Man, how do you get to interview BKV? I would like to know that!
But this was sweet. The interview had answers I read in other interviews, but it was still cool. The preview was cool, too. Love Alphona's work! :D

By the way, I read the preview pages but I won't get the issue till I get back to Oz. Just after christmas.
So guess who shows up in this issue?
Remember Phil Urich? Yeah, he's in here. And so is "Richochet". Oh, the girl "Julie Power" from Power Pack is here too. Damn, she sure grew up! :heybaby:
Also, there's Chris Powell who was "Darkhawk". Haven't heard of him. But anyways, Phil Urich is here with 'Michiko Musashi', leadinga 'supporting group' of teens who used to be heroes. Oh and Chamber is here as well. These are the EXCELSIOR hereos, btw. ;)

Oh what a loop it was!
This is what went down:
The future Gertrude, came back to warn the Runaways, and tells the present Gertrude that she'll be leading the Avengersin about twenty years. As Molly asked if Gertrude was gonna be a 'super-hero', the future Gertrude says that she will be betrayed by someone on the team that she was stupid enought to put in. And that she (the future Gertrude) barely escaped, since the betrayer had slaughtered the Avengers. She said that the betrayer took the files and killed the others. The others being:
Hisako and the X-Men
Daredevil (GASP! What will MWF say?!)
The Fantastic FOURTEEN!
And every hero on the planet.
He became the most powerful man on the planet. Iron Woman sacrafied her life to help. So who is he? He's Victor Mancha. Yes, the very boy who has a super villain dad now, in 2005. This volume of Runaways will outdo the last one, by a longshot.

GAH!
This story is cool. For those who don't know, Hisako is currently a student at Xaviers.
Anyone have a guess on who Victor Mancha's pappa is?
Personally, I'm leaning towards being named for his father Victor von Doom. That is, just a guess.

do you now get where i going with the whole east coast west coast thing?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v647/icycleman/Runaways1.jpgThe Runaways Vol. 2 #1 issue has completely...run out of copies! (Pun intended). The issue has sold out the same day it hit the stores. No one had nothing to re-order from.
"According to co-creator and writer Brian K. Vaughan, Runaways Vol.2 #1 sold out at Marvel on Wednesday, the day it reached stores. This means that Marvel has, despite what Vaughan said was a “pretty generous overprinting” no copies left for retailers to reorder to fill demand.
But, as Vaughan posted – he’s been told that a second printing is coming:
“…despite a pretty generous overprinting by Marvel, the first issue of Runaways apparently completely sold out on the very first day it was released. So while your friendly neighborhood retailer might still have one last copy on her shelf, she normally wouldn't be able to order more for those of you sad sacks who missed out. I say "normally," because Marvel just called to tell me that they're rushing back to press for a second printing, which will have an all-new cover by none other than the Runaways' co-creator, master of fashion Adrian Alphona!
”A lot of people thought we were insane to relaunch our cult hit in this competitive marketplace, so I have to thank all of you who gave our new first issue a shot, and Joe Q. and Dan B. at Marvel for making it possible. It wasn't too long ago that a little book called X-Men got canceled, only to rise phoenix-like from the ashes to become the sales juggernaut it is today. Similarly, Adrian, Craig, Christina, Randy, Jo, Mac, C.B., and I won't stop until our kids control the world!”

Here's my first problem... a lot of these threads are labeled like this one. I'm not looking for a discussion on this issue I'm looking for a General Official Runaways thread. I thought I found it but I have lost it? Or it's gone? I don't know. I think it's easier if we just have a threads that say "Runaways Discussion" or something... so we don't have to merge and close threads and go looking around. Anyone feel me here?
Anyway to what my concern is? Karolina is a lesbian right? She said she's in love with someone and she's having the same "I'm a loner" attitude that Colossus was having. I mean the parallels are uncanny to Colossus. and then at the end of "Good Die Young" she blushes when Nico says she's done with boys... Was she already outed?

I don't believe this has been posted yet. Good job MWOF. On that note though, you can just post them in the Previews thread, in the General Comics Discussion forum IIRC.
Its a funky cover, I liked Excelsior, its got an interesting mix of characters. The plot is being developed rather than just having them show up out of nowhere which I like. I really like how this is all developing.
The preview was awesome. BKV is doing an excellent job with the characters progression. I can't wait to read the whole thing.

The groupp with Chamber, "Excelsior", are old super heroes who basically gave up the gig. Why exactly they're formed, I am not sure. But I do know that they're first job is to hunt down the Runaways.

Who is Victor's father?
He's leaning towards Electro or Magneto in my opinion with what he's show us in powers.
Anyway decent issue. I wasn't terribly impressed by it but it wasn't too bad. Best part of it was the flashback scene.

can anyone give me a little summary about issue 2 please.
I went into my comics shop yesterday and saw Runaways #2 on the rack. Having heard passing comments on this board about how it is good, and then noticing Vaughan was the writer (and having just fallen in love with the UXM Most Dangerous Game arc) I flipped through, liked the art (especially on the cover) and bought #2 and #1.
I have to say, I really, really enjoyed them. Even the older characters who are pathetic losers are written with care and love. I can't stand it when a pre-existing character who, simply because no one has written for him in years, is taken by a writer just so he can kill/maim/screw him to show how tough or cool their character is. Vaughan, despite having written these characters like Darkhawk as people who have lost everything and have realised that they're not special in any meaningful way still gives them distinction of character, backstories, and wonderful moments of story. So kudos to him.
Saying that, I could've sworn Runaways had more issues than just two.
It seems that I was right and must by the first volume next week. As someone who knows nothing about Runaways, it was easy to get into, though it definately *feels* like a sequel, its not hard to read.
I am extremely disappointed that there is a House of M crossover. It would seem that Victorious as Magneto's son would be the tie-in. That said, I hate crossovers.
I buy Runaways (or whatever) and I enjoy Runaways. I don't want, half way through the series, an issue to show up that discusses a story that occurred in another book. It would be like watching an episode of Sopranos that, for some reason, commented on what happened in Sex and the City (both HBO, both NY). It's out of place, and irrelevant. The only reason for it is marketing, and I have not time for that.
I thought with the advent of the Ultimate universe's policies of putting crossovers into stand alone minis would do away with this obvious gimmick, but as Disassembled and Identity Crisis proved, crossovers are staying. Blech.
In any case, really enjoying Runaways. Damn good book.

I agree completely about your view on Crossovers.... but i Have to say I did enjoy Identity Crisis. I wasn't a fan of Disassembled tho. DC Crossovers happen, they are how they keep any sense of Continuity, and it gives their comics a Mythology. Marvel Crossovers get forgotten quickly, the only successful one I can remember liking was Age of Apocalypse.

(took me long enough to find this thread)
i thought that this was a good building up issue, it explained a little bit about what happens in the future and what victors powers are, for those of you haven’t gotten it...
Victor has some sort'a power over metal; he sort'a uses it to fend off the runaways, before Nico KO's him with a kick to the head.
and if i had a scanner i would scan in a pic of the Excelsior at the end. but i don't, but it was a nice a** panel.

That's a nice cover. Thanks nigma. So if he has control over metal, then it's leaning towards Mags as the father a lot. But then he could be jsut some random mutant with any of those villains as a father. I mean look at mags children already. Pietro and Wanda's powers have nothing to do with metal.

I thought Polaris ended up not being Magneto's kid.
I thought Polaris ended up not being Magneto's kid.
Nope. It was confirmed in the "Of Darkest Nights" arc in Uncanny that Polaris is indeed the daughter of Magneto, being the half-sister to Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. She has told it to them, in their face, but Magneto does not know. This was an old idea from a long time ago, that Austen brought back, and made it official.
So now, Magneto has 4 kids, with his first child dead. I still say that he will not ve given any more kids, cuz, come on, how many kids will Mganeo actually have? And for those who think Mag's the father cuz the kid can control metal-just cuz the kid does, doesn't automatically make him Mags kid.

This is off topic but... I always thought one of the best aspects/angles to Magneto's character was the whole relationship with a "flatscan" human, a species he's supposedly hates. I don't know if any of those stories were touched upon in 616 but I'm not a fan of Magneto sleeping around with a bunch of women, I'd rather see him as a one woman guy.
ourchair
04-04-2005, 03:59 PM
I think Victor's powers being "magnetic" in nature links him too closely to Magneto that it's a red herring. Even if Vaughan had chosen to make Victor's father Magneto, he would have chosen a much subtler way of hinting at it.
On the other hand, there is still no proof whether or not Victor's powers are magnetic in nature yet: All we saw was a bunch of bleachers shape themselves into a giant hand. For all we know, he just has control over inorganic matter or he has a specialized form of telekinesis.

Seem that way as it may, it hasn't been the case. I may need to check but I believe that his wife Magda was the mother of The Twins, but Anya, the older daughter had a different mother. I also believe that he had a relationship with Amelia Vought (as did Charles), a relationship with Lorna's mother (at this point), Rogue and no doubt, many more. He's not Wolverine, Gambit or Havok bad but he still gets around. Anyone else has anything to say, start a new thread for it and I'll put this stuff in there. If not, back to Runaways
I don't really like the idea of Victor being Mag's son but its starting to look more and more likely. Doom is still a possibility in my mind though, as is Kingpin.

Great Great issue. The runaways don't take **** from anyone. Darkhawk was insanely cool and just so dark.
I actually found Karolina and Julie talking really funny.
Also, I was a huge Jurassic Park fan and when I first read this title I thought about what kind of Dinosaur Gert's was. I knew it was too big to be a Velociraptor but just figured it was a mistake by the creative teams. Loved how Victor pointed out it to be a Deinonychus. probably my favorite moment.
The last panel... hmmm what do we think now? Not Magneto. Someone rich and within the United States. Not Doom. Someone more or less human. Not Mephisto. I just don't know... If #2 brought us closer to finding out #3 took us a few steps back.
I'm still holdin' on to my thought of Kingpin. I don't think it's Doom, since that's not the way Doom talks, and what's the point of changing how someone speaks just to do what you want? I did love the fight where the Excelsiors fought themselves. That was funny. And when the Runaways left, the little boy in the tin can suit thingy from before was there laying on the floor. That had me LAMO!
Overall, great issue again. 8)

i won't be able to get this till 2morrow, work #$%$@#^%$&%^, but i'm looking forward to it...
It's a terrific comic.
Absolutely enchanting. Not only do we get action, humour, superheroes and superpowers, but we get real character revelations. I already feel like I know these characters after just three issues.
And, my God, do the creative love these characters. Having the owner of a genetically-engineered dinosaur not actually know what kind of dinosaur she has, having two girls tell each other how nice their hair is instead of fighting, Chamber's 'Britishness'... each character, of which there is over a dozen gets a chance to showcase themselves in all their glory. Beautifully succinct and effective.
It's a terrific comic.
As for the father - it doesn't say where he is, and I thought it might be Doom, but I really don't know. Skulls on the throne, the clock, the Christian imagery of his mother... I seriously don't know who the hell it is.

It could just be that he collects antiques...
Maybe a magical villain like Mordo? But yeah, I think the chair and clock are very carefully chosen so we have a hint. Obviously, none of us geeks here know who it is... but.... Clock = Time = Travel = Kang. Case closed.

Maybe a magical villain like Mordo? But yeah, I think the chair and clock are very carefully chosen so we have a hint. Obviously, none of us geeks here know who it is... but.... Clock = Time = Travel = Kang. Case closed. :crazy:I'd be convinced it was Kang, if only he weren't the major villain in two other ongoing 616 story arcs (in Young Avengers and Marvel Knights 4, for those of you not collecting those titles). That just seems like over-kill after several years of relative inactivity in the MU.
Did anybody else think the golden motif of the items was significant?
Is Baron Strucker a possibility? I know he's been considered an 'A-lister', at one point, so there wouldn't be any credibility problem there...
My guess is that Victor's dad-- whoever it is -- will NOT have a connection to the different 'worlds' represented by the Pride/the Runways (i.e. NOT magical, NOT science-based, NOT mutant, NOT an alien, and NOT a time-traveller). Since Alex is not a member of the group at the moment, it would make sense for Victor's dad to be someone crime-related, adding strength to the Kingpin argument. BUT unless Ms. Mancha is hiding something about her past, there would be no reason for Victor to have such powerful abilities, if Fisk was really his father.
(in Young Avengers and Marvel Knights 4, for those of you not collecting those titles).
Actually, that's Kang's son, but that's talk for elsewhere.
I just started reading the first volume and I only just managed to stop myself at #8. I love this book. It's terrific. I recommend it highly (though, maybe just get the trades and don't do what I did - which is get all but three issues and then spend ages looking for them). Not only is it fresh and exciting, but its humble and funny.
One of the funnier scenes being when all the characters decided to choose their superhero codenames.
Actually, one of the funnier scenes is the first page of #1.
But yeah, I'm loving it. Even armed with... certain foreknowledge. I've read vol 2's first three issues so I know the Pride get extinguished in some fashion, and I know Topher and Alex aren't in the second volume... which means Alex is probably the mole?! Thankfully for you guys, I'm too far behind to do a "Alex Wilder Manfiesto".
But yeah, it's a terrifice book and well worth picking up. Let's share the love of Runaways! I know there's a whole bunch of you out there who love it. Post away...

This was a pretty good issue but was more like a filler.
Darkhawk & Company are licking their wounds and we get some interesting character development with Darkhawk. He admits that he's losing control of himself. I wonder just how long these guys will stay in this title. I'm interested. Still no word on the benefactor.
The Runaways are simply back at the tar pits going over every possible super-villain that could be Victor's father. Nothing to it but still good dialogue and pretty cool use of their parents tech.
The very end reveals who the villain is and unless there are any twists....
it's Dr. Doom!!! I don't know if I care that much. Kinda wish it was someone else.

That's why I thought the WHose Victor's Daddy thread should've been kept open. Two explainations...
1. That's not Doom under that mask.
2. The Child isn't Doom's but Doom experimented on him (i.e. Ultiamte Gandalf) and the child is "owned" by Doom.

I don't know about overused because I haven't dabbled much in 616 FF but I thought Vaughan was really going to wow us with who the villain was. Oh, welll...
Runaways is brilliant. I was laughing all throughout this issue. I mean, Darkhawk tries to kill Ricochet, and then he and the Power Pack girl talk about the Lord of the Rings, while Gert comments on how most super villains just committed crimes against fashion.
Hysterical, wonderful work.

well in the Unthinkable Arc Doom gets mystical powers and uses them to try and take down The Fantastic Four and in the end Reed ends up using mystic arts and technology to beat Doom.... Then in the Authoritive Action Arc Doom comes back as like a spirit I suppose and starts to inhabit the Fantastic Fours bodys he ends up in the Things and Reed then has to "kill" the thing. (and you should know by now noone stays dead) so they get the thing back to life and Doom was seemingly destroyed so maybe I have missed and arc where he came back because I haven't collected since then...... so if he has could someone tell me how?

Chase is damn fine too. His laser plan was brilliant.
And Molly is the best Runaway. I love her.

Ultron died in "Disassembled". But then, so did my respect for Bendis' writing ability. It was all bollocks. I'm glad BKV doesn't seem to care, and is using him regardless.
And God, BKV wrote a damn fine Doom. These are the insults he gave in one issue: cow, accursed urchins, prehistoric beast, ignorant whelp, miserable dwarfling, harlot, and hotheaded arrogant young imbecile.
Plus, every other speech bubble is him saying how he will enjoying obliterating and dismembering the group and how unbelivably brilliant he is.

Review shown on Newsarama on the issue:
Runaways #5
From: Marvel
Writer: Brian K. Vaughn
Art: Adrian Alphona and Craig Yeung
Review by Corey Henson
In the latest issue of this excellent series, the Runaways finally confront Victor Mancha’s villainous father, revealed to be one Victor Von Doom, Ph.D (that’s Dr. Doom to you and me). Of course, this being a Brian K. Vaughan comic, there’s a surprise or two in store for our heroes, and this issue delivers a couple of major shocks, including a hell of a cliffhanger that‘s guaranteed to bring readers back for the next issue. And if, for some reason, the last page isn’t enough to get you to plunk down your hard-earned $3 next month to find out what happened, there’s the promise of yet another confrontation with Excelsior, and the impending unmasking of their mysterious benefactor (the signs may all point to former Runaway Alex, but I’m betting BKV has something less obvious in store for the big reveal).
In case you couldn’t tell, I’m totally loving this book. With both Marvel and DC seemingly in the midst of crossover addictions, all I want is a few good superhero comics that I don’t need years of obscure continuity burned into my synapses to understand. Runaways definitely qualifies, thanks to Vaughan’s stellar characterization, snappy sense of humor and uncanny knack for writing irresistible cliffhangers. And when you’ve got one of the best writers in the business bringing his “A” game month in and month out, you need a stellar art team to compliment the story. Penciller Adrian Alphona, inker Craig Yeung, colorist Christina Strain, and cover artist Jo Chen combine like Voltron to create what is arguably Marvel’s best-looking book.
It warmed the cockles of my heart to see Marvel chief Joe Quesada call Runaways a “certifiable hit” in the latest edition of Joe Fridays. Marvel should be commended for their commitment to helping this tremendous series find an audience, even during the times when the sales may not have warranted such love.
No way is Alex coming back. Guy was incenerated. Nothing but dust in the wind.....literally.

What's up with you guys? Am I the only one who goes to the LCS every Wednesday and reads and wants to discuss immediately? I'm a little late today because Bobbo just had surgery and is in the hospital so I spent most of the day there. :(
Anyway, Let's get on with it.
Vaughan is my favorite writer. He rarely disappoints and his creations and spins on most characters are probably the most unique out of any others...
Runaways #6 was awesome.
Victor is a cyborg that is gradually turning human... I thought that was cool.
The kids realize they can't handle a big of a threat like Ultron so they purposely let "Chamber" & Company find them. Darkhawk takes out Ultron and Victor snaps out of it. Action was solid as it always is.
"Chamber" let's the runaways get away again and looks like Vic is added to the roster but will be watched carefully.
Exclesior (however u spell it) are going to keep an eye on California as what I took as a new sub-group of the Avengers.
The secret benefactor is revealed as Rick Jones looking to help kids like him so they won't have the same crazy teenage life that he had. He's being supported by The Avengers.
The big shocker.... Chamber was never a part of the team. This is sad because I liked the character a lot but the reveal made up for it and then some... Alex is still alive and he's working with some new people.... "Long Live The Pride." You don't see their faces but one of them is very large, another has a "Magneto was right" shirt, and the other looks like an girl (probably of oriental origins) Any guesses? Mine - Blob could be the big guy easily, I'm not jumping at the others but I can't wait to see them again.
Awesome conclusion! Love BKV!
Some people got jobs, y'know, so no one is going to run.
Anyways, great issue. Loved it. Rick Jones being the secret guy was cool. Was expecting someone different, but it's all cool. That was one hell of a bang that took out Ultron. Thought it was awesome. And with Alex being alive...WO!
Can't wait to see them! :D

I'm ecstatic happy Victor is now on the team. I love it when an enjoyable character actually sticks around. :D
I hope we see Excelsior soon, they're loads of fun, and yes, Chamber wasn't really Chamber, but I'm looking forward to the pay-off! And it may not be Alex, but considering the 4 mmorg gamers, it most likely is him and his friends.

The big guy in the new pride looks like the Victor's friend he was talking to earlier in the book about fan boy stuff (maybe issue 1), which makes me think that they'll try slowly draw Vic into this new pride.

Maybe it didn't. Maybe Alex was alive or brought himself back the entire time. And Nico still has one saving life spell left... this would be interesting for a future arc.
Also we started seeing a lot of new heroes (Runaways, Arana, Machine Teen) Marvel Next ya know? Anybody got any theories on how Alex made it out. after re-reading i noticed how Big V writes, something along the lines of 'im a game master, i've pulling the stings since day 1' and when his dad tries to take the hit he takes it instead. but.....did he really take the hit?
heres the things Alex was the only one that was reading the book of the pride. with the ring and decoding it. and didn't the book of the pride also tell of the past, present and future? so, if it did tell the future then that's what he was reading and knew what would happen and how to solve it. and if he could get a call out to the crocked cop (clock and dagger), then why not his net 'buddies' and tell them what was going down. and those that is how he survived, and the other parents might have made it out alive as well. why did he relase Nico, he knew she would wake up the others and do what she did, he knew it all along.
any comments?

I'm sure since there's a great deal of emphasis on Alex's strategic intelligence that he saved himself somehow. The reason Nico's spell didn't work was because he wasn't dead. How Alex did it is in the hands of Vaughn but I can't wait to read it. I don't want to see the rest of the Pride revived though.

Swarm was cool as seen in the preview.
We then go to the runaways spending some cash and time together.
Chase and Gert are going bargain shopping and Chase is threatened by Vic and Gert's feeling's for him. Gert assures Chase she only likes him and they make out in a changing room... very cool.
Vic and Molly are food shopping and Vic wants to know if the rest of the team is scared he's going to go "hay-wire" again. Molly just wants Cereal.
Karolina and Nico are walking through a park where they're checking out the stars. Karolina makes a move and Nico's taken back. Personally, I really don't think Nico should go for it. We already know she's into guys... Alex and the Vampire. But Karolina's whining about how she doesn't belong is inturrupted when a Skrull (?) comes to Earth and announces that he's Karolina's fiancee.
Never a fan of Runaways Art in the first place so the change is welcomed but it is a bit cartoony.

Nope. But I'm not really too upset about that. Vaughan's probably going to hit us with those storylines when we're not expecting it. Actually when the Skrull ship lands Nico asks if it's one of Excelsior's ships.

have they said how long V. 2 is slated for? like V. 1 was 18 issues (i think). at least that way we know who long we have to wait. guess i'll find out the rest when i pick it this weekend
Alrighty, im taking this one by the numbers...
1.) It's a Super Skrull. Regular Skrulls dont have powers like the one that showed up. The regulars only shapeshift.
2.) Alphona's art has ALWAYS been awesome. Can't really see why people wouldn't be into it. It's great. Makes the characters look more interesting. The art I don't like.
3.) We JUST got something about Alex. You guys really think we would get something the VERY NEXT ISSUE? Come on! Gotta live up the suspense. Nothing will be dropped ALL the time. The person that was secretly with Emma, nothing was mentioned on that someone EVERY issue or anything.
4.) This volume is going to keep on going, non-stop. Full ride all the way!
Overall, a cool issue. Liked having them relax for a bit from action, before coming right back to action. A little break always does good once in a while.

Guess what I picked up today? Runaways #7!
It was good. I'm looking forward to my copy of the V4 Digest shipping so I can get more of Victor's backstory, but this issue made me smile more than most of "Season 1" did. And it was The Swarm man! Nazi radioactive bug man! He's one of my favorite marvel villians!
...dude, we need Ultimate Swarm!
This issue was great fun! :D

I have to say, although Alphonas art is great great great, Miyazawa is one fill in artist who I'm always happy to see. Very nice and simple, but energetic too. In particular, the attempted kiss scene looked great, Karolina looked really sweet and clumsy.
And Ice, who says that was Alex last issue? Personally I don't think it is. Although it would be great to see him as a recurring 'enemy', I really doubt Vaughan would bring him back, at least so early.
By the way, if you guys are interested, if you head over to Marvel.com before Sep 8th you can submit a question to Mr Vaughan himself. I just did, so why don't you? Eh?

But seriously, think about it. If anyone wonders how he came back, one possiblity is Nico's spell. Say it actually worked, but just he never showed up wherever she thought he would. Or the other guys at that room could have brought him back. We may not have a face, but the body matches.
I'm not the only one who thinks its him. Others know what I'm "on".

Which is exactly why it may not be him. Think about it, the reveal is likely to be a huge thing, would Vaughan really make such a small matter of it by only showing a black body? It's obvious that everyone would jump to the conclusion of Alex at the sight of a black person working with the Pride, so why didn't Vaughan just show his face too? Because it likely isn't him, and Vaughan is purposefully leading us the wrong way.
Of course, I'm not saying you're wrong, and I admit it could very well be him, I just can't see how you can be so sure.

Exactly. Look, Vaughan knew that almost everyone reading that comic would IMMEDIATELY jump to the conclusion that it was Alex. Now, if it really was Alex, why not just reveal it there? Otherwise the real reveal in however many issues would be completely anti climactic because everyone knew it was him anyway. As an exercise in dramatic writing, it doesn't make sense. Unless.... it's a red herring.

Definitely believe that it's Alex. But I'm willing to bet there's a possibility of a physical difference in him. It would be really cool to see something that makes him actually look evil... like some kind of scar. Or really just the fact that he showed some skin and the "Long Live the Pride" statement was really all everyone needed to be like that's just so ****ing cool. If he showed the face it would have lost something in the revealation. The delivery was very genius.

Okay, raise your hands, True Believers, if you've either read or watched A Clockwork Orange -- the Burgess novel, or the Kubrick film, doesn't matter.
If you love it as much as I do, then surely, you would have noticed the sly bit of foreshadowing in Runaways #6 -- when "Chamber" is waiting outside the building where the fight against "Doom" and Ultron is taking place, he says something about standing aside and letting "his droogs" do all the work, a reference to the fake 'Nadsat' slang from A Clockwork Orange. So, what is the name of the protagonist from the story again? And more importantly, which character was established in Runaways Vol. 1 as being a fan of twisted British pop culture, like The Prisoner? ;)
Please PLEASE tell me I'm not reading too much into this little detail! :D

No she left with the Skrull. I duno the details apparently if she didn't millions would die. But the semi-super skrull wasn't such a bad guy and wanted to make Karolina happy. He turns into a female for her.
I was genuinely surprised to see Karolina leave. I'm glad she did. Not because I disliked her, I liked her, but because it's actually a change.
And I'm glad Vik is still on the team.

For some reason, that line stuck with me, when I read the solicitations for #8, about Karolina needing to make the 'ultimate sacrifice' for the group (or soemthing along those lines). First thing that came to mind: she'll be off to find her home-planet.
Incidentally, her sudden departure really makes me feel like I'm reading classic New Mutants issues (circa the Demon Bear stuff), considering the racial and gender diversity of the kids, and how fragile their memebership of the group is.

I didn't read the solits, and didn't remember the line. That's great though. I didn't see it coming.
And, you're right MWOF, if Alex is back, she'll definately be back - but the Runaways don't know it, and it's nice to have the roster shaken up in a way that doesn't involve a big bad raping someone.
That said - I had this terrible feeling that after she left, we get an 'epilogue' and we discover Xavin was lying and she's being taken back as a trophy/ slave/ criminal because she's one of the only remaining members of her race and she's gonna be executed... (not that she wouldn't somehow, y'know... runaway...)

Well, I got True Believers (V4 Digest) today. I'll probably throw my thoughs up later after I've read it.
And XTF (I love calling you that ), in the last two issues we had the team take down The Swarm (One of my favorite marvel villians) and then go shopping. At the end of 7 we found out that Karolina was set up in an arranged marriage to a super-skrull oin training. In 8 she learned that her race and the skrulls have been locked in a pretty nasty war since her parents sold out the planets location. After a bit of soul searching she decided to go with the skrull in an attempt to bring peace to the two nations.

Okay, I finally got all four digests. Great series. Love all the kids. Did anyone else catch that Karolina's parents were making deals with a Skrull in Season 1 and then in Season 2 she leaves with one?
Anyway, going with the 'Alex's new Pride are his MMORPG friends' means that one of them is missing. In the start of Season 1, it showed in the MMORPG, Captain America, Invisible Woman, Spider-Man, Daredevil and the Hulk. As Alex came back to his hideout, there were only 3 other people. Which means that one of the MMORPG guys is not there, or isn't part of their group.

I'm dead set against this explanation -- if one of them is really a mutant supremacist (the guy with the "Magneto Was Right" t-shirt), wouldn't it make sense that he'd play as a mutant character (Wolvie is the most obvious choice) in the MMORPG?
But perhaps he was just using the t-shirt out of irony, hehehe? Kids these days!

I'd rather he'd not "disregard" it and it's totally out of character for BKV to do so. The simple solution would be since Molly enjoys her powers so much, she'd get bummed after losing them. Nico uses the staff of One and gets Molly's powers back.

It doesn't have to be bending reality... Wanda could've said that and mutants just lost their powers. Nico in turn doesn't reverse reality back but simply grants Molly her powers back.

Cloak is being accused of beating the tar out of Dagger, allegedly on camera. After being punched in the head by Luke Cage he remembers "the young ones" and telemeports to LA.
Meanwhile, Gert Chase Molly and Victor are playing Monopoly, Victor's the racecar because he likes palindromes, and Chase wants to be the "shotglass" because he's an idiot. Chase asks Gert what she sees in him and she pretty much dodges the question. Laters, Chase finds Nico clearing out Karolina's stuff. She tells him it didn't hurt this badly when she found out her 'rents\Alex were evil, and wonders why. Chase is about to say something, when the intruder alarm goes off, and Cloak appears in the 'main room'. He tells the gang something's up, and also mentions he still feels the evil presence he mentioned waaaaay back last time he met our fun lovin' heros. Explaining the situaion (as well as Molly calling Victor a "guest star, and not even a special one" best line in the book) our Runaways decide to go help cloak in NY. "FIELD TRIP!!!" Looks like it's gonna be a hell of an issue.

Cloak's been framed and The New Avengers think he beat Dazzler down. After running from Cap in the hospital. Spider-Woman confronts him. He says so it's true the Avengers are back. I forget how he takes care of her but he lands and is face to face with Luke Cage. "Et tu Luke" he says. Good line. Luke punches him in the head, Cloak says "The children" and disappears.
The runaways are at their base playing monopoly. Chase refers to the Thimble as a shot glass. Chase leaves the table and Victor asks Gert what she sees in him.
Chase finds Nico in Karolina's room clearing her stuff out. Nico's bummed, Chase comforts/flirts with her. He's about to tell him about something bad he's done in the past when they hear a scream and Chase says it's probably Victor going evil on them.
They get downstairs and Molly and Victor are arguing about the "free parking" rule in the game.
Cloak appears and says he remembers them because Luke punched him. (Lame) They ask how he found them and he says one of their evil imprints they left behind he followed and used as a tracking device. They said it was probably Alex's. He says it seems like it is still there and that's how he found them.
Cloak tells them what's up with Dagger and how he's being hunter and asks for their help. They agree and Cloak takes them up in his cloak to provide transportation. Molly yells "Field Trip!"
5/5
Speculation on Cloak's finding them. I think a few things Alex is in the hideout somewhere sneaking around hidden places. Or with Chase semi-flirting with Nico... he might've kidnapped Chase somewhere and is posing as him. I like the latter better but I love Chase and hope he's around somewhere.
If it's not Alex I hope Chase gets with Nico, it'd be so cool and I'd take her over Gert whose never consistently drawn. She's either really pudgey or somewhat goodlooking.
Great issue with a lame excuse for Cloak to remember but still sets the stage for what's gonna be a great arc.

Assuming that ALL of the Minoru's magic follows the same rules as Nico's Staff, then I guess Alex could only use the Concealing Glamour once.
Well, the most obvious answer is that Chase's dark secret is that he was the traitor who left the note from Vol. 1 No. 6, and there had been two of them loyal to the Pride (not necessarily working together). After all, he was present inside Cloak -- ooh kinky! -- the first time around, when he sensed the evil presence. But somehow I doubt it's that simple.

Gert is easily the most attractive character in any mainstream comic i've read, (underage status notwithstanding, hehehe ;))
I could easily write a long-*** post justifying this. Question is, would anybody else care?

this i would love to hear.
My brain is a little zonked right now, so i'll use the laundry-list approach, for now.
Gert, how do I crush on thee? Let me count the ways...
* her keen, understated fashion sense (sure, Nico gets points for making her own clothes DIY stylee, but if they end up looking like Hot Topic discount-bin cast-offs anyway, what's the ****ing point?)
* her realistic body image (probably resembles the average female Runaways reader more than any other character on the team; a little pudgy, but so what? more to love!)
* her sarcastic wit and casual eye-rolling disaffectedness
* her way of being assertive without being over-bearing
* her apparent bedroom talents; two words: "power vaccum" ;)

The question is... whose "The Kid". I asked Vaughan if we'd get any new members to the roster and he replied with "Stay Tuned" which actually means yes because otherwise he would've said something like "Geez we just added Victor" or something clever.
So Wolverine says there's a kid who can track them who do you think it is? And a reminder that Wolverine and Molly are gonna be in the same issue.

Most likely Kiden, the girl with the time-stopping powers. X-23 would definitely have told Wolvie about them. The NYX kids are teenage runaways in New York, are they not? It's a perfect fit.
I think the "he" is a deliberate throw-off -- Iron Man and Wolvie are referring to two different kids.
My second guess? Franklin Richards. Why else would they be so hesitant to call in "the kid", if it's not somebody extremely powerful.

Incidentally, it's pretty safe to assume this arc takes place before "Decimation", yes?

the kid is mentioned as a 'him', so that rules out all the NYX kiddies, sorry compound
