Re: DreamMOVIE #12: The Spielberg/Lucas hit machine!

I've been waiting so long to put this up.

    Star Wars: Episodes IV-VI
    REDUX

Long ago in a galaxy far, far away ....

    Dun! Duh-duh-duh, duh-duh-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-duh-dun-nuh!

May 25, 1977. George Lucas releases his astonishing vision onto the world. The film, "Star Wars," becomes a worldwide pop culture phenomenon, producing two sequels and, eventually, three prequels. Today, Star Wars is one of the most successful franchises of all time.

    Luke Skywalker - James McAvoy
Alright, McAvoy is probably not who you would expect to fill the shoes of Mark Hamill. However, I wanted to make this film not just an homage to the original trilogy, but also different, and I think a rising star like James McAvoy has the stones to pull it off.
    Han Solo - James Purefoy
I know I just cast Purefoy in a previous role, but he's who I had in mind (at first I thought Christian Bale, but I don't really think he fits). I had some drawings of an updated Han Solo, of how I think he should look if they ever did do a remake, and I tried to capture the "space cowboy" mood that Solo gives off.
Princess Leia Organa - Mary Elizabeth Winstead
I wasn't really sure on this one .... I had Shannyn Sossamon in mind for the role, but I thought Mary Elizabeth would work because I think she could pass as James McAvoy's fraternal twin sister. Plus I just want to see her in a golden bikini.
Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader - ???? / James Earl Jones (voice)
It doesn't really matter who you've got underneath the mask unless you've got JEJ as the voice. I don't care that he's already played him before. ACCEPT NO SUBSTITUTES!
Obi Wan "Ben" Kenobi - Bernard Hill
I think Hill was in LotR. Anyways, it's pretty hard to find a replacement for Sir Alec Guinness.
    Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious - ????
    Ian McDiarmid OWNS this role.
    Mara Jade - Natalia Tena
Natalia Tena (Nymphadora Tonks from Harry Potter). Or, if you want a more well-known actress, Sienna Miller.
    Lando Calrissian - Chiwetel Ejiofor
    Yeah.
    Owen Lars - Ray Winstone
    Wedge Antilles - Ian Hart
Characters like C-3PO (Anthony Daniels), R2-D2, Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew), Yoda (Frank Oz), and Jabba Desilijic "the Hutt" Tiure will be played by either their respective voice actors and/or puppet handlers, or in the case of Jabba the Hutt, whose voice actor died, will have new voice actors. Eg, Jabba could be voiced by Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime).

Thanks. Those were the two I wasn't even sure on....

Oh, and I just looked back and realized that I can only remake one movie....so in that case, just pretend that mine's a sequel-slash-spinoff-slash-remake, called Blue Harvest. Muahahaha.

Also, I had an idea for an updated version of Boba Fett's armor. It was very Master Chief-esque.

Re: DreamMOVIE #12: The Spielberg/Lucas hit machine!

I'm making another cast for the hell of it.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Temple of Doom was always my favorite (yeah, I liked it more than Raiders).

    Indiana Jones - James Purefoy
It makes sense that Harrison Ford's role in this movie is played by the same actor as Harrison Ford's role in my Star Wars remake.
Wilhelmina "Willie" Scott - Naomi Watts
The beauty from Peter Jackson's King Kong could pull this off with ease.
    Dong Wang/Short Round - Langsta
No one can replace Jonathan Ke Quan. Except for me. Yes, I'm Asian, and yes, I look just like Short Round. Also, I've given Short Round a real name, "Dong Wang." Dong is one of the most common Chinese given names. His name is a reference to another Jonathan Ke Quan character - Richard "Data" Wang, from the cult classic, the Goonies (I tried to find a common Chinese name that starts with "D").
    Sallah - Naveen Andrews
Since Sallah is such a big part of the Indy universe, I figured I'd just include him in a small cameo role. He's fairly new to show business, but Andrews has already proven himself as a brilliant actor as Sayid in Lost and Abby in Death Proof.
Now I present to you the Chinese gangstas of Club Obi-Wan!

Lao Che - Chow Yun Fat
The Fat Man could pull this off naturally. He's got that intuitive badass-ness of a real Triad.

    Kao Kan - Hiroyuki Sanada
Sanada is actually Japanese, but most Americans won't know the difference.
Chen - Some Random Chinese Guy
Lao Che's other son shall be played by some random Chinese guy. Or, just have the now-grown-up Jonathan Ke Quan come in for a cameo as Chen! It's genius!
    Ling - Zhang Ziyi
I'm just adding in another chick to the movie just to make things interesting, to make a love triangle between Indy, Willie, and Ling. Ling will be Lao Che's daughter who wants revenge, and follows Indy as a spy. You could also go with Michelle Yeoh or Maggie Q. Maybe even just write the character of Chen out, so that Kao Kan has a son and a daughter. Maybe even add in a little backstory to give Ling a reason to betray her father, since he loved her brother more (she would end up being the older sister who was almost abandoned because her father wanted a son instead of a daughter .... he ends up eventually getting a son anyway, but his son is treated with more respect than Ling) .... This will add some more characterization to the story. Ling is sent in as a mole, she seduces Indy and pretends to be his ally, she eventually confesses and decides to befriend Indy anyway ....
And now, for the main attraction, Thuggee leader Mola Ram!

Mola Ram - Raoul Trujillo or Irfan Khan
Trujillo played the bad guy in Apocalypto. Although he's Latino, he looks just like Mola Ram.
Irfan Khan, on the other hand, is a brilliant-looking actor who can be seen in the recently released indie film The Darjeeling Limited. He has an insane look in his eye that makes him look crazy.
    Prince - Waris Ahluwalia
Waris has made appearances in a few Wes Anderson films.
    Princess - Amara Karan
Karan is a young English actress of Sri Lankan descent. She will be playing the role of the young princess.
    Assistant - Nitin Ganatra
Ganatra played Prince Pondicherry in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
    Assistant #2 - Raz Degan
Degan is actually an Israeli actor (and you'd think it'd be easy to find an actor from India what with all the people there an Bollywood and stuff). He played Darius in Oliver Stone's Alexander.

Is that what you look like right now?!

Also: Your choices for luke, Leia, and Han are too old...

Luke and Leia = Late teens/early twenties
Han = mid twenties at the oldest...

I'll post the rest of the cast later.
First of all... i think you have a serious man-crush on Purefoy.

Second of all, if you think your Indy cast is going to be up for judging, you're mistaken. You will be DQ'd. State now which cast you want JUDGED, or BOTH will be DQ'd. The rules clearly state to cast ONE and ONLY ONE movie. I'm giving you a break letting you give your take on another.

No, that's a really old picture. But I haven't really changed much. Also, sorry, I guess I didn't realize how young Luke and Leia are....But I think James McAvoy and Mary Elizabeth Winstead could pull off early 20s. And I think James Purefoy is young enough to play mid-20s. But I didn't think much about that when I was casting....

Thanks/Sorry. I guess....I guess the Indiana Jones one is the one I'll use.

k good. i think thats your better cast right now anyways. Also, make sure to cast the rest of the people in the movie (the Indian prince and his assistant/minister guy) if you wanted to

Let it be known to all other dreamcasters that anyone who wants to use someone in Langsta's Star Wars cast may do so.

I haven't seen Temple of Doom in a while so the Indian prince and his assistant might be a little....crappy.

Fair enough....it's funny, I've been working on that Star Wars cast for weeks and I just decided to do the Indiana Jones one right on the spot, and the latter ends up being the one I choose....funny how things work out like that.

EDIT: I've edited my Indiana Jones post with the Indian cast members.

That cast is now in the public domain. So....cast her as Leia. Talk to Lucas about the remakes. Make it happen, man. Make it happen.

Re: DreamMOVIE #12: The Spielberg/Lucas hit machine!

I came this close to doing a full Drew Strewzan mock-up poster for the film. I just don’t have the time.

The plot concerns the mythical Tower of Babel, where humanity, with a unified language, attempts to build a tower to heaven, only to be slapped down by God – the tower was destroyed, and their language confused and scattered throughout the world. In the plot, Indiana Jones must race against villains to uncover the mysteries and secret powers of the Tower of Babel before they can reconstruct it for their own nefarious purposes!

    [IMGL]http://img122.imageshack.us/img122/4883/nathanfillionxv5.jpg[/IMGL]
    Nathan Fillion is Indiana Jones
This is where my cast started. I remember watching SERENITY and there’s a scene in a bar where River is kicking everyone’s ***. Mal (Nathan Fillion) rushes to this weird revolving tombola thing which has everyone’s guns in it – everyone has to check their gun into this thing before they’re allowed in the bar. So he’s up there, revolving the thing around looking for the draw with his gun in it, then realises he needs the keycard to open it, and starts fumbling around, patting himself down looking for it – and as he is, River is nearly starting to kill everyone. It’s very well done, but as I saw it I just sat back and this wave of clarity hit me: Nathan Fillion is this generation’s Harrison Ford. It fills me with dismay he’s yet to reach that success. So whenever there’s talk of recasting Indiana Jones – I have to say, it’s got to be Nathan Fillion. He’s distinctive enough to not just be a clone, but wonderfully entertaining nonetheless. But – Nathan Fillion is a cult icon, not a well-known one really. So I took the Superman approach – surround him with STARS. Christopher Reeve and Brandon Routh are both surrounded by stars in their respective Superman films, and so I take this approach to this cast.
    [IMGL]http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/6240/johnnydepptf2.jpg[/IMGL]
    Johnny Depp is Sallah
I found this insanely hard. John Rhys-Davies is so wonderful as Sallah. One thing I’ve always felt, and something Stephen Spielberg has felt, is that you just want to hug John Rhys-Davies. He’s so lovable. I tried, very hard, to think of someone who would be lovable – but none were good enough. They were too much like I’m trying to recapture Rhys-Davies. So I thought about it more and I think the appeal, the huggable appeal, also plays into a paternal nature, Sallah is overbearing in a good way, he makes you feel younger, you let your guard down and innocence in. And the last time I did that was PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN. Johnny Depp made me feel like a 6-year old in that film, and I loved every minute. I can imagine Johnny Depp doing the fantastic “Run” scene with the newspaper. He’d be comical, he’d be entertaining, and he’d have no problem playing second fiddle to Nathan Fillion. Originally, Sparrow was supposed to be supporting Orlando Bloom – so Depp doesn’t have to be the main guy in all his films.
    [IMGL]http://img122.imageshack.us/img122/4026/williamhmacyir1.jpg[/IMGL]
William H Macy is Dr Marcus Brody
Again, I need a star, and I need someone to play the doting mentor who isn’t actually that good at anything. Who can be a comic foil, yet a knowledgeable advisor and protector. Damn if that isn’t William H Macy; the man who can play the man in charge of anything yet turn out to be completely inept at everything. MYSTERY MEN, FARGO – the guy’s brilliant. Give him a tweed jacket and British accent and it’s done.
    [IMGl]http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/6297/tomsellecklt8.jpg[/IMGl]
Tom Selleck is Professor Henry Jones
This is a small cameo role; originally I wanted Tom Selleck to be the villain, but I just did that for my GIJOE dreamcast, plus I think I have a better one (see below). Then, in a moment of coolosity, Tom Selleck as Indy's dad. If you know anything about the genesis of the Indiana Jones character you'll know why this choice has me dancing around a table. Hee hee! What would be cool is that Tom Selleck's Henry Jones would be a lot less harsh than the Connery's which would alter that dynamic and be more appropriate since in a way, emotionally, this would take place after THE LAST CRUSADE (if not chronologically).
    [IMGL]http://img122.imageshack.us/img122/1528/ziyizhangsq0.jpg[/IMGL]
    Ziyi Zhang is Diaspora Song
With the main bunch done, we get to ALL-NEW CHARACTERS! I’m treating this revamp like CASINO ROYALE – make the next film in the series, but just reset continuity. CASINO ROYALE could be the last Pierce Brosnan film, but it’s a brand new Bond’s first film. The plot, the settings, the story – any Bond at any time could’ve done it. But it also reboots the series. This, to me, is what this film would be like. So it’s not a remake, just a restart. In this, I decided that the girl who Indiana takes halfway round the world with him is first Chinese, an homage to Short Round, and very different from the three women of the first three films. However, Diaspora Song can’t speak English. At all. And she’s actually a much, much, better fighter than Indiana Jones. I’d play up the fact that this is the 1930s – no one knows anything about China or the Orient, and her martial arts would totally bamboozle Jones. Not only that, but they can’t communicate. Yet – Indiana still does the knight in shining armour, and they DO get it on. The amusing thing is that I feel Diaspora Song finds him completely uncouth and actually rather annoying to begin with, but grows to care for him. Plus, at the end, when Babel is restored, the unified language kicks in and for the first time in the entire film, they can communicate and understand each other. All they do is say each other's name - and passionately kiss. They don't say another word (until the Babel effect is destroyed). It would be an awesome scene.
    [IMGL]http://img108.imageshack.us/img108/4131/gabrielbyrnepy7.jpg[/IMGL]
    Gabriel Byrne is Agent Solomon
In all the films, there’s some shady government agent who brings Jones the case, adds the backdrop of rumblings of war against the Nazis and so forth – this is what Agent Solomon does. I just imagine Fillion proclaiming, “It belongs in a museum!” and Byrne responding, “It belongs to the United Nations.” (Though I can’t remember if the UN existed in the 30s…) Agent Solomon isn’t a huge part, but he has to sell the idea of multiple, larger forces at work behind the scenes, the whole wartime era, pretty much on his own. He has to sell the gravity of the entire plot – if the bad guys win, so does Hitler. And he has to do that in pretty much a single scene. Gabriel Byrne has that gravity, that authority, and so much more.
    [IMGL]http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/1983/brucecampbelldf4.jpg[/IMGL]
Bruce Campbell is Professor Ulysses Cliffhanger
This is Indiana’s new archaeological nemesis. Like Belloq, Indiana once again has a rival in his field – a smarter guy who can speak more languages and kick Indy’s *** at his own game. That, is Professor Ulysses Cliffhanger, author of the best-selling pulp adventure novels, “Cliffhanger Capers!” Where Belloq was Indy’s Nazi mirror, Ulysses is his professional one – where Belloq was working for evil forces but had respect for the profession, Cliffhanger works for the money and fame. He only cares about himself. And unlike Belloq, Ulysses’ real talent is his incredible skill with weapons. There would be a big fist fight between the two towards the end of the film. To set up how tough Ulysses is, after Diaspora beats up Indy, around the 70 minute mark, Ulysses would kick her ***. That way, when he came to face Indy, Indy would really be the underdog. Also, Cliffhanger just gets under Indy's skin. He's the reason people think of him as a grave robber, and Cliffhanger can never remember Indy's name. I'd love a scene where the villains ask Cliffhanger to identify Indy and he says, "I think his name was... Montana... Smith." But the thing that really gets Indy? Ulysses keeps everything he finds. His mansion is a treasure trove. And all those wonderful things belong in a museum! And he’s extremely famous. Every time someone meets Indiana Jones and they find out he’s an archaeologist, they go, “You mean like Professor Ulysses Cliffhanger? He’s amazing!” and Indy replies, “That’s not even his real name!” I like the idea that instead of “It belongs in a museum” he keeps pointing out how fake Ulysses is (“He’s not even a Professor!”) I like that Indy’s actually jealous of him. As for Ulysses death – he falls off a cliff. Plus – they put a statue up in his honour.

The comical take on the scene where, for the first time, Diaspora and Indy can understand each other; they kiss and Diaspora moans, "Oh... Ulysses..."
    [IMGL]http://img77.imageshack.us/img77/8307/denzelwashingtongm2.jpg[/IMGL]
Denzel Washington is Big Band Bryce
This I feel, is the Lao Che of the movie. Big Band Bryce is named so for his love of Big Band Jazz which was a popular music style in the 30s. The opening of the movie is Indiana Jones meeting with this gangster for some reason involving archaeology – I like the idea that Big Band Bryce has somehow forced Indiana Jones into breaking into Al Capone’s vault for him and stealing what’s inside (they tried to get the great Ulysses Cliffhanger, but he would keep the money for himself). The basic purpose to this guy is to be a villain in the opening of the film, a powerful villain that Indy utterly defeats with grace and style. Like the opening to RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, this entire sequence is to make you LOVE Indy. Just love him to bits. And I think Denzel Washington as the villain would really help sell it. Also, it’s possible Big Band Bryce could return later in the film as a hired assassin or port of call.
    [IMGL]http://img77.imageshack.us/img77/708/ewanmcgregoryx2.jpg[/IMGL]
    Ewan McGregor is Balthasar Untergehen
Every Indy needs a Nazi. And ours is Ewan McGregor. Imagine him with a big handlebar moustache, being all smiley and outgoing. Instead of the slimey or professional Nazi, Balthasar is the romantic, imperialistic type of Nazi. He’s a Nazi because that happens to just be the flag. He’s much more a WWI type of German soldier. I can’t get enough of the idea of McGregor playing a Nazi villain to Indiana Jones. It would just be so entertaining. Balthasar, to me, loves his assignment – he loves scouring the world looking for things. He wanted to be an archaeologist, but his real skills, sadly, lay in his ability to operate weaponry for the Kaiser. In a strange twist, Balthasar, I feel, is the only villain Jones could ‘buy off’ or rather, convince to not give the secrets to Hitler. Part of me thinks though, the “Good Nazi” might be too clichéd, and instead, just let McGregor have fun as a villainous Nazi that’s more interested in someone who died 1000 years ago rather than someone he just shot in the face 5 seconds ago. Yeah, that’s better.

    Michael Douglas is Alexander Midas
The Big Bad. Alexander Midas is the richest man who ever lived – he funded the Nazi party and helped Germany out of its hyperinflation. The Depression began the day he went missing in the Sahara desert and ended the day he was found. And he wants the Tower to Babel (something about money as a universal language, I'm sure - "money talks"). Michael Douglas would be so good as this villain; I love the idea he’d be at odds with Balthasar in that Balthasar sees this assignment as a chance to experience the art of the ancients, and Midas is only interested in results. He has no love for anyone’s life but his own, and I love the idea of a scene where Indiana Jones has just been noticed by the operation for the first time and is proving to be a nuisance, and Midas offers him $10 million to go away – and everyone is just like… “Yeah, I’d take that.” Indy doesn’t. So Midas offers it to anyone who’ll get rid of Indy. And Sallah steps up… (and they fake the whole thing, but are found out before they can keep the cash). Midas, of course, gets properly, and utterly killed. I think he falls off the tower. Or the tower falls on top of him.
I chose “Resurrection of Babel” because I wanted not only a cool sounding name with mythical Judeo-Christian overtones that would resonate with “The Last Crusade” but also because I wanted a reverse to “The Last Crusade” which is a title that’s very ‘final’ sounding (hence why it’s the third and last film – until the new one) and since this is going to be a reboot with a new cast, I wanted a feel of starting again – so “Resurrection”.

This is probably the best Dreamcast I’ve ever done. I’m really happy with it.
