This is an amazing graphic novel, one of TenNapel's best, with excellent artwork and strong, rich themes. The subject matter is a little "out there," but TenNapel's humor helps to carry an very workable plot.

This book is amazing! An entirely self-contained story of space eels, demon cats, symbiotic arms, a giant bug, the Shroud of Turin, and a government researcher. Indiana Jones wishes it was this good. Buy this book! Seriously buy 2 copies and give one to a friend who enjoys epic tales of sci-fi awesomeness!!!!!!!!!

Wildly imaginative and great fun. TenNapel explores theology, science, and morality in fantastical and yet believable ways. When I try to explain the plot and characters people shake their heads but TenNapel delivers it in a way that resonates in our universe. You know you have met each of the great variety of characters who have a part in the story, and if you strive to develop a moral imagination you know that such monsters threaten. There is great beauty and sweetness as well without cheap sentimentality. The antithesis between good and evil is real and though it is jumbled in the chest of Dr. Ong I began rooting for him. As the Christian world-view emerges you may realize how relevant it has always been. "If it is not eternal, " said C.S. Lewis, "it is eternally out-of-date." Thank Goodness for a writer who's not afraid to use his childlike imagination to address the realities of the adult world.
An Amazing Sci-Fi Adventure September 11, 2007

A few friends told me about this book while we were at a comic book convention and I decided to give it a chance. I knew that TenNapel created Earthworm Jim, so I figured it would be pretty neat based on that.
I was totally blown away.
The story and the art are amazing and fantastic. The crazy/absurd storyline is one you'll never forget and it will grab onto you and never let go. Highly recommended. The mix of serious storytelling and humor is very enjoyable and the story is very original.
Yes, there are a few Christan themes and references, but it doesn't take away from the story at all, it certainly adds to it and blends in nicely with the rest of the adventure.
You can't really take something with giant space eels too seriously anyway ;)

I recently picked up this book and was immediately blown away. A long time fan of Earthworm Jim, The Neverhood and all manner of comic books, this was actually my first time reading one of Doug Tennapel's graphic novels. The art is beyond gorgeous and the storyline is quirky, engaging and evocative. I would compare it perhaps to Blankets and the X-Files if ever the show was turned into a graphic novel by Master Shake of the Aqua Teens. Truly a worthy read.
