Hello,
I just stumbled my way across this forum, and what do you know, one of my favorite topics ! (btw, Hey Random. )
About this debate: Someone on another forum said it best, "Peter's heart is with MJ, but his head is with Kitty."
Outwardly, to Peter and everyone else, Kitty makes perfect sense. She is super-powered, so he doesn't have to worry about her. But I think Peter is going to realize that playing it safe with a substitute is not better than the real thing. MJ has been prone to bouts of immaturity, sure, but to be fair so has Peter. He told her in "Cats and Kings" that he would never cheat on her, yet ran off to see the Black Cat, as soon as MJ was unavailable to him. They both have lots of growing up to do. I think for the short term, Kitty may be a decent diversion, but she should never be mistaken for a substitute for MJ. Personally, I find Kitty annoying though, and the sooner she goes byebye, the better.
My vote is for MJ.

hey i say that spider-woman.....i'm kiding. that's a disgusting thought. maybe bendis should introduce a new character. HMM, who wants some new villians? or how about peter dates some girl that turns out to be a super villian??

No, thank you. The entire reason I like the MJ/Peter relationship is because there's no "hey, we both live in this superpowered world" deal between them. It's the reason I said Kitty was a bad idea to get attached too to begin with.

I don't think it would happen..even though he is a teenager..he is pretty big on the morals ( he tries to be ) think of how upset he got about "working" for the Kingpin, and he wanted to do the right thing. I don't see him being interested in a bad girl, or it would never last ( like the 616 Black Cat ) Hmmm...I don't really have strong feeling about MJ having powers or not. I would like to see her be able to defend herself, or at least outwit the villians ( I have faith she could easily ) but Peter dating a normal girl has always served to underscore what a normal guy he is fundamentally. Under the mask.

all right i'll agree with you. mj does make the most sense. i mean, she's been a staple to the bolin arcs. ti give her powers would all but take away the sense of urgency and danger that comes with the osborns.

Peter loves MJ and doesen't love Kitty. It really just doesen't get any more obvious than that in my mind.

The MJ/Kitty controversy blows my mind

To me, this issue has already been resolved via Bendis.

1) Peter does not answer if he loves Kitty or not.

2) Peter broke up with Mary Jane BECAUSE he loves her.

3) Peter doesen't feel like Kitty understands him.

So, where does the "Kitty is a possibility" arguement get any credibility? It's nice that Bendis has infused the story with a bunch of drama to get things going and keep the MJ/Peter relationship fresh and interesting, but if anybody thinks this thing is ANYTHING but a temporary stir-up, yall are crazy.

I like you.
Actually, to just correct you, Peter did not answer when Kitty accused him of loving MJ. She never asked him if he loved her. ( Kitty ) Though it's obvious if Peter loves MJ, he won't love Kitty too.
That look on Peter's face said more than a thousand words though. And he never denied it. I can't imagine the amount of love you'd have to have for someone to walk away for their safety. Though part of me worries that MJ may still die, with Peter, or not.

I'd personally like to see MJ turn a little bit into the independant wild woman she was in 616 for a spell as a way to deal with her feelings for Peter. The next time Pete and MJ get together, it should be for keeps, so I say let things keep simmering for a while.

I would not be surprised in the least if they decide to do this with Mj. For some reason, Marvel and a good many fans like to keep the angst in the Peter and Mj relationship, figuring that if they are togrther too soon it will be boring. I think it would be quite interesting if they tried to actually keep them together throughout.

I wouldn't say "wild woman" it's not really USM MJ's style ( she tried it in Irresponsible ) but independant women yes. Let Peter chase her. And make sure he really wants her. However, seeing as how Peter is 16, if they get together now, she might be in for "616 Gwen treatment", in that Gwen was killed off because Gerry Conway didn't know how to write their relationship. ( heading for marriage ) That's what I fear. However, I have faith Bendis can make it work. ( I want to see Peter dump Kitty, it'd be best for both of them )

Kitty, no question about it. Frankly, the MJ-Peter relationship is about 40 years old now. It's just a tad bit played out and boring by now.

The Peter-Kitty relationship is fresh (which, to me, is exactly what the Ultimate universe needs to be about, fresh ideas that can't really work with 40 years of back history, not just recycling stories and relationships from the 616 universe), it makes perfect sense, and it just provides for more interesting stories. I mean, how many times can "villain X has escaped, and is kidnapping MJ, and only Spiderman can stop him/her, oh noes!11!11" be told? Because that's really the only MJ story out there, at least it's the only one I've ever seen.

And, to be honest, the relationship just makes sense. MJ needs to be protected. Kitty can protect herself just fine. MJ has never really been much of a social outcast, her character was introduced as a member of the "in-crowd". Kitty is the definition of "outcast", and ergo can probably relate more to Peter. Kitty is just able to relate to Peter in ways that MJ can't, and she's able to date Peter Parker without Spider-man messing things up.

And I really don't think the "He loves MJ, he's only with Kitty because he needs stress relief and doesn't wanna worry" argument has any real merit. There's nothing in the books that I've read that supports this, at all. The only way to really see it like this is to just want the "traditional" Peter/MJ thing back so badly that you begin twisting what you read to fit that. Does Peter love Kitty right now, or vice versa? No, probably not, but they're extremely fond of each other, and just like a real relationship, the love will develop from that, it isn't (and shouldn't be) an instant thing. Does Peter love MJ because he talks to her? No, she's still his friend, and one of the few people he can confide in about BOTH aspects of his life, and she doesn't have to hitch a ride on a jet to see him. It's as simple as that. He's getting over MJ, and he's falling in love with Kitty.

So yeah, keep the Kitty thing around. To be honest, I wouldn't mind too much if they just killed MJ off, or at least kept them apart for a very, very, very long time.
