Detective Comics 821-? discussion (Dini/Williams) [spoilers]

At least Seven Soldiers #1 will be the best thing I have ever read.
 
I found the mystery in this issue to be a little confusing, but that's a good thing. Having the Riddler and Batman work together was genius. The scene where they're both in the Batmobile had me cracking up.

"Nice car. First time I've been inside it conscious."

"Don't touch anything."

The art was decent, but I miss Williams.:(
 
Just read the issue today. Awesome issue and VAST improvement on the art. I much prefer this artist over Williams. Everything was enjoyable. I liked how Dini had written the issue, especially on the part where it looked for a sec that Riddler was the actual killer, just wanting some press time.

Looking forward to the Ivy issue.

Oh please. Just because I prefer the current artist over Williams doesn't mean I have to "go back to the 90's". That's just an old song and dance from you now. Williams was okay, but his faces was just terrible changing from panel to panel. This artist was better and cripser with his pencils and looked way better than the work Williams did in the last issue.

Wow... I think I've said "go back to the 90's" like twice on this board. And you're still the only one who has seen "William's changing faces", so I still think you're crazy.

I love JH Williams III's art, and I can't wait until he comes back. This guy (I can't even remember his name without looking) is good, but he's no Williams.

Exactly. Williams isn't just an artist - he's a creationist. The stuff he's done on Promethea... and the little we've seen on Seven Soldiers... it's inspiring.
 
Wow. The new issue was leagues above the last and the last one was good. I loved the Riddler and the story. Dini can go all out without worrying about what's proper for tv. This was one of the best single issues I ever read.
 
Just read #826, with Dini back on board. I didn't even bother reading #825 - maybe some other time.

I don't read a lot of DC so my exposure to Joker is pretty limited. I always liked him in the movie but in the comics....Other then seeing him in Arkham Asylum (which I am only a quarter of the way through) I just haven't read much of him. I thought he was goofier.

But running over people and making Robin watch - whoa.

Great story. This is a series of one-shots with all of Batman's major villains?
 
I didn't even notice that someone else wrote #825 - that's how good it was.

I still love this series, and even without Williams III, it's still far better than Batman is.

Are you serious? About anything? 825 was awfully written and awfully paced. And the art was pretty crappy too.

And, well.... Detective and Batman are actually pretty even, in my eyes.
 
Huh, I liked it. I thought the writing and the art were quite good. I liked the villain they brought back, even though I can't remember his name...

Dr. Phosphorous. My problem was, there wasn't much detective workr. Plus, the dialogue was just crap.

Also, Batman beat the dude with baking soda. BAKING SODA! They didn't need Batman for that job. They could have just brought in Mr. Wizard.
