Homosexuality in Comics

I'm starting to think all homosexuality sucks, it's confusing me... no, not confused like that. There's just so much going on concerning homosexuality, it's too complicated! Why can't gay just be gay and why can't girls like me??

Why is the sky blue?

i never came in here, as i figured it would spiral out of control, but apparently E handled that.

I just want to say, I am extremely impressed and happily moved by the accepting viewpoints taken by the members of our board in this thread. Many great ideas of how to handle this, as well.

This will eventually be museum'd as the greatest serious thread of this site. Mark my words.

But yeah. End the prejudice and stereotype (just read everyone else's posts. They say it better than I ever could).

Who are you again?

I just noticed this thread. I skimmed through the preceding pages, and generally agree with a lot of what has been said. That said, I wholly agree that decisions to out a character should be character based rather than on "Oooh, look, it's a gay character!" premises.

I have previously stated my opinion, which most of you probably don't agree with, that I thought it was unfortunate that Colossus(Ultimate) was outed. Before, everyone(the readers at least) knew he was gay, but it was never official. And during that time he was a badass. The scene where he beat the snot out of Magneto for hurting Wolverine is one of my favorites. It affirmed that he was my favorite X-Men.

After issue #65, his character changed. Now it was "Oh, Kirk doesn't like me, what do I do?" like a whiny ***** which certainly didn't fit the character. And just when he was beginning to show promise of returning to his previous personality, he left. Don't get me wrong, I really have enjoyed Kirkman's run on UXM, but his handling of Colossus was poor, in my opinion.

Some of you probably do not agree with me, and I don't fault you for that, but I have the bad feeling that the fact that Colossus is openly gay will probably become more of a center of how people view the character in the real world and comics world.

I don't think that its necessarily that he was outed that created the problem, the problem is that Kirkman wrote him back into the same stereotype Homosexual characters have had forever... To be in a relationship, it is somehow better to make the character more effeminate... I'm happy that the comic is in a place where they could still

But I hope that Colossus hasn't reached the end of his self-actualization... I want him to miss the action a bit... I want something to push him to unleash the violence within himself further than its gone before... Perhaps something happens to Northstar (although I'd rather not have ANOTHER Northstar kick the bucket)...

I am tired and my logickometer is a little skewed. But essentially, I agree.

(also: its easy to put the gay characters aside and not deal with them... why couldnt JP just move into the mansion? Although I suspect that the Hellfire club's involvement in Emma Frost's school will somehow lead to the schools merging in the near future)
