What are your opinions on the Brie Larson controversy? Currently it looks like the majority aren't on her side, reasonably.

I'm not liking where she's going, especially if she's supposed to be the face of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I don't like Captain Marvel (the movie or the character; Civil War 2) but Brie Larson seems okay. She made some statements, it's whatever. There are a lot of sexist people in the world but she's not one of them. She fanned the flames at a divisive time which might not have been the best choice, but I'm sure she's a lovely person and she doesn't deserve hate at all.

I don't mind actors speaking about politics at this stage in my life and I think that Brie had good intentions. I think it's because she was calling out specific groups that probably had me a bit upset with her, but I have more well-defined political beliefs now and understand why she felt motivated to call out these things. I wouldn't say I'd make the same statements, the nature of them were questionable, but she's obviously a good person for finding issues with certain things.

Neither. The whole ageist, racist and sexist thing. She said she doesn't want "40 year old white dudes" opinions about a Wrinkle in Time because it isn't made for them. She also doesn't want to be interviewed by white men and she spoke about the supposed patriarchy. I just want to get a discussion going. No hate on this thread, though. That would be nice.

She mainly just said she wanted to interviewed by more minorities. I don't care either way. It seems to me that publications and programs would need to be the ones to hire more minorities in the first place rather than some actress demanding "send in more brown people". Or better yet, she could have arranged for such interviews and just done them. But virtue signaling and "making a stand" makes for more headlines.

She's pretty cringey to listen to though. Honestly seems like the studio put her up to that and now she's just awkwardly defending herself.

I'm glad I missed it. I hope this doesn't over shadow the movie. I know it's making rotten tomatoes to modify ratings right now...but why can't they just be an actor.

I agree. The camps both arguing about how they should either watch the movie to stick it to the patriarchy or complaining about it because of SJWs just feels like a repeat of the Ghostbusters 2016 situation.

I think everyone's blowing what she's saying WAY out of proportion. Basically she just wishes for more diversity in interviewers and such. She doesn't want white people to hate Wrinkle in Time (I'm white and I loved it. Didn't read the book), just that if white dudes didn't like it, that's OK, you weren't the primary audience. Yeah, not racism, it's just an excuse for her taste in film, i presume. I've never seen A Wrinkle in Time. It might be alright, i don't know. All i know is Brie Larson has discouraged me from seeing it.

I wouldn't say Brie Larson is straight up racist, but if i were to say "I don't care what black people have to say about The Lord of the Rings. It wasn't made for them" that sounds much worse.

Captain Marvel, forgetting Brie Larson, looks passable at best (trailers, reviews). I hope for better than the best.
