Hello sweeties. Welcome to what is intended to be a nice big Doctor Who thread. I'm an Italian guy who can't enjoy all the contents of Doctor Who, for one reason or another, which is why I'd like to have everyone's collaboration. This is not meant to be simply a timeline, or simply an order... Or at least, not mine. I want it to be a little bit of everyone (with all the credits thrown in).

This first post focuses on the correct order, for me (and not only), to enjoy Doctor Who (as a little guide).

In the second I will insert all my and your notes, Timelines (a little more narrative than technical) of more specific things (River, the earth/galaxy, Jack Harkness etc.), headcanons that can be useful for improving the experience, the various points where you can start and end Doctor Who (across all eras)

First of all... I've seen "Tales of the TARDIS" (the new scenes at least), and it's ambiguous. I think I'll place it all after Liberation of the Daleks, but I hope the specials will give an explanation as to how and why this Memory TARDIS exists. Do you agree?

Tales is probably going to somehow tie in to the events of the specials but if by new numbering you mean the rumour of the next season going back to Season One it's presumably a result of the disney deal only giving + the new content because starting with series 14 with no backlog available doenst look as good

I agree, but at this point the "all or none" rule applies.
Every time a Showrunner came along there was a soft-reboot, and if it had applied to everyone (RTD's S1 to 4, Moffat S1 to 6, Chibnall's S1 to 3), it would have made more sense.

When the soft-reboot happened in 2005 there was a real motivation. Time had passed and the show needed to be different, so RTD got rid of the things that didn't work about Classic Who, giving a "new" background to the Doctor. This new reboot begins where the specials end which begins where PoTD ends.

Speaking of this, I would say at this point that the 60th specials can be considered the ending of Doctor Who (2005), and not the beginning of Doctor Who (2023), given the presence of certain characters and certain narrative ideas

I've placed them around the timeline on my order. Some of them tie in with a lot of the expanded media. The Time Meddler one with Vicki and Steven i've placed just after the Savages alongside the Storyteller short. It's set before an audio where 1 reunites with Steven set during the Tenth Planet and the cameo from the first doctor has to be after the Savages at least so that fits. Even though they use newer console parts and props it feels more timeless rather than it HAS to be happening in the present (to me at least). They say that every Doctor and Companion pass through here at some point so it's probably always been happening.

The Mind Robber one i've placed after the Two Doctors (and before the World Shapers comic that happens a little while after) which is where it's set for Jamie.

The Vengeance on Varos one i've placed twice because I kind of like the idea that it's the Curator not Six to explain the outfit but it doesn't really matter. The main placement is that it goes before 'The Eternal Mystery' short which is sometime after Trial of a Time Lord.

The rest all tie in with a little arc after Power of the Doctor/Liberation of the Daleks. Starting with 'the Passenger' short where Tegan and Nyssa aren't together but Tegan has met 13. Then the Earthshock one where Tegan mentions just seeing Nyssa so either they've found eachother by this point or she means the Passenger. Then 'the Curse of Fenric' where Ace last saw the Doctor as a hologram (in Power of the Doctor) and she continues travelling with an older 7. I've also moved 'The Promise' to go here because it honestly doesn't really fit anywhere without contradicting something. and then the audio story with 10, K9 and Ace which leads into Farewell Sarah Jane. By this point Tegan and Nyssa have 100% found eachother again and Ace has two K9's. This is also the last time the SJA kids see eachother for awhile. Then 'Defenders of the Earth' where Cliff has recently passed as well as Sarah Jane. Then 'the Three Doctors' where Cliff has passed but not as recent as 'Defenders of Earth' Clyde is in LA filming currently, hasn’t seen Rani since ‘Farewell’ and leaves to go and find her. Then I have the new 3rd Doctor audios where 3 reunites with Jo in the present and they travel together again. Then the first season of 'Rani Takes on the World' where it's revealed that Clyde met someone else in LA but still comes to see Rani, its the first time they've seen each other since 'Farewell'. the last story has him telling Rani that they need eachother and is building up to him confessing his feelings. Then Redacted Season 2 which is set after the first series of 'Rani' and leads directly into the Star Beast.

It might be fun to rewatch through all of the post-power of the doctor stories in order and see if they feel like a larger narrative. About the series renumbering, its really frustrating, I get classic who and new who having a reset. Narratively it's been awhile for the Doctor and there's also a whole new format for the show. Here that doesn't seem to be the case. The 60th really doesn't look like a jumping on point. I wonder if everyone will still call it Series 14 OR if we reject it all and just continue the classic numbering system so it's Season 40 now. It might save the confusion having three different season/series 1's lol.

Thanks so much for the info. I still haven't updated the section in which I explain my relationship (and that of the order, currently) with the EU. But having the full picture is always better so I thank you.

I love how you put all the Tales EPs in the order and I also think that the broader narrative is a possibility (also given RTD's statement saying that it was inspired by the Trailers). I'll reflect a little more before inserting them, but this comes closest to my idea (also because before Tales I had no idea where to insert The Promise). The only thing I didn't understand was the placement of Farewell, it seemed to me that Clyde hadn't seen Rani for a long time

It would make sense to me if they retconned Doctor Who 11 - 13 to be a spin off series (kind of like the audios of 8 and War, during the Time War). Because, like the Time War, they are 3 seasons (more special), which change the status quo of the series and seem perfect for a reboot. It's hard for me to explain, but think of it this way

Doctor Who (2005 - 2017)

Doctor Who: The Timless Children (a random title)

Doctor Who 60th specials (which like the film, almost serves as a transition)
Doctor Who (2023/4 -)

Essentially Chibnall's Doctor Who almost feels like RTD's Time War (narratively speaking). That is, an event that upsets the doctor's background and the tradition of the series, giving mystery to his origins again

What do you think about the Davros topic?

I and many others expressed our dissent to RTD and he liked almost every comment. Either he's listening to us, or he's making us happy (I respect that man, but that's probably the case). In any case it's not a problem for now, since Devies has already said that there will be a big break from DALEK.

Anyway. Donna says she has had amnesia for 15 years, this would mean the special is set in 2024, as she traveled with the Doctor in 2009. Or they could be approximate, so it remains 2023. I currently have no year placements in this thread, so it's not an immediate prob lem.

Well... Everyone says Rose is 15 (I don't remember if it was said in the episode). The only way this could work is for "The Star Beast" to be set in 2025, with Donna roughly approximating the years she had amnesia.
