Marvels omnibus editions seem like a great way to easily collect the series in its entirety BUT are they really great value in comparison to collecting volumes and which do you think are worth the money?

I don't think they are a good value. For example, the Ultimates Omnibus was $99.99 cover price, and it collected Ultimates & Ultimates 2 (inc. annuals). You could get each in a softcover collection for (I think) $29.99 at the time, so you were effectively paying $30 extra for hard covers. I don't recall the omnibus having any extras that the softcovers didn't have.

Same deal with the Secret Wars Omnibus. $100 for the 12-issue series three cross-over issues that don't really matter, and a couple of extras (496 pages). Whereas the paperback was about $35 for just the series (376 pages).

I've heard they recoloured it and the pages are bigger though. And they look nice on the shelf. But still, not worth it, in my mind. I prefer the Ultimate Collection paperbacks that put two or three tpbs together a few years after they originally came out. I have the Frank Miller Daredevil ultimate collection and the JMS Spider-Man ultimate collection (minus the last volume because I swore to never purchase a collection with One More Day in it), the Grant Morrison New X-Men ultimate collection, and the Joss Whedon Astonishing X-Men ultimate collection. They look nice on the shelf too.

Yeah, that's completely ridiculous.

I do have that though. But I certainly didn't pay $99 for it.

If it is recolored it's not anything special that sticks out in my mind. I'm pretty sure it's still in those awful, garish recolor colors that Marvel loves so much.

The only time recoloring has ever fixed anything was the Absolute Watchmen collection. A lot of people complained about that but I loved it; it looks way better than the usual TPB coloring.

My LCS had it for $75 for a long time. I'm friends with the guy who used to be the manager there and I told him it was ridiculous every time I went in.

I'm an omnibus whore. If I want it I usually wait for an omnibus or Ultimate Collection.

Even though they cost more I prefer Omnibus collections.

I have sold off a few of mine though. I've got a few that I thought my son might like but when it became clear that he wasn't too interested in them I didn't feel the need to keep them around.

I've only gotten two omnibus', All Star Superman and Top 10 by Alan Moore.

I love them both.

If you love them then why don't you maarrry them!?!

EDIT: I mean, why don't you enter a committed monogamous relationship with them, buy a house and accidentally have a baby with them!?!

Technically those aren't Omnibuses, they are Absolutes. At least the All Star Superman one is.

Fun fact - the plural of omnibus is either omnibi or omnibuses. Either is correct.

Is that the same for syllabus?

EDIT: never mind, I looked up the spelling of 'syllabus' and found the answer. Yes, both 'syllabuses' and 'syllabi' is correct.
