Haven't got to it yet. It is indeed in the comic continuity, with the original Watchmen comic series being treated as canonical, likely existing in the same world as Before Watchmen, the prequel series, and Doomsday Clock, the DC Universe crossover, too.

Episode 2 was much better. Can't wait for the rest of the season.
