Issue-Spider-Man: The Other, What if Spider-man had rejected the Spider?

Writer-Peter David

Pencils-Khoi Pham

Colorist-Marte Garcia

Synopsis-Celebrated author Peter David takes a stab at an alternate ending to Spider-Man;The Other.
The story begins with the Watcher explaining how Peter Parker in the "616" universe (the Watcher actually uses this term) had to make a choice to either accept or deny the spider side of his powers. Hibernating inside of a cocoon, he entered a "dreamscape" where he met his spider spirit guide. Unlike in "616"
where he accepted his spider side, in this issue, Peter fights and eventually kills his spider spirit guide, thus denying his "inner" spider.
Because he destroyed his guide, Peter had no way to escape his "dreamscape". He stayed trapped inside his cocoon, where, he might stay permenently. Unlucky for him, the symbiote, which currently resides on Mac Gargan who is in prison, senses Peter trapped in the cocoon, and can tell he is vulnerable. He leaves Gargan immediately and escapes from the prison. The symbiote eventually finds Peter's cocoon under the Brooklyn Bridge and enters it. Since Peter is trapped in his "dreamscape" with no way to escape, he is forced to endure The symbiotes mental and physical assaults, until at the end, his psyche is destoyed. What emerges from the cocoon is a new creature, called Poison. Poison then goes to Avenger's tower to find Mj, and asks that she leave with him to mate and make others like him. Mj, realizing that Poison is not truly Peter denies him and Luke and Wolverine burst in to resue her. Poison is able to defeat the two heroes and asks Mj to again leave with him. Mj states that she would rather die, and Poison tells her that it doesn't matter if she is dead or not, he can make it work anyway. The have a staredown, and eventually Poison leaves. There seemed to be enough of Peter left in Poison to force poison to leave MJ be. The story ends with Poison digging up Gwen Stacy's grave, putting the corpse inside a cocoon, and waiting for his new bride to emerge.
Review- This is a dark tale that Peter David spins expertly. Even though I was dissatisfied with The:Other, I really enjoyed this tale.
Art- 3.5/5
Story- 4/5
Colors- 3/5

Sounds like ****. After reading your review I'm turned off to the idea even more than before.

It's the better of the worse. The only thing nice about this what if? is the narration of Uatu, he talks like someone from marvel knows every story they write about spider-man sucks.

It's better and this actually sounds good. Like a 3/5 good.

Peter dies , rejects the offer of the great spider , than the symbiote dumps Gargan and joins Parker's body. Symbiote Parker returns to the Avengers Tower , kicks wolverine's *** , talks to MJ , when MJ rejects him he runs away!!!

Is that how symbiote behaves?? aww she doesn't wnat me, i better leave silently. And then a red symbiote looking arm gets out of the cocoon under the bridge.I would prefer the normal The Other story.
My comments go with the spoilers

Well, from what was posted in the first post, I agree that it's not because it was rejected.

There seemed to be enough of Peter left in Poison to force poison to leave MJ be.

It's pretty much the rejection that forces him to leave MJ be , because a peter with the symbiote , who is more peter than symbiote , could kill people or simply hurt the ones around him , and someone like "the other" in this story , who is more symbiote than peter wouldn't even hesitate to do anything it wants to do.

That's where this story gets crappy.because the dude who is more symbiote than peter , simply levaes MJ alone , its definetly not a real reason but what caused the action is the rejection.I hope I can make my point

No one said you didn't make a point. I'm just saying I agree with what was posted before, about there being enough of Peter to control and leave MJ alone. I mean, I'm not saying you're wrong, just that I believe something else that makes what happen have some sense to it.

I was originally goning to give it the same score, but I enjoyed this single issue much more than the other that I may have been a little overexuberant. Having reread this a couple of days later I would probably downgrade the story score to 3.5

I thought that scene made the story more tragic.

Perdonaly i liked it better than the actual The other arc. Especialy the ending where he used the Carnage symbiote to bring back Gwen....wich perhaps what was left of peter just wanted Gwen insted of MJ(like Uatu sigested.)

I'm kinda shocked they called a symbiote "Poison." That was a name I always wanted to use for a green symbiote... but I thought it was too akin to "Venom."

Anyway, the issue sounds great. I hate that Spidey "killed" his spirit guide, but it all sounds very cool.
