I'm on an Alan Moore kick, and was thinking about checking out his Supreme stories.

How are they? I have never read a Supreme story for obvious reasons.

Supreme was very good. Everything Moore did for Liefeld was very good. He was building a nice little universe. A precursor to his ABC work.

I think Youngblood was fantastic, but that was sadly only two or three issues.

You asked in a thread TGO started asking about whether Supreme and A Small Killing was good.

Bass said he wouldn't recommend it, and you said that was good enough for you.

I wouldn't recommend it either. It's a Superman ripoff, that Moore tries to inject silver age nostalgia in. It works, but it has Liefield art, and is not up to usual Moore standards.

Try Promethea or League of Extraordinary Gentlemen instead.

It bored me, to be honest...

I couldn't get through very much before dropping it altogether.

Tom Strong is a better attempt at reaching silver and golden age nostalgia, in an intelligent, better written, more relevant way.

A friend of mine gave me 12 issues worth before he had to leave for Scotland last September. I wouldn't diss it that strongly, but yeah I agree... I wouldn't recommend it.

Its full of clever ideas but its mostly just Moore having giddy fun with Superman, only he's not Superman. I think that post-modern aspect is its strong suit, with how Moore starts out his earlier issues addressing the concept of continuity and its existential weight on a superhero, but then it kind of stumbles around badly afterwards.

I'll have to re-read it because I feel like I didn't appreciate it in ideal reading conditions (on a hot scorching summer afternoon in a bus with no airconditioning), just to get a better feel for the strong points and the weak points.

OK, thanks. I didn't remember Bass un-recommending it to me.

I won't bother with it.
