Welp, Didio officially announced recently that yes, with the re-edit of Infinite Crisis in the Hardcover, the Multiverse has returned. Aside from bowing to the old school Silver Age fans, do you think this is a cool idea, or another example of DC shooting itself in the foot?

Wait.... What???

What exactly did Didio say?

In several recent interviews, Newsarama and DC Nation, as well as the preface to the IC HC. Plus, several re-edits in the IC HC has expressed this, as well as the return of the Monitors. Apparently, the post-52 Crisis (Summer '08 ) will return the Multiverse to reality.

Its already returned in the Flash. The speed force is a barrier between the worlds, and Wally West, Max Mercury, Barry Allen are alive and well on the new Earth 2, as seen in Justice League of America #0

I don't like it cause it makes Crisis on Infinte Earths seem more pointless

I feel like CoIE has given us plenty of good years. DC can't spend the rest of their career living in the shadow of the first Crisis.

It could be kind of cool as long as it doesn't get twisted out of control. I'll have to see how it plays out, but I'm interested.

CoIE centralized the Chaos of the thousands of contradictory stories and timelines by erasing all of them and building one new universe out of the multiverse.

Zero Hour: A Crisis in Time polished that singular history and charted time from its beginning to the end.

Infinite Crisis and 52 further defined the backstories of many of these characters, and reintroduced the Multiverse as a controlled concept that included, but is not limited to including, the Wildstorm multiverse, and the Bleed as being the primary means of traversing those worlds.

I suspect The Speed Force is or is related to The Bleed.

This is good. I didn't like how the DCU almost made sense.

Morons.

We're clearly back in the 1990s when Marvel and DC feel the need to "De-Ultimatize" their sensibilities to the point of making old convoluted continuity necessary to the enjoyment of stories again.

Crap

Both big companies are producing crap right now

RIGHT ON!

Seriously? You're serious?

Because I really like what DC's been doing in the past year or so. I think they're establishing a damn fine direction for their universe.

I've got no problem with a new multiverse forming as long as there's a blueprint. If there's a set criteria of rules that define the multiverse, then I say have at it.

Houde's just angry because he doesn't like the silver age nostalgia stuff that's going on.

I'm cool with the Multiverse returning. They've basically had one anyway so they might as well admit it.

This is totally true.

I love DC and I always will. As big into Marvel as I am now and as much as I enjoy the Ultimate Universe, I'm a DC boy and I will be forever.

I fell out of DC for a couple years though, but got back in right after Identity Crisis and am almost as excited about the DCU now as I was when I first discovered it fifteen years ago. Bringing back the multiverse just makes it bigger and more exciting to me.

True.

I'm not so much against the concept of a multiverse in any comicsverse, DC or otherwise, but I'm just too cynical to accept the idea being nothing more than continuous bumble**** shenanigans from the companies.

I hate the Multiverse concept from a storytelling stand point. I think its stupid that, in DC for example, they have stories in multiple different universes. I like the Multiverse concept when stories visit a different universe, like in UFF, but only as a kind of "What if?".

But without a Multiverse they wouldn't be able to visit another Universe...

No, you misunderstood me. I'm fine with the Multiverse, so long as there's a "prime" universe where all of the stories take place, but other universes exist for the prime universe characters to visit.

Like how in UFF we see the Zombieverse, the N-Zone and Thanos' universe, but there aren't whole comic lines dedicated to them.

I agree with this too. I would hate if, like, Superman took place on one Earth, Birds of Prey took place on another and, like, Blue Beetle took place on another yet.

All the ongoings should be on one Earth, with the others as just nice places to visit now and then.

Or do a DC version of Exiles. That would be cool.
