The name pretty much says it all. What do you do, where do you learn it from, how long have you been doing it, what's the difference between martial arts you might have learned, who's your favorite martial artist, etc. etc.

Introductory topic: If you met the Karate Kid, what methods would you use to make him cry like a little *****?

Wade has very prestigious martial arts training. Like srrsly. I spent 6 years learning Wing Tsun, 2 on Muay Thai and I've been studying Yuchia Gung Fu for almost 3 years now. Wing Tsun is a northern Chinese style which focuses on swift punches, throws and hand techniques. Muay Thai is essentially just Thai boxing; lots of knees and elbows. Very brutal and efficient...if you want to learn bone-breaking, deadly martial arts, Muay Thai is the way to go. Yuchia Gung Fu is a southern, Chinese Shaolin style, and it would be too difficult for me to explain within this post.

I do a lot of Jeet Kune Do on the side, though have never had any formal instruction. Recently, I've begun going to a studio on the weekends which teaches Keysi, a newer JKD-derived system, which I find fascinating. I'll admit, that the main reason that I was attracted to it is because it was used in Batman Begins.

Favorite Martial arts films? Anything by Bruce Lee. All of his movies are brilliant. I also really enjoy a lot of Jet Li's movies. Ong Bak, starring Tony Jaa, is one of my favorite martial arts films of all time. I'm really into old, crappy kung fu movies, which I really just watch for fun.

If I met the karate kid in real life, I'd start by peeling off all of his fingernails and toenails. One by one. I'd then sew every orphis on his body shut with a dull needle. I'd kick in both his knees, and then start stabbing every non-vital part of his body with a box cutter. This would be followed by me sitting back with a glass of wine, watching him bleed out.

I have spent decades of my life learning to copy every move from every 2-D fighter ever created. So I'm pretty much unbeatable, unless my opponent moves in 3-D that is. But what are the odds of that?

I'm pretty sure I could kick Ralph Macchio's ***. Either one of them.

I would like to learn martial arts...At some point....When I have the time...

I've studied fencing most of my life, I have several medals from competitions in high school. I will occasionally suit up at the ren fair and be the resident pirate chick.

Eastern martial arts, I've been studying Wah Lum off and on for the last 15 years.

Meh. I did learn some Judo, did about 5 - 6 years of it. Did very little Karate Shotokan too. I wanted to learn TaeKwonDo but I don't have the time to.

Isn't that Pray mantis? Can you describe the system a little? It's not one that I'm familiar with.

Yes it's Mantis, it's a Northern Style, it was developed to deal with horse based (Mongol) attacks. The style involves a bit of leaping and acrobatic skill as well as a reliance on pinpoint pressure point strikes, sticky hands defense and kicks.

It's a relatively newer style (in the grand scheme of kung fu as a whole).

I took Shotokan Karate from the ages of 6 to 13. I loved it for the first few years but after that it became my biggest burden. No kid should be forced to dread Saturday mornings(and during the week, irregularly), but that was me for about 4 years.

I can't say it was very beneficial from a fighting point of view, but it turned my reflexes way up. I have, by a wide margin, the best reflexes of anyone I know, and won the only "fight" I've been in high school because of them(******* threw a coffee cup at me, which I smacked right back all over his shirt and nailed him in the face while he was looking down.... it happened so fast the other people at our table thought I'd started it for a bit).

I guess it was worth it in a way. I've also been keen to remember one particularly good high kick, which I consider my secret weapon.

I've taken 1 semester of Akido for one of my PE credits in college, I'm also a yellow belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (which was my second PE credit in college). Oh, I've also watched Ong-Bak several times.

I am Asian but don't know any martial arts. :(
 You're just saying that. I'm on to you.

"o, im teh asian but i dont no marshull artz i could not hert anybody if i tried"

When I'm not looking - BAM - you chop my head off.

Sneaky Asians.

Trix are for kids.
*commits seppuku*
You better!
Oh wait, I'm Chinese-Filipino, not Japanese. Damn it even *I* think all Asians look alike.
See how easy it is?

I've taken about two years of Tae Kwon Do before releazing I havent learn **** from it. Seriously, two years and I never even learned how to block? I've been doing fencing for about 5 years now though with college I havent done it for a while and me and my group of friends are the slackers of the school (think of us as the cool seniors who don work). I've always like the martial arts but never really had the energy to go out and really do it

You fools are not going to turn TwilightEL's awesome Marital arts thread into stupid rambling about Ninjas. If you don't practice, or have an interest in martial arts, stay out.
