This just annoyed me. It seems like everything that happens in the Ultimate Universe doesn't matter.

How many times does Reed have to get a "Don't do things on your own because you'll just put lives in danger" speech. I'm so sick of it. Carol Danvers stop talking down to him because you know despite him being a child he has saved the world a handful of times and made significant scientific breakthroughs.

The rest of the story was boring... and so was most of the science for once.

However, the fact that they said this was what Gah Lak Tus' heralds must've been modeled after intrigued me and my imagination immediately hoped for a Ultimate Silver Surfer vs. Gah Lak Tus Mini depicting this epic battle.

Now I wonder who his master is this time around? Unless it is Pyscho Man?

*Sigh*

I was pretty underwhelmed with it. For some reason the art seemed off in this issue.

Carol Danvers needs to go and die.

I didn't bother picking this up, so what exactly happened? If you don't mind that is.

Interesting that Carol Danvers is in there. If it is her, it is nice to know that Carey is having the FF cross over with other UM characters.

Hmpf. I actually liked this issue, at least more than Part 1 of the arc. Art still seemed good, and story was engaging and entertaining throughout.

A solid 4/5 for me.

I don't know....the F4 are an odd beast sometimes.

For such a prominent team in the Marvel universe....their rogues gallery aside from Doom leave a lot to be desired. I really have a hard time believing that a man who can control magic clay poses a real threat to one of the smartest men in the universe. Same with Diablo. Or Annihilus.

And the same problem is being carried over to the UFF series. And I'm also starting to have a problem with Carey.

Carey is doing great with introducing new ideas and concepts to old stories and characters. I mean it really is genius. His explanation on how the Surfer could be bigger than the planet in one page....and then the same size as the rest of them in the next page. Genius. Really.

Where he falters is with the execution of these ideas. It's like he's got some great ideas and plans....but can't properly convey these ideas to match their awesomeness. I really think he should consider getting a co-writer like Brubaker and Fraction do on Iron Fist. Because right now he's failing at reallt making this book the premiere UU book like it has been.

But on the other side of that critique...Ferry's art is perfect for F4. Everything he does is just so beautiful and fluid. My only wish was that there was a different colorist. A lot of the colors seem so dull and grainy against Ferry's art. I'd like for something more vibrant and colorful like Immonen's work of UFF and UXM.

With all that said.....this issue is 3/5.

It's not bad.....but it could be so much more better.

I actually prefer not. From what I read of the lastest issue, it's not much better. I think Carey is doing good as is.

Iron Fist rules!

I dunno, I think VVD makes a good point at least. I only read this in tpb format, but he has a point. carey should at least seek some advice on execution of ideas and how to further entail it. it's not bad, but ithe potential it carries is not being utilized.

According the the synopsis for the next issue (or the one after that), his master is indeed Psycho Man.

Anyway, I really do love that they explained the whole "Galactus' heralds look like SS" thing. And it really does make sense after what we have seen in Galactus' arsenal.

4/5

I read the Psycho man article and it seems like it fits with all the micro scopic and size changing things going on. I just never heard of him and he's got a crap name. Why couldn't this just be Galactus of another universe. I like galactus as a force of nature and every universe has one. This silver surfer was from a different dimension, I think Ultimate Psycho man should be like some sort of galactus. I don't really want him to be called "psycho man".

But good issue

3/5

"I think they're sort of very much learning as they go. Reed in particular is a conundrum because obviously, intellectually he's a giant in the world. Yet, he still is a teenager.
How?! How is he a teenager when in issue #1 it says he's 21?! So what are they changing it to now, 19 or 18? Christ....

I'm a little confused with how old Enid is. She's drawn looking like a teenager in Devils, but here she looks barely bigger than Runaways' Molly. In one frame she looks like she's 8 (the one where she gleefully runs along Reed with arms outstretched).

Interesting you say that, VVD, cause i'll see your quote and raise you one from IGN's review...

"I don't know how to say this without appearing overly harsh and critical, so I'll just say it anyways. Has anyone at Marvel ever considered going to Mike Carey and suggesting that he should maybe try teaming with a writing partner for a couple of arcs on a title just as an experiment. Carey is so skilled at coming up with high level concepts that are fresh and new, but there always seems to be a problem with the final execution of those concepts. I really think if you teamed him with someone whose strengths were pacing/plot structure/etc - the end product would be much stronger."

See? Doom and some of the "experts" are on the same page.

Although they also think that USM is as strong as it's been in years. They also thought the Clone Saga was great. So.........
