The Bourne Ultimatum (discussions/spoilers)

I couldn't even get through the first one because it was so boring.

Meh. The Bourne movies are just a cheap knock off of a reasonably well-written series of books. It's painfully obvious that they're trying to make Jason Bourne into an American James Bond, but kind of failing.

The books begin to get very repetitive, very fast, and I imagine that the movies will take a similar route.

The bourne: Ultamatum

I loved its it kicked ***.

Man i love this franchise

I don't think Matt Damon is the best actor ever, nor do I think these movies are awesome. I couldn't even make it past The Bourne Identity... it was boring and I'd seen it before.

MATT DAMON!

I saw it last weekend. Right after having a Bourne marathon.

I don't really know if these films could be classified as action films. There are some fantastic fights and car chases....but the feel is that of a drama mystery thriller with some action thrown in. I don't know....I'm rambling.

The one thing I did like about all the films was Damon himself. He's not a great actor....but he's not a bad actor either. Damon looks like a normal guy. And that is where the success of the Bourne character really succeeds. He looks like a normal guy signing onto be a covert assassin. Assassins/snipers aren't these hulking monsters liek John Cena in "The Marine". And they aren't these scary dark emo killers like "The Professional". They're just regualr soldiers. That's what helps them blend into teh crowds so effectively. Ennis even comments on this in his Punisher MAX "Mother Russia" arc.

Anyways...I always thought they had the look down.

Where all the films fail lies with the camera work. I get what they were trying to do...but ultimately it just makes the shot shaky and incomprehensible. They were going for a close kinetic visual feel. Always on the go....right there as it happens. Unfortunately having a guy with a shoulder mounted camera sidestep around 2 guys as they fight in a bathroom is just wrong. It might sound good on paper...but it just doesn't excute right. And having a cameraman pulled on a wagon while he follows Bourne run across a gravely train field? Not the best idea.

The film was a easy 3/5. Great to see either in the theater or on DVD.

Personally I'd love a remake of the series all done with steadycams and quarter overhead shots.
