This may have been answered somewhere before but, I've been buying the spiderman TPB and i realized that not all but some of them have a little A in a white box next to the upc code. I was wondering if anyone knows that that is?

Is it a different, newer edition?
Or maybe a censored version for the kids?
Please reply.
Thanks.

A is the rating A is for All, it's like the ESRB

Re: Question

Actually I've read on Marvel.com that the A -- inexplicably -- stands for "Ages 9 and up"; there are other title like the Marvel Adventures and SM:heart:MJ that say "All Ages" on the UPC Bar Code.

Re: Question

Seems really obscure. To obscure to be a rating system but if it is i think they really need to revamp it.

I don't know, it seems pretty similar to the ESRB rating system.

Considering that almost ALL comics nowadays sport a ratings system of some kind indicating the age appropriateness of the book, I see absolutely no reason why "A=All/Ages 9 and Up" could be confused for anything else and why anyone would think it means the comic has been censored for kids.

And if it was a 'newer edition' they would probably make it a point to say, "NEW EDITION!" because publishers of books and comics would never conceal "New Edition" under some kind of letter code.

Re: Question

It's obscure because the "A" could mean anything. Usually when you have a rating system its in the front. Second not all the comics have the "A", Vol Six with Venom has an "A" next to the upc code but not Vol. 7. I don't think A stands for all ages because all the TPB would have them.
