There's a new show on CBS ( I lied Ice, it's on CBS not NBC) called Jericho. It's about a small town, that witnesses a massive explosion somewhere in the distance, and then the town itself is plunged into chaos as the shockwave reaches them. They assume someone bombed Denver.

I missed the first twenty minutes, but the rest of the show already has me skeptical that this was a bomb attack, but more after I summarize.

Skeet Ulrich was simply going to this town to get the money his father owed him. Driving towards Jericho, he gets caught up in the explosion, and ends up waking up sometime later. Eventually, he finds a bus of kids, and performs an emergency trach on one child, and tries to start the bus.

Meanwhile, back in town, the cops are going to go look for the kids. The go to assemble, when a black guy (whose name I never caught, cause I don't think he gave it) who was a cop from St. Lious offers some help. Now, I am extremely wary of this guy, as he points out lots of useful advice, but they never take it. The police leave and find a bus, but not the school one, they find a bus full of dead prisoners.

The next scene shows the dead cops and aguys walking away with their clothes.

Then it shows another kids replaying an answering message over and over again, which has his Mom saying she'll be back in town in a couple days. In th ebackground, the father is yelling, something like "Honey, come see this, something huge dropping out of the sky", then after some screaming, the line goes dead. The kid goes over another house when electricity goes out, and you find out his parents weren't in Denver, but in Atlanta.

The school bus arrives in town just as a riot over gas is broken up. And that was the end.

Or so we thought

The next scene shows some random female driving down a road. She hears, what she thinks is a flat, and she pulls over to check it out.

Turns out she ranover some dead birds.

The camera pulls back and the road, and the surrounding countryside is full of dead birds. (Which means radiation posioning is coming. The first thing that is affected by that is birds).

The story seems interesting, with sufficient twists and surprises, (I'm thinking the black man may have been another prisoner) that may be able to carry this story a full season.

Hopefully, it stays as good.

It's on Wednesday nights at eight on CBS

It had alot of potential, but then went in all the wrong directions. I just couldn't sustain an intrest.

Warren Ellis reviewed it months ago and said it was crap, I think.

I'm interested anyway.

Zing. The premise itself is very good but the first episode (which is apparently showing here as well in the States, which is beyond strange) was...well, boring. I mean, it was all just "blah blah money blah blah mysterious past!!!! blah blah daddy issues, blah blah repressed brother blah blah blah married ex-girlfriend with what was probably supposed to be unresolved sexual tension blah blah obsessive kid (I'll give points for sad, as well as the shock value when he went "She wasn't in Denver. She was in LA", but other than that, particularly when he was randomly suddenly aware they should start saving food, which of course totally made sense) blah blah blah car accident blah blah hero with a dark past struggling through the pain to help plucky kids, blah blah TRAECHEOTOMY in a bus blah blah oh no, we can't tell the difference between a bright yellow school bus filled with kiddes and a dark grey prison bus filled with handcuffs and full grown men who are still awake and murderous blah blah blah honest mayor reminds scared people that they can't give up yet blah blah blah.

That said I'm willing to watch the second episode to see if it gets even remotely more interesting. I hold out little faith though, because it smells like it's going to be all about whatshisface's tragic past and the terrible tension and if it's going to be, they should at least try to be interesting.

I find myself enjoying one episode and then the following week being somewhat disappointed. This week was great, however, I did watch it mid-day instead of at my usual 10:30 time. I watch the show OnDemand, so I usually get to watch the episode Friday nights, but this week I had to get sleep before the SATs. Actually I wanted to relax, so my dad and I watched Airplane! last night. It definitely worked. Side-splitting, that movie is.

Anyway, back to the show....

I'm in the same boat, whenever I catch it it bores me and I end up doing something else and forget to watch the damn show

I had such high hopes for this series too....

I can see why this was cancelled. But I fail to see how or why it was brought back?

I mean it's a decent show....but for the most part it's just kinda boring. I'm watching the DVD of Season1 and I find it so hard to stay entertained.

The only reason I'm still watching this is because Ourchair said it was good and I'm mostly interested in seeing how the Hawkins' storyline plays out.

My feelings exactly.

But hey, it'll be one of the few shows left on (network) TV with new episodes come February, so I'm not gonna complain.

So I finally made it thru Season1 of this.

Here's the show's problem---it's actually too good for it's own good.

I know that doesn't make sense. But hear me out...

Should a show on CBS starring Skeet Ulrich as the main lead in a post-apocolyptic conspiracy story about a midwestern town be worth watching? No. Anything starring Skeet Ulrich should be relegated to the VHS bargain bin in the back of Blockbuster.

But alas....this show is actually good. Great characters, engaging mystery, and extremely solid character development all thru the entire show.

Like I said---its an engaging mystery....too bad the rest of the personal stories get in the way. I could care less about young Dale's personal struggle to keep the local grocery store stocked, or the pretty blonde's worry about is her fiance still alive.

The only 2 main stories I could really care about is who exactly is Robert Hawkins? And will Mimi ever come to love Stanley? Other than that...who really cares?

I liked it....and I'm even giving serious thought to following Season2. I just wish I cared about the story enough. The show is produced superbly. The characters are extremely likable and interesting. Too bad the show itself moves so slow that you get bored easily.

If you can brave thru the boredom...you'll find a quality show.

I have noticed your previous remarks about this show.

Mark my words, I will have before you a piece by piece analysis of this show's faults and why it's ratings were poor in the first place, but why it is good in spite of it.

I still love it, but I can see why it's surface qualities just don't guarantee the same kind of ratings success of 24, Veronica Mars or Shark.
