The Licensing International Expo 2008 is currently taking place in New York and a great batch of photos has turned up, including these displays for G.I. Joe and RoboCop (with a 2010 release date).

Holy crap! a new Robocop film. How did I not hear anything till now?

why must they ruin it?.....how much damage can you do after number 3...or was it 4?

besides the point, is this gonna be a re-make? or an add on story? or whole new animal?

Maybe it's to redeem it's self after 3 and those 4 directives movies. Like The new rocky redeemed the rocky franchise after V

I heard the Directive movies were okay. They have to be better than the series where Robocop failed to kill anyone in the entire run of the series.

I'd be game for a new one. Preferably an entirely new film instead of another sequel.

My guess is it will be some sort of remake, which could be cool, as long as they find a way to splice in the scene where Murphy gets shot to little pieces, I'll be a happy camper.

I will reserve judgment on this. But I love the first movie and I hate the second and third to the point that I refuse to be excited until this thing is out and it proves to me it's worth getting excited about.

I am excited.

However, if it can't work in the sarcastically crude sense of humor and excessive gore that made the first awesome, then I'm not interested.

"Hey Richard. Mind if I call you Dick?"

They were better than the series , but not by much. They are horrible. They do a whole Black Robocoop story that's so bad.

"I'd buy that for a dollar!"

They weren't.

I liked the TV show. It was great for what it was. While the original movie was a political and social satire posing as a bloody shoot-em'-up, the TV series was a political and social satire posing as a kiddy superhero show.

The 'Prime Directives' miniseries was just a bad set of science fiction 'thrillers' posing as political and social satires. RoboCop killed a bunch of people in them, sure, but I'll take kiddy friendly fun over watching blood drying on a wall.

(See what I did there? Zing!)

I really don't want them to remake the original, because it would inevitably be just a flashy action superhero movie. The original was made in the 80s and it works so well because it was made in the 80s. I really don't see what they could possibly do other than just throw a bunch of CGI action into it.

What only white people can be Robocops?

for shame mole.

How about a super-team of Robocops with different ethnicities.

It's like Centurions, only with more brutality.

WHITE POWER! ...... I mean... that's an outrageous accusation :shifty:

I would TOTALLY approve of Denzel Washington as Robocop.

I'm SO not kidding.

 No I have no problem with that. It's just the story of his black friend becoming another robocop and fighting him ect.... was done really badly. This is coming from a guy who like evil versions of heroes but the storyline sucked and his friend was a boring two dimensional charracter

Updates From Licensing International Expo 2008

In a follow-up to Wednesday's article on the displays at the Licensing International Expo 2008 in New York this week, scooper 'Compi716' sent us this note about the new RoboCop movie:

I was at the Licensing Show today, and I made sure to ask the MGM guy about 'RoboCop.' He said it is 100% going to be rated R, and, "It's going to blow everyone away. They've offered it to some really great directors. I can't say who, but wow." Sounds interesting.

Rated R Robocop, Nice!

Okay...so it's got blood.

I hope they've given it to a director and not just Michael Bay or something.

Yes but robocop 1 + 2 = 18 here and robocop 3 = 15 and trust me you can tell the difference

I sometimes endorse Michael Bay for some things, but I agree, they should give it to someone else.

Give it to Antoine Fuqua, of Training Day. It wouldn't be Antoine Fuqua with less resolute self-serious urban commentary but rather Antoine Fuqua Goes On Vacation And Also Makes Fun of the Media's Relationship to Public Affairs because he was hanging out with dark humorist screenwriters.

I could totally see it working.
