Jesus, guys, talk about knee-jerk reactions.

If you actually read the article it seems promising as a video game alone...in terms of the marketing aspect serving as the antithesis of Moore's intentions with the original graphic novel, well, thats really neither here nor there. But from the report, it seems the developers are at least attempting some pretty cool things with the game. I'm loving the mention of Rorschach being ultra-violent right down to testicle-crushing in the game. Co-op sounds good, and powers, abilities, and reactions consistent with the characters moral standing is pretty nifty, as well.

In the end, it comes down to gameplay. From what I read in the article, it sounds like fun. And you never know, the story could surprise and not be a complete let-down (in comparison to Moore's GN and the faithful movie adaptation), especially with Wein and Gibbons both involved.
 
I'll buy this if I like the rest of the comic.

it sounds like a silly beat-em-up, where rorschach kills too many, and goes on a "violence orgy killing fest" because thats what the producers think the gamers will like... but that misses the point- rorschach in the book is typically only violent out of necessity, or when he gets angry- not all the time.

i just am not fond of the idea of a "mindless beat-em-up" for the video game of one of the most, if not THE most, intellectual comic titles of all time.

i was hoping for something with a little more depth- a'la Beyond Good & Evil or something
 
It kind of pisses me off that people are just assuming this will suck, but not giving reasons they feel that way.

No one is required to explain their opinions, of course, but it'd be nice to get some clarification on all your views concerning this.


And for anyone who argues that gross commercialism is the only reason, I must say, WAKE UP! As soon as Watchmen became a confirmed movie, anyone who thought we wouldn't see a gamut of associated merchandise along with it must have been living under a rock for the past 40 years. How did you all not see this coming?

I'm not saying I support it or agree with it, I'm just saying I'll reserve judgement until more is known, and recommending others do the same.

Its a year away. Hopefully it'll be fleshed out more.

But, I have to say it: I think you're expecting far too much out of a licensed video game property.

Seriously, despite the quality of the work its based off of, when was the last time you played an amazing, mind-blowingly epic video game based off a movie, etc? And I mean as a tie-in to theatrically released movie (so don't start listing Star Wars games, Mole... ;) ). This isn't to say it can't be done...but when was the last time it was, if ever?

As for the motivations of the characters, reserve judgement until those motivations are fleshed out. Hopefully in at least an acceptable story.

Alan Moore has decided to die now so he can get a head start on spinning in his grave. :D

Seriously though they made a video game about Godfather and that's a way bigger scared cow then watchmen, so no one should be that surprised.
 
I agree with DIrishB

You can blast the game based on the fact they are making a game out of a defining comic book maxiseries, but don't blast a game's gameplay before we even see it.
 
I do not like this idea. Watchmen isn't really an adventurous action thing. It's just weird to think about playing this. I get what DIB and Houde are saying but I just can't get into this idea on a fundamental level

In that sense I agree with the naysayers. I'm sure Moore rolled his eyes several times when he heard this idea. And I can't say I blame him, to a degree.

However, with Wein and Gibbons involved (I'd love Moore to be involved too, but know it would never happen), I'm cautiously optimistic...at least about the cut scenes.
