And CBR posts Marvel's book, written by Fred Lan Vente. Cover by Ed McGuiness.

The comic, sub-titled "Origin of an X-Man," is presumably designed to coincide with the release of the Wolverine movie, due out the day before Free Comic Book Day!

It would be a lot smarter to give away single issues of really good, recognized comics instead of commissioning new comics that nobody cares about.

my LCS does this, on FCBD they go through all the stuff that hasn't sold and give away the stuff they feel people should be reading

it may not make good business sense, but it frees up some space on their shelves

That's a good idea. I'm not sure doing that does any more to get people back in the store than the new books that are being created for the event, but at least they are clearing out old inventory.

I'm saying...you've got a Wolverine movie coming out, Batman/Joker is huge right now...reprint Wolverine's first appearance in Hulk, or Joker's first appearance, or one of his more notable appearances. I'd bet that it costs less than trying to get a brand new book created and printed. And you'd get a LOT more people interested. Load it up with ads for new TPBs & hardcovers, games...whatever.

Here are some more free comic books, including DC's Green Lantern "In Blackest Night" and Marvel's Avengers thing.

I've always felt the same way... at least with regards to Marvel and DC. For the 'independents' it's a different thing entirely since they don't have the luxury of having extra money or a massive talent base crawling to write for them.

Though on the other hand, I really hated it when they gave away singles of abridged comics, like those highly abridged versions of Ultimate Spider-Man 1 a handful of years ago.

Could be worse. I could be an American with some kind of hero complex who is convinced he saves people from trucks.

True... but at least we don't have poor oral heath, blood pudding, and Hugh Grant roaming our streets.

No you don't

However you do have people putting "grills" on there teeth , Big Macs and Paris Hilton walking your streets.
