I need some help. I drew my uncle's name for our family secret Santa gift exchange and have no idea what to get him.

The limit is $25-35. The problem is that he is retired from GM and has more than enough money; anything he wants, he gets. He likes books, but I don't know what kind he prefers or what he already has.

He's a gadget geek, but most of you are gadget retarded so I don't expect any help there.

Gift certificates are a last resort. I hate getting them for him because they are so impersonal, and like I said it's not like he needs money.

Any ideas? I don't know what to do.

You could always ask him what genre of books he likes.

Also, I got the Egg Muffin maker that you love so much cheap at Sears, like 15 bucks.

I do know there are no specific genres. He likes Lots of stuff. I just don't know what he has.

And he went out and got the egg muffin maker right after I did, because it is so great.

Buy something that is old and not in production anymore. He is a gadget guy so try to find something in the area of 70's technical stuff. One of the first videogame consoles come to mind. Pong is always fun :D <--Just a suggestion.

Fred's suggestion sounds like a good avenue, get him something gadgety that's old.

Does he enjoy models? If he's retired, why not get him a book about a specific hobby, along with a beginner's kit for that hobby? Retired people have lots of free time on their hands.

If he's close to you, have your kids make something. A photo album with their drawings or something. I know nothing of your uncle, and only one con's worth of experience with you. But somehow, I don't think you could pull off that last one. You don't seem the mushy type.

If your uncle is someone who appreciates humor, maybe get him something zany, like this., or something in that vain.

Hey, even a humorous book that could be taken as a new hobby like this.

I hope these help.

Does he support a sports team? I ask because this year I bought my uncle for christmas tickets for 2 to explore any football ground of his choosing from the list (Since the list includes Man united his favourite team, mine too btw) He can go there and explore the ground.

It cost about £30 and seems like it'll be a gift he would like assuming a)you live close enough to his teams stadium b)he like an american football , baseball, basketball team or c) if they do something like that there.

Not bad, but he's had Michigan football tickets (real football, not soccer) for ages and is a pretty important alumni so he's done it all and seen it all. He watches other sports but doesn't really follow them actively.

I should add that while he's retired, he's not old and sitting home all day with nothing to do. He was a very high-up engineer with GM and retired early. Still in his 50s. He's married and they do quite a bit of traveling, so he's not exactly twiddling his thumbs.

Older gadgets are a decent idea, but I wouldn't know where to go to find something. He doesn't play or care about video games.

He loves my kids but I can't see him getting geeked about something they make. Maybe it's just me, but I assume that I and my parents are the only people that care about anything they make in that regard. Put it this way - I certainly wouldn't care about a picture someone else's kids drew for me. And besides, *I* drew his name, not my kids.

As you can tell he's one of the most impossible people to find something for. He is the one person I try my hardest to do well with as far as finding a cool present (I seem to draw his name every year) because with him, much more than anyone else, it's the thought. I'm just out of thoughts.

Bookswim

Netflix

You can apply pretty much any amount of money to either of these. I've had Netflix since August, and it works really well. I'm not sure about Bookswim, as I haven't tried it, but it sounds like a good idea.

Give him one of those. It's not like you'll run out if you give away just one.

Post of the Day.

I'd give him the baby. At least the other two can wipe themselves.

Did you end up giving him a kid?
