It looks interesting but will probably be as successful as The Invasion.

Rotten Tomatoes is a 'box office'?

I'll be seeing this tonight anyways.

No, but it is a pretty accurate barometer to ticket sales. There have been a few exceptions, but by and large it's pretty accurate.

Personally, I was hoping someone would point that that Klaatu and his colleagues are being rather hypocritical by preaching peace and then killing the human race when they don't listen.
I saw this earlier today. It had a good number of flaws, but I rather enjoyed Keanu. This movie is proof positive he should have been The Silver Surfer.

However, Klaatu Reeves never once preached peace at all in the movie, so I have no idea what this 'hypocritical' is you're talking about. I imagine you might be referring to something in the original movie --- which I've never seen to be honest --- which centred around war and the nuclear arms race, so that might be the reason why you (understandably) presume that there is peace preaching in the new movie.

Can something be 'critically panned at the box office?' Doesn't a movie just get critically panned, period?

I haven't seen the film either, and I do know that the message in the new film is different from the old one, I just thought it'd be cool to see.

And yes, that's why the previous post has been edited and no one will ever speak of it again.

It wasn't as great as I wanted it to be, but it really got my girlfriend and I talking a lot especially because environmental philosophy, ideology and politics is one of the things I specialize in writing about.

See when you actually agree and then go back and edit it, being all humble and stuff, I feel like such a douche.

From what I heard he says mankind should be killed cause they can't coexist with the planet. Or something along those lines. I hate that idea and here's why

I haven't clicked on the link you've provided, but I agree. It's probably no surprise that
Klaatu changes his mind later in the film, and concludes that humanity can change
but I, like Worldchanging editor Alex Steffen, believe that the concept of humanity's existence being at odds with the survival of the planet is a toxic meme.

It suggests that humans have absolutely no positive or symbiotic place within the planet. Which is kind of ridiculous because why would ANY planetary ecology evolve a species that will result in its own destruction?

Second, the idea that humanity's future in the planet is either a) voluntarily extinguish itself to ensure the planet's survival or b) continue to exhaust the planet and find its future only in traveling to other planets, undermines the political momentum and the will to imagine that is necessary to a better future.

Granted, we are a violent and destructive people and we are killing our planet.
