Post about weird obscure films you've seen recently, or generally enjoy watching.

Invasion USA Trailer

Because of the sheer lunacy of the trailer, I had to see this. Unfortunately, it wasn't quite as melodramatic as its taster. It had some moments of so-bad-it's-good-value though. It seems that not only does Chuck Norris have a fetish for roundhouse kicks, but also for driving 4x4s through things. This is the second of his films I've seen where he does this (the other being the so-bad-it's-good tour de ****in force that is Lone Wolf McQuade).

I've been watching the old 1950s Hammer Horror films, but since that's for a project, its not all that random... And actually, they've been pretty damn good so far.

I love how the focus of their Frankenstein movies is on Peter Cushing's Baron Frankenstein, and not the creature... In fact, "Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed" doesn't even feature him creating life from corpses, but rather putting a scientist colleague's brain into the body of another scientist he murders. It's a really interesting take that is a lot more character heavy than the Universal Monster films of the 30s and 40s.

I've taken a recent interest in the Japanese Godzilla films (of which there are many). So far, the only ones I've seen are the original 1954 Gojira (which is probably one of the greatest films ever made, regardless) and The Return of Godzilla from 1985, which retcons all of the campy Godzilla-battles-another-monster-formula films in between. They're both really good and excellent metaphors for the general mood of Japan in the wake of the Hiroshima bombings.

Plus...giant mutant dinosaur mayhem.

I just bought the special edition of Gojira that includes the first American Godzilla, King of the Monsters.

That's awesome. You know, for those who have netflix, they offer quite a few godzilla movies through instant streaming.

The Asylum continue to astound me. Every year, they release a dozen or so 'mockbusters', where they cash-in on cheap, obvious copies of blockbuster movies (that aren't even necessarily good to begin with). Some classics include "The Terminators", "The Day the Earth Stopped," "Alien-Vs-Hunter" and everyone's favourite "Transmorphers". They also have great fun with works that are in the public domain, like "War of the Worlds" (they even made a sequel!), Journey to the Center of the Earth and now Sherlock Holmes.

I watched "Transmorphers 2: The Fall of Man" the other day and it was an obvious copy of the first Transformers movie, right down to the "aliens gave us every piece of modern technology" plot device.

Don't bad mouth Asylum, they're keeping SyFy in business.

Actually, I love Marc "The Chairman" Dacascos in "I Am Omega". Which is frighteningly better than Will Smith's "I Am Legend".

War of the Worlds with C. Thomas Howell and its sequel, are so terrible they come back around to awesome.

The Terminators and Alien vs Hunter are so bad I've yet to finish them. Haven't watched the Transmorpher movies yet.

I'm so looking forward to their Sherlock Holmes movie. It's got aliens AND dinosaurs.

I sat through all of Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus.

I can't wait to see that.

Has anyone seen the Roger Corman Fantastic Four movie? It was never released but it is out there if you look for it. I think that would have been considered a B-movie (I've never seen it myself).

I wasn't doing so, I love them and how they don't pretend like they're anything more than what they are. A DTV film company who value profits first and originality second (they've even said this).

I really want to see both of these, as I finally saw the Spielberg version recently.

I watched that tonight and it was nothing but pure silly fun for 90 minutes. Also, in spite of the lunacy of there being dinosaurs and giant octopi in a Sherlock Holmes movie, they had clearly done a bit of research. Bit characters like Lestrade and Holmes' maid Mrs Higgins were in it. There were no aliens, though.

It was far more enjoyable than Mega Shark-vs-Giant Octopus (if still as hilariously bad). I (can't believe I'm saying this but) don't want to spoil anything, but the climactic battle was outrageously epic and fun.

Roger Corman Fantastic Four movie is the most hideously unwatchable film I have ever seen. I was genuinely disgusted by its existence, in every way. I never want to see that cinematic vomit again.

Just finished watching The Delta Force by the beloved Cannon Group and starring Chuck Norris and Lee Marvin (in his final screen performance). It is the most hilariously pro-American, anti-Arab film I've ever seen. It's quite possibly the biggest influence on Team America and other similar spoofs. I'm surprised it hasn't been remade.

Very entertaining, though.
