What are people's thoughts on this thing?

It is very obviously a proactive "one-up" attempt on this "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" business they have going on over at Marvel, except that DC are trying harder to attract the mainstream audience with an action-packed, fun-for-the-whole-family type deal, which specifically isn't a musical. Which is really a better idea, all round.

It's quite clear that this is going to be targeted at a "family audience" but at the same time it looks like they're trying their absolute hardest to make it the most epic thing possible as well as being very close to the source material. I wish they weren't doing Dick Grayson's origin, but it makes a lot of sense that they are, what with the potential for circus scenes, etc.

What I'm most looking forward to is this supposed "Arkham Breakout" scene.

Yeah, I'm pretty much definitely going at this point. What do other people think?

Looks interesting. I don't know about Jim Lee doing the artwork though.

While I don't like Jim Lee's shallow, characterless artwork in actual comics, I think it lends itself well to promotional material like this. It also functions well as something that can be fleshed out to 3-D in action figures or stuff like DCU Online.

I don't like Jim Lee, either. But I think he's suited pretty well to this thing. And anyway, those are just concept designs. Those screens won't have Jim Lee animations on them, they'll have actors' faces.

This isn't a musical, though. There'll be a score and music that accompanies the action, but there won't be actual songs performed by the cast.

I think a good way of looking at is if this is good, it will be what the Schumacher films failed to be. A lighter, more fun version of a still-very-dark hero. With action and batmobiles.

I guess it's a bit like those things, except I doubt there'll be any kind of audience participation.

If there was, that'd be a bit...odd.

"Nooo!!!! Robin has been killed by the Joker! But if you believe and clap hard enough we can retcon his death!"
