We need a Seinfeld thread.

Me, Gothamite, and his Irish friends that were over here for the summer became obsessed with The Seinfeld Comedy Program, quoting it and improvising our own episodes ad nauseum. I'm a lifelong fan of the original show but none of them had seen a single episode until after they got here, and after we'd started watching this.

Episodes 1 - 2

Episodes 3 - 11

Episodes 12 - 21

Because of our obsession with this, the
out-of-nowhere Seinfeld scene
in Scott Pilgrim was probably the funniest part of the film for us.

In other news, my favourite Seinfeld episode is "The Burning". What's yours?

I've only seen the first six seasons (I've got the complete collection though) so at the moment my favourite episode is either "The Parking Garage" or "The Contest." Every episode written by Larry David or Larry Charles is great though.

Did anyone watch the Seinfeld reunion in Curb Your Enthusiasm S7? It was perfect. Larry David actually wrote so much material for it it was liking watching two or three new Seinfeld episodes.

Larry David is a genius.

Wait, you haven't actually seen the episode the gif you posted is from? It's definitely one of my favourites too.

I shouldn't overhype "The Burning" as being really epic or anything, it's just what I consider to be the perfect episode. The concept is funny, the jokes and repartee are flawlessly fluid and it's spawned some of the best running jokes among my family. My favourite episode that you've seen is probably "The Race"(cue Superman theme).

Seinfeld is my favorite show, ever.

"Well the jerk store called, and they're running out of you!"

My favorite episode is probably The Marine Biologist, followed closely by The Soup Nazi.

There's an exchange between Jerry and Newman (can't remember the episode, but it's the one where Newman is trying to get transferred to Hawaii) I have in my Facebook quotes:

NEWMAN: Blast! There's no way I can handle 8 in addition to my usual load of one! I'll never get to Hawaii! I'll be stuck in this apartment building forever! The dream is dead.
JERRY: You're giving up that easy?
NEWMAN: I usually do. See ya.
JERRY: No, wait a minute, Newman! You can't let this dream die. You moving away is my dream too!
NEWMAN: What are you proposing?
JERRY: Whatever it takes, for as long as it takes me, where ever it takes me as long as it takes you away from me!

I never liked Seinfeld. I don't know why, I just could never really appreciate it. The characters always annoyed me. Curb Your Enthusiasm, while funnier all around than Seinfeld (in my opinion), also never really hooked me. I guess Larry David's humor is a horse of a different color than my black stallion.

i sort of agree. I'll watch it and it will make me chuckle, but i don't think it's the greatest sitcom of all time like it's been made out to be.

I'd rather watch Home Improvement, or Friends, or the Cosby Show, or M*A*S*H*, or Fresh Prince, or Boy Meets World, or Welcome Back Kotter, etc.

EDIT: or Full House.

... Home Improvement? Really?

I love Home Improvement, The Cosby Show and Fresh Prince, but overall, Seinfeld has the sharpest comic writing in a sitcom ever. Friends occasionally matched it though, and was usually pretty close. I prefer Friends by a bit simply because it's so much nicer and more comfortable. There are episodes of Seinfeld that are just too damn frustrating or depressing to watch. I don't think I've watched "The Parking Garage" or "The Outing" the whole way through more than once or twice.

The interesting thing with Seinfeld is that it, along with Frasier, is one of the few shows where I prefer the second half of the series to the first(Friends is the opposite of this). I know a lot of people aren't crazy about the post-Larry David episodes, but almost all my favourites are in there.

yeah, i think that's my beef with the show too. It's just so painful at times. Watching George get himself into terribly awkward or frustrating situations and then just keep digging just annoys me. I can only take that kind of humor for so long.
I don't think it has ever made me laugh.

huh, well to each his own i guess.
