Help Support The Comic Board:

I think the main problem people have is that people write the stories and put their creativity into it, so when someone goes and says "Yeah actually this never happened it's completely irrelevant" it can be quite frustrating for the creator (and by extension people who wanted it to be canon)

The novel is staying on the timeline. Period.
Mainly because, unlike the Krypto shorts which are unimportant and simply just exaggerated comedy hijinks to fit the Tex Avery aesthetic, the prequel book explains how Lex Luthor knows about Kryptonite and Superman's skill set.

That's important information until Gunn decides to give a new reason for why Lex knows these things.
In my reading of it, it's "not-canon" in the sense that there is nothing to replace that backstory as of right now.

I feel the best way to settle the canonicity of both would be to ask the creators if they intended them to be canon, or just appear as though they were canon

Pro Bot… you are reminding me of a family member. A very neglectful awful person in my life who took my opinions, mostly political and identity related not comics albeit, far too personally.

I am trying my damnest to be chill with you but you are honestly making it impossible.

Four people are very well aware that I was talking about Gunn and that not everything is about you. You act like I have a problem with the novel and comic being on the timeline, lol, no. I don't. I just think that, if we're being 100% consistent, the Krypto shorts are just as canon.

I love how you make it impossible for people to have a discussion with you, you act like a victim instead of a grown up. You're "blocking me" because I treat you like how you treat me and others, by laugh reacting. I only did that because you acted immature first.

Importance ≠ canoncity. Gunn thinks these are all non-canon because they're all equally unimportant to him. Neither the novel or comic are required to understand Superman, therefore they're "non-canon" to Gunn. This also applies to the Krypto shorts. Your personal opinion on whether they're important or not doesn't matter because my mom could watch Superman and not be confused or lost, so it's not really that important.

It's not a false dichotamy because that implies there needs to be a more nuanced view, but there doesn't.

1. Both set themselves in the DCU.
2. Both have been called non-canon by Gunn.

There, simple.

You are putting more effort into the antagonistic behavior than I am.

Let me hold us all accountable so this carnival stops.
@Blackbeard

We good?
