We've actually known that for quite a bit. I've had it in 2120 for a while.

If I were to include the novels, in regards to adaptations, should they only apply to the comics? Because details in the Earth War trilogy, like the very important revelation that Ripley is a synthetic (in order to keep the story canon) only occurs in the novelisation of Female War.

I did research on them and found out that the comics reissues were an adaptation of the novels, So since we discard adaptations i would add the novels and leave out the comics.

Infact in my Headcanon timeline I have the comics trilogy as adaptation.

The original comics came first but they were direct sequels to Aliens. Did the novels come out before they re-released the comics with the altered names?

ok so to say it simply.

First the comics trilogy came out, then Alien 3 came, so they re-edit the story with the novels and finally the edited comics came out. So since the edited novels came before, tecnically the edited comics are an adaptation of the novels.

Makes sense to me. I just always assumed the altered comics came out first. Thanks for sharing that info!
 
Comics are a visual medium though. That means they provide the physical depiction of those events described in the novels. I don't agree with removing them on that basis. Maybe only the Earth War trilogy needs to have both the comic and novel versions?
 
I would include both since you can easily consider both stories accurate, one just providing more details which is often the case with novelizations of movies

Aliens: Steel Egg is set in the 21st century but references Weyland-Yutani according to the Word Press timeline. I don't see why this is a continuity error when 2099-2100 are still technically the 21st century and thus I would assume much better placements than 2080... I think I'd rather use 2100 than that estimate.
 
Ripley technically being in Romulus is made funnier when you consider that she actually has another adventure between Alien and Aliens in the Out of the Shadows novel. Yeah... it creates a few inconsistencies from my knowledge but it's interesting that it even exists. You'd think that kind of retcon would be unthinkable.

Yeah, I've not read that one but it strikes me as unnecessary. Kind of like the Colonial Marines DLC Stasis Interrupted which does some interesting stuff...

Oh trust me, it gets even weirder when you place Stasis Interrupted¹, which is during Alien³'s intro and introduces a huge ass and completely unnecessary story, concurrently with Aliens: What If...?², where Burke sends Ripley out to Fiorina 161.

1: Which retcons Hicks' death.
2: Which retcons Burke's death, although it was depicted in a Bug Hunt short story, but it was said that not all stories in that were necessarily canon, but I'm gonna say it is and he had a nightmare while cocooned. Hey, it's a common trope! Ripley had one. The marine from the 1999 AVP game had one.

Weird stuff for sure that'll most likely never get touched upon again. My inner completionist likes to see it all laid out though. I usually add notes say this may or may not have actually happened when I'm putting together a timeline...lol

I've tried to find a good way to visually build it out in excel to show branches and alternate versions but I never quite like the end result.

With the Alien world it'd be nice since we've had a few mini reboots of the continuity in regards to the comics and books.
 
There's also many, many alternate sequels to Aliens that exist, so when you're trying to account for that sort of thing, you're thinking about the different mediums that depict different versions of an Alien 3.
 
If there's any notable mistakes or imprecise "(Main Story)" or "(Flashback)" notes, I'd appreciate assistance. I've almost added all the Alien novels now, basically just using other people's listed years. Hey, at least they're here right?

I suppose this would be one of the reasons Outland is apparently considered shoehorn canon to the Role-Playing Game. I guess it's an interesting reference.
