See If make sense: Dre's middle school year started in August/September 2008, in Detroit, then Dre and his mother moved to China, in May, in the middle of school year, so Dre continued his school year in China, that have finished in June 2009.

Could be May-August 2009?, Dre could moved to China in the middle of school year. Meiying say in early May, that her violin audition will be in a month, then June, was her audition, then I think the tournment will happen in early August. In Miyagi-verse, the Qixi Festival is in May, instead of...

He could already started school year, he started in Detroit in August/September 2008, then have winter break, then he continued in next year, 2009, but since he moved on, this time is in China. When the movie begins, like this, August 2008-June 2009, then August 2009 will be a new school year...

I thought better, even with my timelines clues, for me the better timeline from the movie is August 2009-July 2010. August because of Qixi Festival, that happened in Aug 26, 2009, then we have the emotional scene in June 8, 2010, then the tournament in later July 2010, but this is just my opinion.

I choose January to be the start of new school year.

So the movie timeline for me is January-July 2009, the movie start in January, in beginning of new school year, the Qixi festival in Miyagi-verse occurs before August, so doesn't have a big time jump in the movie, the full movie is in 2009.

We could say Dre rounded his age to 12, when he say in June 8, 2009, since he will turn 12 on July 8, 2009, one month after that date, since he practically already 12.

July 8, 1997 is Dre's birthday, so he have 12 in 2009 and then 13, in 2010.

There is a June 2009 calendar, a scene before Mr. Han say there isn't kung fu teaching in the next day.

Dre is already 12 years old at the beginning of the film, so the film has to start after July 8th, so August 2009 as the start of the movie works.

Dre's birthday is July 8, 1997, as seen in beginning of the movie, in the scene Mr. Han tells about his family accident, which occurs in June 8, Dre says he has 12 years old, the scene is before his 13 years old anniversary.

So the movie timeline could be like this, August 2009-July 2010. Dre could start his school year in China after summer vacation, after he moved to China.
