It's strange... I think Inglourious Basterds was the best movie of the year and I also think it had the best script, director, etc. This is how I would vote but not how I feel it will turn out. I DO think Waltz will win.

Also, has Tarrantino or his films ever gone up for an academy award?

Don't care as long as Christoph Waltz wins best supporting actor.

Totally.

I'll vote but I haven't seen all of these movies so they aren't totally fair picks.

BEST PICTURE
Avatar
Yeah, it had it's problems but it was literally the best picture

BEST DIRECTOR
James Cameron - Avatar
I realize it might not be the best movie of all of the choices, but for the amount of work and dedication that went into it, it HAS to be Cameron

BEST ACTOR
Didn't see any of these movies

BEST ACTRESS

Christoph Waltz - Inglourious Basterds

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Didn't see any of these movies

BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
Quentin Tarantino - Inglourious Basterds

BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE
Fantastic Mr Fox - Wes Anderson

I kind of want Up to win best picture...I know it won't but I want it to.

I guess I'll have to be satisfied with best animated feature.

After his first scene, I felt he earned it.

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE
Fantastic Mr Fox - Wes Anderson

Ah. There it is. I was wondering why UP was in Best Picture. Ever since THE BEAUTY AND THE BEAST they made animated features get their own Oscar, and Pixar wins it every year. And this year, they've got UP and FANTASTIC MR FOX and so they've given UP a shot at the best picture (which it won't win) as a consolation prize for giving the animation Oscar to Mr Fox.

If Inglourious Basterds or Avatar win I'm going to slit my wrists. If Basterds deserves to be nominated for an Oscar, then so do Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs. Basterds was such a letdown. The Jews are ****ing Nazis! Tarantino switched the dynamic and made Jews badasses. While that was clearly his intention, it makes the Jewish characters look like bad guys (especially the scene in the theater where Shoshanna is on the screen and it's on fire....she looked like ****ing Hitler in that scene). I'm surprised Jews weren't offended. If you want to make a movie about Jewish badasses, make it about Moses, the biggest badass in Jewish history. Make a movie about him, Joshua, and the Israelites kicking ass. Or about Albert Einstein kicking a bunch of ass. Or Anne Frank kicking a bunch of ass. But don't turn them into freakin' butchers. Christoph Waltz's nomination was definitely warranted though. As for Avatar....James Cameron has already collected a zillion dollars from Avatar, and he already has a friggin' Best Picture Oscar under his belt for Titanic. As for the rest of the nominees on the lists....This whole year just hasn't been that exciting in terms of movies.

So explain to me why a person of a certain ethnicity would be angry at the fact that someone of the same ethnicity is portrayed killing the very man that attempted to wipe their own ethnicity off the face of the planet.

Not who I think will win, but who I want to win:

BEST PICTURE

BEST ACTRESS
I haven't actually seen any of these so I can't pick one.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
Christoph Waltz - Inglourious Basterds

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Anna Kendrick - Up in the Air

BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
Joel Coen, Ethan Coen - A Serious Man

BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY
Neill Blomkamp, Terri Tatchell - District 9

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE
Fantastic Mr Fox - Wes Anderson

Because an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.

Look, Inglourious Basterds isn't told from the point of view of the Basterds. It isn't told from the point of view of the Jews. It's told from the point of view of the Nazis. The Nazis are the protagonists. Everything in the screenplay points to the Nazis being the protagonists. It's impossible to sympathize with the Jews in this movie. The movie sucks.

I fail to see how a Nazi who slaughtered a family hiding underneath a house to escape persecution with no regards other than complete eliticism could have been seriously seen as the story protagonist. Beside, Everyone was evil in that movie.

Up In The Air

I'm terrified Avatar will win. My pick so far is Inglourious Basterds, the best film I've seen in about two years, but I'm very excited to see Up In The Air.

BEST DIRECTOR
James Cameron - Avatar
Kathryn Bigelow - The Hurt Locker
Quentin Tarantino - Inglourious Basterds
Lee Daniels - Precious
Jason Reitman - Up in the Air

Depends. Of the three I've seen(third being The Hurt Locker), IB was definitely the best directed in terms of everything on-screen. Avatar definitely took more effort to arrange behind the scenes, though, which was Cameron's frontier as well. So it's just about what you think is the most important part of being a director. Personally, I think it should go to Tarantino. I don't want to encourage overglossed, shallow, burn-enough-money-and-it'll-turn-out-good-enough film-making as the best. This isn't even about my own opinion on Avatar being that. If you think it's actually a wonderful, deep film, that's great. But 90% of the movie's fans agree with me that it's not, but say that works anyway. So screw that.

BEST ACTOR
Jeff Bridges - Crazy Heart
George Clooney - Up in the Air
Colin Firth - A Single Man
Morgan Freeman - Invictus
Jeremy Renner - The Hurt Locker

THL's the only one I've seen. Renner was good. Oscar worthy? Nah.

BEST ACTRESS
Sandra Bullock - The Blind Side
Helen Mirren - The Last Station
Carey Muligan - An Education
Gaborey Sidibe - Precious
Meryl Streep - Julie & Julia

Seen none, but "Academy Award Winner Sandra Bullock" makes me cringe.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
Matt Damon - Invictus
Woody Harrelson - The Messenger
Christopher Plummer - The Last Station
Stanley Tucci - The Lovely Bones
Christoph Waltz - Inglourious Basterds

Waltz is the only one of these I've seen so far, but his was easily the most Oscar-worthy performance I've seen in years, so he's got my vote. It'd be stunning if one of the others turned out to be better.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Penelope Cruz - Nine
Vera Farmiga - Up in the Air
Maggie Gyllenhaal - Crazy Heart
Anna Kendrick - Up in the Air
Mo'Nique - Precious

Seen none yet.

BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
Marc Boal - The Hurt Locker
Quentin Tarantino - Inglourious Basterds
Alessandro Camon, Oren Moverman - The Messenger
Joel Coen, Ethan Coen - A Serious Man
Bob Peterson, Pete Docter, Thomas McCarthy - Up

Of the three I've seen, Basterds. Easily.

BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY
Neill Blomkamp, Terri Tatchell - District 9
Nick Hornby - An Education
Jesse Armstrong, Simon Blackwell, Armando Iannucci, Tony Roche - In the Loop
Jeffrey Fletcher - Precious
Jason Reitman, Sheldon Turner - Up in the Air

Only seen D9. It was great though.

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE
Coraline - Henry Selick
Fantastic Mr Fox - Wes Anderson
The Princess and the Frog - John Musker and Ron Clements
The Secret of Kells - Tomm Moore
Up - Pete Docter

Okay, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs was phenomenal and should absolutely have been nominated. But Fantastic Mr. Fox is one of the best movies of 2009, and it deserves the Oscar over Up, and I'll yell when it loses to it.

Also, no Best Original Screenplay nomination for The Brothers Bloom?

**** YOU.

next thing you know, they'll cast a terrorist as Captain America.

what makes the Fantastic Mr Fox or Up any good? I didn't even enjoy the movies, and didn't even find a little bit funny.

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs was a wonderfully done movie, one i enjoyed, and it was funny.

Well, you have to understand that those movies were designed to please human beings and not SOULLESS AUTOMATONS APING THE HUMAN CONDITION like yourself.
