We'll start with DC.

The Dibnys

Ralph and Sue Dibny, sharp tongued, fun-loving private eyes in the afterlife. They operate out of Purgatory, a trans-dimensional city that serves as a way station for the recently deceased as they await trial to determine what afterlife they'll proceed to, and is administrated by various deceased B to D-listers from the DCU. The city is constructed from pieces of various cities throughout time. The administrative hub of the city resembles Prohibition-era New York (thereby bringing the Dibnys back to their Thin Man roots and giving an excuse for smoky back rooms and fedoras and trenchcoats). As private investigators in the employ of the city, the Dibnys are two of the few souls who have license to travel between the world of the living and the cities of the dead. The series is identified by relatively light-hearted romps through the edges of the DCU that allow a spotlight on characters who are off the table for the mainstream DCU because of death.

Batman T.I.P. (Trial in Purgatory
With the streets of Purgatory flooded by the refugee souls of Earth-51 (an idyllic Earth where superheroes had retired, in large part because of Batman's rampage following Jason Todd's death, it was destroyed in Countdown), Purgatory faces the trial of a century. This Earth's Batman is finally facing trial for the Rogue Mass Murders of Gotham City, and dozens of his most terrible foes are being shuttled in from hell to testify against him. But the Dibnys suspects the rogues may be plotting a scheme to bring Hell to Purgatory. Plus, Ralph Dibny and Sue Dibny meet.... Ralph Dibny and Sue Dibny. Who's Nose Knows Best?

Jean Loring, Murderer?
With Jean Loring finally freed of Eclipso and her mortal coil, Sue Dibny finally has the opportunity to come face to face with her murderer. But in a world where telepathic control and mind-wipes are par for the course, can she be held accountable for her crimes? The Dibnys intend to find an answer, an answer hidden deep in the heart of the villainous Society.

The Mistrial of the Blue Beetle
The Blue Beetle makes a return to Purgatory after a series of time-hopping adventures with Booster Gold, only to stand under judgment of the Purgatory courts again for the exact trial he faced over a year ago. But the defense argues a mistrial, claiming the same man can't stand trial for the exact same death twice. Will Ted Kord get a second chance at life due to a technicality? Plus, together again: The Elongated Man, Blue Beetle, Captain Atom, Martian Manhunter, Red Rocket, and... Maxwell Lord? It's a JLI reunion in Purgatory.

Flash in the Pen
The former Flash known as Bart Allen died over a year ago, but his soul has yet to make the transit to Purgatory for afterlife processing, and the Dibnys have been tasked with serving him his papers. But this time they have competition. Fellow investigator Vic Sage is hot on Allen's trail, and he suspects an epic conspiracy at the heart of the former Flash's truancy, a conspiracy that spans space and time.

Re: Pitches I'd Like to See Made

That is awesome. I would love to read it. It's got like a supernatural-Gotham Central vibe.

Re: Pitches I'd Like to See Made

I gotta 100% agree with Proj on this one. Awesome idea, give it a good writer and it'd sell.

Re: Pitches I'd Like to See Made

Ourchair gives it five little girls out of five little girls.

Re: Pitches I'd Like to See Made

Thanks, guys. I know pitching non-existent books about company owned properties isn't going to get me anywhere, but it helps me get in the frame of mind for more legitimate writing.

There'd be a twist of that, sure. The internal logic could accommodate the trappings of film noir setting that would otherwise seem anachronistic. Ralph and Sue would take to the Gatsby style like fish to water, and Vic Sage would personify the noir vibe of it. He'd be Philip Marlowe with the sort of Eastern philosophy that would perfectly fit the karmic physics of Purgatory. But it wouldn't be nearly as bleak as Gotham Central. There'd be bleakness, sure, but it would be counter-balanced by the clever repartee of Ralph and Sue, and the off-beat, JLI style humor of Purgatory's supporting cast. They don't solve mysteries because they're driven by revenge or duty. They do it because it's fun, and they're suited for it. At the heart of it would be the idea that they've both been given a ticket to Heaven/Paradise/what-have-you, but they've decided they'd be happier living together as ghosts, solving mysteries, and killing their non-existent livers with careless drinking (and this would be the case for the supporting characters too. Every regular in Purgatory has a story as to why they haven't moved on yet. You'd have characters stuck behind because they still have purging to do, and characters who are willingly staying behind for their own reasons. It's a way of finishing the personal stories of characters who had their arcs cut short by editorial decision, in a way that wouldn't intrude on the impact of their deaths in the mainstream universe). That aspect of it would be highlighted in the first plot, where they meet the E-51 version of themselves who had the opportunity to live out the majority of their marriage peacefully, free of unneeded pathos and crises. But there'd be bleakness. The E-51 rogues would be terrifying, classic versions of Batman's rogues who Batman refused to make concessions for, and have spent years having their psychoses tempered in the torturous pits of hell. And there'd be the procedural aspect of it too, except there'd be a twist of fun to it, because the procedure of law doesn't follow normal earthly laws. It's all metaphysicy. I think there'd be a lot of fun with the Dibnys trying to cut through the red tape necessary to get in possession of a couple of dead super villains so that they can infiltrate the Society. Oh, and Plastic Man. There'd be plenty of Plastic Man to go around in the Society plot too.

Oh, and Blue Beetle's trial lawyer would be Maxwell Lord. :D And I like the idea of Dr. Light as the resident metaforensics expert, but apparently she's not dead? Think you could kill her sometime soon, Didio?

Re: Pitches I'd Like to See Made

Yeah, I've got a bunch of pitches for short arcs, and a 12 issue Black Panther run that I've written up in a book somewhere.

We could always make this into a general "comic book pitches" thread.

Re: Pitches I'd Like to See Made

Black Panther FTW!

Also, I would love to see Wyatt Wingfoot get a meaningful pitch development in some form or another.

I'd like to see Wyatt as the pulpy international daredevil of the Marvel Universe.

Re: Pitches I'd Like to See Made

I've got a Shang-Chi pitch, a Genis-Vell pitch, a Cloak & Dagger pitch, and a couple others

Nooooo no, no, no...no

Hehe, I kid, I was wondering if you'd catch that. I'd like to see you do it, I think you'd make it rock.

Hah! You clever minx!

Maybe this is presumptuous, but I think we should work on a project together in the near future.

I would totally buy that comic.

PETITION!

A couple of notes on The Dibnys.

Somewhere in there, we'd squeeze a one-shot about Jim Corrigan testifying against Crispus Allen's son for murder, with an enraged Crispus-as-Spectre forcing his way into Purgatory and banging on the doors of the courthouse demanding justice.

And once the Dibnys started to venture forth into the world of the living, Traci 13 (who was apparently adopted by the Dibnys for a time) would be introduced as a supporting cast member for them in the real world, doing some of the footwork they can't, adding a certain Beetlejuice quality to the book.

Anyway... In lieu of a Shazam revamp, I present you with:

Wyatt Wingfoot: Agent For Hire

or if you prefer

Wyatt Wingfoot: Agent of Nowhere

In the wake of the Skrull Invasion, SHIELD Director Tony Stark recognizes the value of a freelance agent who can dodge through the red tape to allow cooperation between SHIELD, SWORD, other government agencies, and even the unregistered heroes on the lam who have valuable knowledges and specialties that registered teams simply don't. Wyatt Wingfoot, who has proven an invaluable hero, has connections throughout the superhero community, but is still publicly unknown, is chosen as an off-the-books multilateral agent. His contact with the organization is provided through Nick Fury, who is officially dead and has numerous LMD's running around, offering plausible deniability on the part of SHIELD, in the event that Wingfoot becomes compromised. Or maybe his liaison could be Dirk Anger, a renegade, faulty LMD of Nick Fury who's since been drawn back into the fold by SHIELD, who is now using Anger's organization, HATE as a double blind cover for high-risk espionage maneuvers. Wingfoot is dispatched to situations where SHIELD can't risk being held accountable. He has on-hand a team of likewise freelance specialists, including super-lawyer, love interest (and FF alum) She-Hulk; Bob, Agent of HYDRA; and psychiatrist Doc Samson. I've got plots in mind, and I'll put them up when I'm not lazy and hungover.... but I'm not as aware of the intricacies of the Marvel Universe as I am DC, so it's not going to be as in-depth.

But the early plots would have Wingfoot investigating a stranded Skrull ship in the Savage Land, negotiating a peace treaty (and ending up embroiled in a Civil War) on Breakworld, and facilitating an American-supported coup in Atlantis. Oh, and depending on how the new Marvel Zombies miniseries turns out, maybe Wyatt traveling to the Zombieverse.

Pfffft. You mother****ers need to stop talking about what you'd like to do and start posting what you would do, or I swear to God, this will revert back to my own personal thread, like ourchair has.

*shakes fist*

NO!

Fine, I'll come up with something tomorrow then, for you and your ****ed up ego.

Don't knock the Ego. The Ego is righteous.

I am excited for gorillas though.

Maybe I'll polish off my old Marvel 52 idea from Proj's old OYL thread.
