So I've noticed on the MGM channel in NZ this month there seem to be all of these old movies I've never heard of... except they have great plots. An example is this one:

"Scarecrows"
Five bank robbers on the run get more than they bargained for when one of them parachutes from their hijacked plane into a cornfield populated by killer scarecrows.

Sounds pretty normal... and then we get random killer scarecrows. That makes this movie a must see. Unfortunately, I missed it. I hope it's on later in the month.

Tonight I am recording "Food of the Gods" just before Adult Swim... which is about animals ingesting some chemical substance, growing huge and threatening some people stuck on an island... sounds fun.

Anyone else recommend some "cult" movies that no one's heard of?

I've read the novella that was based on! The science... it's soooooo bad... Anyway, the end had this vague moral with giant people. I predict, using my amazing powers, that the movie will end with the military vs. giant wildlife, or civilians vs. giant wildlife. Probably something will be set on fire and it will end with an ominous shot of a giant egg or cat's eyes glaring from the darkness five feet up or something. Tell me if I'm right!

Will do. It's based off an HG Wells story.

And no, Joe Kalicki. These are real movies.

Here's one Tarantino shows at his Film Festivals: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planet_of_the_Vampires

Monkey Shines. It was directed by George Romero, but it's really, incredibly awful. It's about this quadriplegic doctor dude who has a really smart monkey for some reason or another, and the monkey decides to start murdering everyone who's ever been mean to the dude.

The climax is a showdown between the quadriplegic doctor and the homicidal monkey.

Also on at 1 in the morning is "The Two-Headed Transplant" or something like that. Apparently, a murdering scientist transplants the head of a retarded farmer and the combination of the two turn him into some rampaging monster.

I passed on that one.

I saw the Malcolm episode that parodied that.

I think there are less than six degrees but more than one degree of separation between me and every movie mentioned.

Has anyone seen Gargoyles from the mid-seventies? Nothing really sticks out about it, but it follows the blueprint of bad TV-afternoon horror movies to a tee. It's really quite atrocious, but it's got a special place in my heart.

Not really a cult movie, but an art house movie, Matthew Barney (Bjork's husband) made a series of films called the Cremaster Cycle. . . I just watched Cremaster 4 (the first one), most of it anyway since it was partially taken down for content, on Youtube. I've been wanting to see these for years and missed out when they were shown in Chicago last, about four years ago, and they're not available on DVD.

Anyhow. . . if you ever want to watch a movie all about balls, this is the one for you.

Either. I'd prefer the lesser known movies that are so bad they're good though. They're always neat to watch.

Sargent Kabuki-Man NYPD - One of the Troma Flicks (Toxic Avenger, Class of Nukem High) this one centers around a New York Cop who gets the powers of a Kabuki performer and uses them to save the world.

I'll have more later, they're just not coming to me...

I'm less than 5 from most of Hollywood, and even closer to the B-movie crowd. Go Tom Savini!
