CBR.

As reported earlier today by Clifford Meth, legendary comic book artist Dave Cockrum passed away this morning due to complications from diabetes. He was 63.
Mr. Cockrum was best known for his work on "Legion of Super-Heroes" and "Uncanny X-Men," though his route to comic books wasn't as direct as one might imagine. The artist first spent six years in the United States Navy before finding employment at Warren Publishing. He soon became an assistant to inker Murphy Anderson, which soon brought Dave Cockrum into the orbit of Superboy & The Legion of Superheroes. His work on "Legion" in the seventies, re-designing the costumes and aesthetic of the series, remains a highpoint in the popular superteam's history. Later, teamed with Len Wein and Chris Claremont, the artist redefined the X-Men at Marvel Comics in "Uncanny X-Men" and "Giant Size X-Men."

Meth, a close family friend and the man behind the Dave Cockrum tribute book, explained, "There are no details of services at this time. Dave asked to be cremated and his widow Paty is burdened with the news, so well wishers are asked not to call. Email can be sent to [email protected]"

Man, 63 is too young. I don't know who he is, but it's always a tragedy to lose a gifted artist.

I think I saw some of Uncanny X-Men work in an Essential volume, and it was pretty good for the time.

It makes me feel worse when I found the name "Meth" funny... :?

How come that article talks about the Legion of Superhero costume changes but fails to mention that he co-created one of the most famous and popular comic characters of all time?

Who?

Oh geez. This has been a bad work for comics. First Jerry Bails and now another legend dies. I'm going to have send my respect.

When I first read this, I was like, "Oh no!" and began to shed tears. I didn't know him, but you don't have to know someone to feel like you lost a friend.

You started to cry? Wow, you are one empathetic person.

I wasn't crying a river, but still, it affects.
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it. It just means your very empathetic. Personally, I wish I was able to cry with less emotional provocation.

Just a side question, is it just me or do very creative people seem to die younger than most?

To be successfully creative, I believe you have to be a practicing chaos magician and smoke a lot of foreign objects.

I imagine the combination of these two and the stress of constantly creating new ideas would eventually kill you.

And Ice; you actually cried? :?

Not like my mother just died. Eyes got watery and stuff.

Problem with that?

No, I just thought it would be kind of strange to read someone you don't know die, and then ball your eyes out.

But you didn't do that.

I never knew his Colossus, Nightcrawler and Storm designs were unused concepts for the Legion of Superheroes. Imagine if they weren't X-Men...
