It was technically solid and had an interesting uber-plot, but it never came to life for me. It felt like it was going through the motions. I can't bring myself to say it was bad, as it wasn't, but I was never excited to read it.

I don't know Millar changed Ultimate F4 into the regular 4 book. The 1st 3 arcs had a realism to it like most of the UU has. Millar took that away. I know he said "Its Fantastic 4 not Realistic 4" Yes he spawned Marvel Zombies which was great and Ultimate Namor & Ultimate Inhumans who all rocked but he introduced time travel, Minimates, a giant robot with the 4's powers, The lack of banter between Torch and Thing, and No cool Thing vs stuff fight scenes. Im glad its done. I don't know if its good or bad i'm on the edge. I don't know about Mike Carey stuff either if it makes the Millar luvers any better.

I miss Warren Ellis

I thought the time travel was great. It remained internally consistent, and paid off once you read the entire President Thor arc.
