and i really hope Day & Night wins the oscar for animated short

The Social Network is based on a book and Toy Story 3 is a sequel with existing characters.

Pretty decent or as-expected overall. True Grit was fine but it doesn't deserve a Best Picture nomination over a lot of other films this year(even How To Train Your Dragon). It's totally out of Coen Bros. loyalty, but again, it was expected.

But somebody on Facebook just pointed out Christopher Nolan didn't get nominated for Best Director for Inception.

:dazed:

Maybe they're saving that for a "Best Directed Films Of All Time" nomination?

I see. Thanks, I didn't understand how that worked.

But somebody on Facebook just pointed out Christopher Nolan didn't get nominated for Best Director for Inception.

:dazed:

Maybe they're saving that for a "Best Directed Films Of All Time" nomination?
yeah, that seems like an oversight.

BEST PICTURE
The Social Network - This is the only year where I've seen all of the nominees before they were announced and while I enjoyed all of them, The Social Network was my favourite. It is one of the best films I have ever seen.

DIRECTING
David Fincher, The Social Network - I can't believe Christopher Nolan didn't get nominated for this. I wonder why the Academy hate that guy so much? Anyway, Fincher has deserved this for years and it is rightfully his.

ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE
Colin Firth, The King's Speech - I haven't seen Biutiful yet and while I enjoyed the rest of these performances, Colin Firth was definitely the best.

ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE
Natalie Portman, Black Swan - I want her to make a joke about that guy sleeping with her again.

ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Christian Bale, The Fighter - Andrew Garfield should have been nominated in this category. This category is just as predictable as the last three years and Bale will win easily for a great performance in a good film.

ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Hailee Stanfield, True Grit - I'm so glad Jacki Weaver got nominated. Anyway, Stanfield was the lead in True Grit but I guess she wouldn't have made it into the top five in that category. She stole the entire film.

ADAPTED SCREENPLAY
The Social Network - Aaron Sorkin.

ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
Inception - It has to win something.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM
I haven't seen any of these!

ANIMATED FEATURE FILM
Toy Story 3 - **** DJF.

CINEMATOGRAPHY
True Grit (Paramount) Roger Deakins - Roger Deakins needs to win an Oscar.

FILM EDITING
The Fighter - Inception!

DOCUMENTARY
Exit Through The Gift Shop - The only one of these I've seen. They should have nominated Catfish for fun.

DOCUMENTARY SHORT SUBJECT
I haven't seen any of these.

ORIGINAL SCORE
The Social Network, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross - My favourite score of all time.

ORIGINAL SONG
Toy Story 3!

VISUAL EFFECTS
Inception - No Scott Pilgrim vs. the World? No Tron Legacy?

ART DIRECTION
Inception - I think it's going to win almost all of these technical awards.

COSTUME DESIGN
The King's Speech.

MAKEUP
I haven't seen any of these.

SHORT FILM, ANIMATED
Day & Night (dir: Teddy Newton) - Pixar!

SHORT FILM, LIVE ACTION
I haven't seen any of these.

SOUND EDITING
Inception.

SOUND MIXING
Inception.

Proj, I want TOY STORY 3 to win in the Animated category (and song category) as well. It was at least better than HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON and I haven't yet seen THE ILLUSIONIST.

BEST PICTURE
Inception - I haven't seen The Fighter, The Kids Are All Right, 127 Hours or Winter's Bone yet, but Inception was definitely the crowning film of the year for me and is easily a Best Picture-worthy film.

DIRECTING
David Fincher, The Social Network - Inception still gets my write-in vote, but the direction in Social Network and Fincher himself are both Oscar worthy in their own right too. Seriously though, what happened here?

ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE
Colin Firth, The King's Speech - Haven't seen Biutiful or 127 Hours yet. The latter looks like a strong contender too, but Firth's performance was remarkable and well worth of this honour. Edward Norton gets my write-in for Leaves Of Grass.

ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE
Natalie Portman, Black Swan - The ONLY one of the nominees I've seen so far, and a very powerful, tour-de-force performance.

ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Geoffrey Rush, The King's Speech - I can only vote between Renner and Rush, so it easily goes to Rush's excellent performance. Bale's looked looked really good in commercials though and it'd be neat if he won in general.

You know who should've been nominated? Steve Speirs for Cemetery Junction.

ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Hailee Steinfeld, True Grit - She's worthy of the lead nod, but if being nominated here means she'll actually win, good for her. She didn't just steal the film, she made it.

ADAPTED SCREENPLAY
The Social Network (Sony Pictures Releasing), Screenplay by Aaron Sorkin - If they only give out one award the entire night, it should be that for this.

ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
Inception (Warner Bros.), Written by Christopher Nolan - A work of almost intimidating genius. Nolan conceiving of it all and then making it work this well is an Olympian achievement that deserves the gold here. I'm always disappointed when they rank truly original stuff like this against screenplays based on true events, and while The King's Speech was great, Inception better win.

Tim Blake Nelson deserves a nomination for Leaves Or Grass.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE FILM
Haven't seen 'em.

ANIMATED FEATURE FILM
Toy Story 3 - Haven't seen The Illusionist. HTTYD was marvelous, but Toy Story 3 is the best finale since ROTK and possibly the most moving film of the year.

CINEMATOGRAPHY
The Social Network (Sony Pictures Releasing) Jeff Cronenweth

FILM EDITING
The Social Network (Sony Pictures Releasing) Angus Wall and Kirk Baxter - Another ridiculous Inception snub, but another award TSN is worthy of in its own right.

DOCUMENTARY
Haven't seen 'em.

DOCUMENTARY SHORT SUBJECT
Haven't seen 'em.

ORIGINAL SCORE

How to Train Your Dragon (Paramount) John Powell - Excellent. The film wouldn't have been the same without it.
Inception (Warner Bros.) Hans Zimmer - As above. Sweeping brilliance.
The Social Network (Sony Pictures Releasing) Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross - Very original and maybe the cementing factor in the film's quality, countering the screenplay beautifully. Overall, I give it to TSN because of its surprising originality and the fact that if I were to give it to any film I saw this year, Atticus Ross would be winning this award for The Book Of Eli anyway.

ORIGINAL SONG
I'll judge when I see them performed.

VISUAL EFFECTS
Inception (Warner Bros.) Paul Franklin, Chris Corbould, Andrew Lockley and Peter Bebb
Iron Man 2 (Paramount and Marvel Entertainment, Distributed by Paramount) Janek Sirrs, Ben Snow, Ged Wright and Daniel Sudick

Either of these are well-worthy. Both were dazzling.

ART DIRECTION
Inception (Warner Bros.), Guy Hendrix Dyas (Production Design), Larry Dias and Doug Mowat (Set Decoration)

COSTUME DESIGN
I dunno. Alice In Wonderland or True Grit I guess.

MAKEUP
The Wolfman's the only one I've seen and had pretty good makeup.

SHORT FILM, ANIMATED
Day And Night's the only one I've seen and frankly, I found it underwhelming. I'm positive there's a better animated short of 2010.

SHORT FILM, LIVE ACTION
Haven't seen 'em. I want to YouTube them before the Oscars.

SOUND EDITING
Inception, Richard King - But it sounds like TRON might deserve it.

SOUND MIXING
The Social Network, Ren Klyce, David Parker, Michael Semanick and Mark Weingarten - Listen to how the scene between Zuck and Sean talking one-on-one at that table in that club realistically recreates the experience of trying to have a conversation in a loud club, but you can still hear them clearly, AND the music itself is enhancing the scene.

Oh, don't get your panties in a bunch, I was only joking.

Well, I was serious, but intended it in a joking manner.

You obviously care enough to return to the thread.

BEST PICTURE
Inception
but really, it won't so:
The Social Network
I take it back, The King's Speech deserves best picture

ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE
Jeff Bridges, True Grit
nope: Colin Firth, The King's Speech

ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Christian Bale, The Fighter
hands down....
Still thing Bale deserves this, but Rush gave him a run for his money in (you guessed it) The King's Speech

ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Melissa Leo, The Fighter
or
Hailee Steinfeld, True Grit
And again, have to now give it to: Helena Bonham Carter, The King's Speech

ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
Inception (Warner Bros.), Written by Christopher Nolan
but I wouldn't be terribly upset if it went to The King's Speech (The Weinstein Company), Screenplay by David Seidler

BEST PICTURE
Inception - Along with Black Swan, one of the best and most original movies in a loooong time.

DIRECTING
Darren Aronofsky, Black Swan - I really enjoy the way a scene could transition from goofy to comical to dramatic to horror in the skip of a beat. I think it's hard to capture true insanity and Aronofsky pulled it off well enough.

ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE
Jeff Bridges, True Grit - **** jesse eisenberg.

ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE
Natalie Portman, Black Swan - Tie
Michelle Williams, Blue Valentine

ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Christian Bale, The Fighter - I think Bale is overdue.

ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE
Amy Adams, The Fighter

ADAPTED SCREENPLAY
True Grit (Paramount), Written for the screen by Joel Coen & Ethan Coen

ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
Inception (Warner Bros.), Written by Christopher Nolan

ANIMATED FEATURE FILM
Toy Story 3
