Has anyone signed up for (Red)Wire? It says it's supposed to start today but as of a few seconds ago it still hasn't gone live.

A new music service set up by Coldplay, Jay-Z and others? Interesting. I shall wait and see.

I don't know if they set it up but they are (or will be) on it. I saw Sheryl Crow, U2, and some others as well.

"Due to demand today, our servers got a little overloaded. Sign up and we'll send you a note when we're ready for you to complete your membership. "

Nuts. I hope I don't miss any of the music.

What is this?

It's some kind of online magazine and their purpose is to combat starvation in Africa, but the main draw is that subscribers can get weekly MP3 releases of real music, not junky live versions or remixes of previously released songs.

No Korn though, as far as I can see.

I had never heard about this until you posted this, but I assume it's something to with with Project RED?

Anyway, I've been trying to sign up ever since this thread started, but it always leads me to a nowhere page that says, "Coming soon."

Dunno.

I hadn't heard of it until it was mentioned in Coldplay's email newsletter, then I saw it promoted on MSN. If you go to the (Red)Wire site you can preview a lot of the music.

The website now says the first issue will launch December 10.

Hmm. Most of the artists don't really appeal to me but I'll probably sign up anyways, with the charity and the giving and all that.

I'm much more excited by 4AD's "Dark Was the Night" in February.

New tracks by Arcade Fire, Bon Iver, Cat Power, The Decemberists, Grizzly Bear, My Morning Jacket, The New Pornographers, Spoon, Stuart Murdoch and Sufjan Stevens on one compilation? I'm sold.

See, I only support AIDS relief when it's indie-approved.

ooohhhh.

Forgot to mention - the first issue is out but as of yet there is no way to transfer songs to your iPod/MP3 player. As such, it's pretty worthless.

#2 is out today (downloading it now) and includes a U2 cover of "I Believe In Father Christmas". They've also released the script that lest you transfer songs and videos to iTunes (doesn't look like it transfers to any other program, but the files are 256kbps MP3s).

Jay-Z's "Brooklyn (Hold On)" from last issue is great.
