De Niro - Mean Streets, The Godfather Part II, Taxi Driver, The Deer Hunter, Raging Bull, The King of Comedy, Once Upon a Time in America, Brazil, The Untouchables, Midnight Run, Goodfellas, Cape Fear, Casino, Heat, Ronin and others

VERSUS

Pacino - The Godfather, Serpico, The Godfather Part II, Dog Day Afternoon, Scarface, Dick Tracy, Glengarry Glen Ross, Scent of a Woman, Carlito's Way, Heat, Donnie Brasco, The Insider, Insomnia and others

WHO IS BETTER?

I really like them both, but don't consider either to be the greatest actor ever or whatever. Taxi Driver and Dog Day Afternoon are two of the best, most definitive performances in all of acting, though. It's a tie for me right now. It somehow even feels like I'm "leaning" towards both actors. There are a bunch of films on both lists that I still need to see.

Aren't they the same person? Like Bill Pullman and Kevin Costner is the same person.

De Niro.

Seriously: Godfather Part II, Taxi Driver, The Deer Hunter, Raging Bull? Those just might be the four best performances ever.

Agreed with all except Deer Hunter which I've been meaning to see. You're probably right on that one too though.

Besides they're both great but I'd probably place De Niro as my favorite actor in the history of ever.

De Niro over Pacino, easily. Always enjoyed De Niro's acting and movies more than Pacino's and his.

Initially I was going to say Al Pacino over De Niro, since De Niro has 'slummed it' in more movies than Pacino, but it's really kind of a tie.

Al Pacino is occasionally a one-note performance, but he's a great actor in way too many ****ty movies.

De Niro slums it (i.e. not acting at all) for the paycheck, but he has been pretty nuanced in a few movies that don't really deserve his talent.

Missing from that list: Meet The Parents, Meet The Fockers, and Little Fockers. Major negative points.

I love Al Pacino's intensity. Even in a goofier movie like Dick Tracy - he was great.

Meet the Parents is good.

Missing from Al Pacino's list: Gigli.
