Didn't see a thread for this but yeah, another classic being remade. There are now on set pics of what Robocop will now look like. It's vastly different...

I saw the stuff released like they mock the original suit in the film , he transforms and now the picture above of Robo-Bat = I'm not going to see this most likely. It's just not robocop anymore.

I'm really looking forward to this, honestly.

It seems like it's going to diverge pretty significantly from the original but if it didn't, I wouldn't see any reason to remake it. It looks like it's playing with the same themes of commercialism and capitalism as the original and keeping the same satirical tone, but updating it for the present day. I hope it's not disappointing.

I just hope we're lloking at a matte black robocop because he's going to be digitally enhanced post production. I'm really, really not one to shout CGI it but thats a really bland looking design.

As for the themes and what not, rampent consumer culture is at least as bad and quite posssibly worse than in the 80s when the original was made. The concept has plenty to do and say.

I don't care for the design. It looks lazy, a guy in full body armor rather y than visible mechanical parts showing that Murphy is indeed a real cyborg.

At least Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Sam Jackson and Jackie Earle Hayley will not likely disappoint. I can here SLJ saying "I'd buy that for a dollar" on his character's tv show.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I really hated the original Robocop. It's not even, like, ironically good or funny. It's actually probably the stupidest movie I've ever seen, and I almost turned it off halfway through it. I wish I would have.

As such, I don't really care that they are remaking it but I guess I should watch the trailer.

The original doesn't hold up as well. It's got it's classic moments like the gun twirl or "I'll buy THAT for a dollar!" line, but other than that...I'm with you.

And seeing the trailer for the new one left me so meh.

This looks about as good as the Total Recall remake.

I agree a bit with E - I think ROBOCOP is overrated. It's not terrible, but it's really not that great. Unfortunately the new version seems to have removed the key draw of the character that he is a robot that used to be a man. In the trailer, he seems to be far far too human. When he screams when he realizes he's a robot, I felt that is a major, major misplay. Maybe it'll work but I think Proj is right, this will be akin to the new TOTAL RECALL. Polished and formulaic and thus losing all its charm.

"I'll buy THAT for a dollar!"

That line made me irrationally angry. It is so, so stupid. It's not funny, contextually or not, to the point that it's irritating.

That might be the worst line in the history of movies.

It was the movie's version of 80s catch phrase commercials. It's like saying "where's the beef?"

I know what it was supposed to be, and it succeeded on that level (at least to some degree). But it was stupid. At least "where's the beef?" made sense and was contextually funny.

Massachusetts is the best state to watch it in.

Also, I'm going to award this a Post of the Day.

They will be remaking Starship Troopers next.
