What would you say your films of the year are for the 2000s? I'm not sure how many of the "5 Favourite Films" threads are still around, but think back as best you can. Mine would be something like:

2000: Memento
2001: Wet Hot American Summer
2002: Spider-Man
2003: The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King
2004: Spider-Man 2
2005: Batman Begins
2006: Blood Diamond
2007: Zodiac
2008: In Bruges
2009: Inglourious Basterds

Kind of just to get the ball rolling, because I want to comment about each film and do runners up and all, but yeah, you get the idea. What are yours?

This is an honest list, mostly dominated by comic-book films, because those were the films that impacted me the most in the years that they were released on the big screen. My opinion has since changed where most of these films are concerned, and I've obviously seen far better films, but I'm basing it on the films that effected me most in or around the time of their release.

2000: X-Men
2001: About a Boy
2002: Spider-Man
2003: Daredevil
2004: Donnie Darko
2005: Batman Begins
2006: Casino Royale
2007: Transformers
2008: The Dark Knight
2009: (500) Days of Summer

Donnie Darko is 2001. 2004 is when the Director's Cut DVD came out. However, if you're counting it that way, it would be my pick for 2004 as well.

Redoing the list as films that affected me most DURING the year of their release, the only ones different would be either Cast Away or X-Men for '00 and Fellowship of the Ring for '01.

Aaaaaaaaaah, instantaneous nostalgia... :p

2000 GALAXY QUEST This year had some good films! CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON and UNBREAKBALE and THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE and O BROTHER WHERE ART THOU?
2001 THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING Wow, this was and is such a big deal to see. Yay! Also, this year had OCEAN'S ELEVEN which was kick-ass.
2002 ABOUT SCHMIDT Wonderful film.
2003 FINDING NEMO This year had two of what I think, are perhaps the most underrated movies of the uber-hype fests of the superhero genre of the decade: HULK and DAREDEVIL.
2004 THE INCREDIBLES This is going to be a list of Pixar's movies, the bastards. This year had SHAUN OF THE DEAD, dammit!
2005 SERENITY This seemed like a really poor year for movies, for me.
2006 CASINO ROYALE If only to stop me from giving Pixar another round of kudos for CARS.
2007 HOT FUZZ Wow, this year was awesome. NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, MICHAEL CLAYTON, THERE WILL BE BLOOD, RATATOUILLE, DIE HARD 4.0, IN THE VALLEY OF ELAH... top year.
2008 THE DARK KNIGHT This year was terrific too! IRON MAN, WALL•E and GRAN TORINO.
2009 INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS because Pixar just won't make a bad film. How is anything supposed to compare to UP? By killing Nazis, that's how.

2001 - Ocean's Eleven

How did I forget this?

While About a Boy is certainly, currently, my favourite film from that year, Ocean's Eleven was at that point one of my favourite theater experiences ever. It was my first real taste of a super-cool heist movie and the big reveal in the third act is still one of my favourite movie moments, ever.

Yeah, I change my pick for 2001 to Ocean's Eleven.

2000 Final Destination
2001 Planet of the Apes
2002 Star Wars Episode II
2003 Pirates of the Caribbean The Curse of the Black Pearl
2004 Alien vs. Predator
2005 Star Wars Episode III
2006 Cars
2007 Enchanted
2008 Speed Racer
2009 Star trek

Expanded, more thought-out version of my list, plus changed the 2000 film.

2000: Cast Away - Emotionally stunning with Hanks giving his Forrest Gump performance a run for its money. One of the first three DVDs we ever got, along with X-Men and The Wizard Of Oz. I used watch this again and again. Amazing
Runners up: X-Men, Memento, Unbreakable, Gladiator

2001: Wet Hot American Summer - My most painfully personal favourite movie ever.
Runners up: The Fellowship Of The Ring, Donnie Darko(but really the Director's Cut)

2002: Spider-Man - The most I've ever been obesessed with a single film, my favourite superhero origin, and the definitive movie theater experience of my life so far.
Runners up: The Two Towers, Minority Report, Catch Me If You Can. Great year for movies.

2003: The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King - The Greatest Movie I've Ever Seen.
Runners up: X2: X-Men United(maybe the best directed superhero film ever), Pirates Of The Caribbean.

2004: Spider-Man 2 - Probably the strongest installment in my favourite comic-book film franchise. Epic.
Runners up: The Incredibles! Harry Potter 3.

2005: Batman Begins - An amazing year for movies, but of all the best, this is the one I'm closest to.
Runners up: V For Vendetta is a VERY close second, War Of The Worlds, The Matador, King Kong, Goblet Of Fire.

2006: Blood Diamond - I'm usually kind of bored by this sort of film but this was so good and touching. DiCaprio is excellent. I already really liked it, but when we ended up studying the diamond trade in both Law and Economics in 12th Grade and all watched this film about four times between the two classes, it became even more special.
Runners up: Casino Royale, Pirates Of The Caribbean 2, Babel(which should've won Best Picture and Supporting Acrtess).

2007: Zodiac - So ridiculously thorough, incredible cast, Jake Gyllenhaal being used to perfection. I've seen this four times. I think that's the only 3-hour non-LOTR film I can say that about. Also, the movie that made me love Robert Downey Jr.
Runners up: Spider-Man 3, NCFOM, There Will Be Blood, Live Free Or Die Hard

2008: In Bruges - This year had a lot of really good movies, but In Bruges was the only one I felt was actually great. I haven't watched it again since before actually going to Bruges, but I look forward to it.
Runners up: The Dark Knight, Iron Man, Slumdog Millionaire

2009: Inglourious Basterds - The most impressed I've been by a film since 2005. An absolute, glued-to-the-screen, stand-up-and-cheer masterpiece.
Runners up: District 9, The Brothers Bloom, Knowing, Half-Blood Prince. I still haven't seen a couple of prominent Oscar films, so here's hoping they'll make it too.
