no that is a myth that companies like coca-cola created so they can put his face on their products with out having to pay him for use of his image.

it's genius. but very few people realise he is in fact real. But he allows it for 3 reasons 1) he's too nice to say anything 2) if people think he doesn't exist he can not get sued by companies e.g Hasbro when he gets his elves to make boot leg spider-man toys. 3) if people think he doesn't exist he doesn't have to pay taxes.
