You have to be a Tribune site member to read that.

Either way, great news. Nearly as good as having Cheney get the boot would be.

I have a lot of trouble giving this a yay. I am HIGHLY suspect of this move, somehow. I can't help but feel he's just getting outta dodge before some kind of s*** hits the fan. Like a subpoena over Plamegate. Or he's just going to help someone else's campaign or something.

See, I feel the same way.

When I heard the news, a big smile spread across my face and then twenty seconds later I though "What's the catch?".

Not being a part of the President's staff actually takes away any official protection that he would get from being subpoenaed and it sounds like the various elements that've been trying to get him will be coming on full force now.

The biggest advantage that the administration could get out of this is that his sure-to-be-glowing book on his time with Bush will probably be on store shelves by the time Bush is leaving office, maybe giving his all-important "legacy" one last little boost out of the pits of hell.
