The Year of the 365 Movies

There's a story in Irvine Welsh's The Acid House that I was reading on Monday that's about a guy who does pretty much exactly this.

Sorry, Doublehex, but you're apparently going to get a divorce, lose all emotional connection with other human beings, have meaningless and unsatisfying sex with a prostitute and then
commit suicide on film.

But at least you've got some cool movies to look forward to!
 
I try to do something similar though I often get distracted or forget about it. Hopefully you succeed.
 
The problem with me is that more and more, with movies, and anything else really, I insist on saving them until I'm in exactly the right mood for them what I think they'll be. I won't even just pop in Spider-Man or something unless I'm content with being almost completely preoccupied with Spider-Man for the next two weeks or so.

My University Library has a very sumptuous AV department where you can borrow any movies you want for free, but I've only done it with like two so far because everything else, I'm just not in the right mood. It's frustrating and it feels like a bit of a waste either way. I can't stand wasting things and wondering what they might have been other wise. GRRR!

I'm not exactly what you you might call a "movie buff," so it's likely that you've already seen most if not all of my suggestions. But then, I bet you've already seen movies like Citizen Kane and The Godfather, so I won't let that stop me.

And slightly OT - I really hate the current AFI list. Looking past its horrible exclusions (Gandhi isn't there, but the overly-sentimental and dull E.T. is?) and placements (Dr. Strangelove should easily be the highest Kubrick on that list, etc.), they also took off some fantastic movies (Fargo, Amadeus, The Manchurian Candidate, Close Encounters of the Third Kind) that were already there!

And of course, one can't forget that they added Titanic, quite possibly one of the worst and most overrated movies of all time, on the list. I want whatever the person who thinks that's a good movie is smoking!

But I digress. This isn't the thread for this. Just thought I'd mention it.

I think you should record your experiences in a blog or something. Like a couple of sentences about each film, any strange occurrences, your progress etc.

I recommend LOCK, STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS and SNATCH.

I have not heard of/ seen 90% of these movies. 8)

So wait, why are you rewatching movies you've seen? Isn't the whole point to watch 365 days of movies you've never seen before?
