Looks like Todd Mcfarlane wants to create his own low budget R rated Spawn Sequel, he is willing to finance the thing himself with the budget being around 20 million dollars.

Pass. The character just isn't that interesting enough anymore to warrant another film. Whether it be a reboot or sequel.....just no.

Just be happy the HBO series pretty damn decent and move on. If anything, McFarlane should try and come up with another character and.......oh wait---he already did that? He called it Haunt and it looks like a cross between his old Spidermans and Spawn?

Hmmm....maybe he should just stick to designing weird toys and statues.

Well the problem is Spawn is a product of his time, everything about him screams early 90s, he isn't a timeless character like Spider-Man or Batman.

Plus Punisher war zone proved that a small budget R rated movie can suck just as much as a big budget PG-13 movie and Punisher was a good comic.

Another problem is Todd isn't much of a writer, so the script would suck if it was just him as the writer and McFarlane directing it himself seems like a bad choice, considering he has never directed anything in his life.

I actually dug Spawn when it first came out.

Yeah, but have you gone back and read those issues now that you are older?

To me I think Spawn represents everything that is bad about comics in the 90s. He's not even original on any level , his concept is ripped off from Ghost Rider, his costume is nothing more then a merger of Batman, Spider-Man and Ghost rider and he's very uninteresting character, who just seems to whine a lot. Plus I never understood what that green power bar at the beginning of the first couple of issues was supposed to mean, did that go any where?

Maybe not, but it was really one of the most important comics for heralding in the dark age of comics. Spawn's sucess helped establish Image as a major player and that led to all the bad Rob Liefeld comics Image produced, like Young Blood, Blood Wolf and I dunno, Blood Gun or something stupid like that. Spawn was the beginning o af very bad trend, which is why I don't like him.

As far as I can tell, the only real thing McFarlane is doing for 'Haunt' is inking the series. He's the bloody inker.

Although to be fair, the inking is something you notice when you look at that picture. Kirkman and Ottley are writing and given that they're the men responsible for 'Invincible' (which is one of my favourite ongoing series) I'm pretty much on board to go ahead and read it.

I don't see the logic or sense in blaming all things Rob Liefeld on Spawn.

Blame Marvel for giving him a job in the first place. Blame Levi's for using him in a commercial.

Ha! That's kind of cool. Although Invincible saying something as generic and contrived as "I'm not that much of a team-player" is irritating, because, well, yes he is. He teams up with other Kirkman-heroes and teams in nearly every single issue.

I liked Spawn as a background character in "The Invincible War". I know next to nothing about him except that he looks sort of cool. Given that 'Guardians of the Globe' will inevitably have the same comedic feel as Invincible, I'm sure his inclusion won't lead to any overt crappiness.
