#1-12:

"I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" by The Proclaimers.

'Nuff said.

Only the cool people will get this.

I guess it's pretty sad you can't get your own references, huh Ice?

I kid.

This is way, way, way too hard. Albums would be so much easier. Here's a decent guess on my part though, in no particular order.

I Walk the Line - Johnny Cash
Here Comes My Baby - Cat Stevens
Birdhouse in Your Soul - They Might Be Giants
Should I Stay or Should I Go - The Clash
Rush - Big Audio Dynamite
Walls (Circus) - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Hide Your Love Away - The Beatles
Centerfold - J. Giels Band
We're Going to be Friends - The White Stripes
She Blinded Me With Science - Thomas Dolby
Blister in the Sun - Violent Femmes
Salisbury Hill - Peter Gabriel

This is so hard. The fact that the Kinks aren't represented at all, or Ruby Tuesday or Sweet Caroline. . . feh.

That reminds me of a thread I was going to post. I'll do it now...

I'm gonna have to add a couple of songs to my list. Here is the revised version (as you can see, the Classical pieces have been removed, as they really just don't fit in hear):

You Won't Be Mine- Matchbox Twenty
Chicago- Sufjan Stevens
Down Under- Men At Work
How You Remind Me- Nickelback
Rest Stop- Matchbox Twenty
The Riddle- Five For Fighting
The Scientist- Coldplay
Change- Tracy Chapman
Anything but Ordinary- Avril Lavigne
Clocks- Coldplay
Blue (Da ba dee)- Eiffel 65
Ordinary World-Duran Duran

There, that's much better. I don't know how on Earth I forgot Chicago the first time around, it's an amazing song.

Updated list, no order except for #1:

Bizarre Love Triangle(Every Time I See You Falling) – New Order
Love Will Tear Us Apart – Joy Division
Midnight Train - Journey
Tarzan Boy - Baltimora
Clocks - Coldplay
Higher And Higher – Craig Wedren & Theodore Shapiro
Born To Run – Bruce Springsteen
Eye In The Sky – The Alan Parsons Project
Faust - Paul Williams/William Finley(Phantom Of The Paradise)
I Believe In You – Kylie Minogue
When You Were Young - The Killers
Bittersweet Symphony – The Verve
Happy Heart – Andy Williams
All These Things That I've Done – The Killers

Oddityly enough, David Bowie is probably the artist with the most songs I really like, and he's not on here once. If I went to 20 you'd see at least 4 from him on it.

Ok. This was kind of hard but I just chose the songs I enjoy the most. My number one would obviously be Champagne Supernova by Oasis. Which is proably the most hauntingly beautiful song I've ever heard.

Champagne Supernova- Oasis
Boston- Augustana
No One Knows- Queens of the Stone Age
Daughters- John Mayer
Hey Jude- Beatles
Cupid's Chokehold- Gym Class Heroes
Snow- Red Hot Chili Peppers
Somewhere I Belong- Linkin Park
Cochise- Audioslave
Superman- Five for Fighting
Stan- Eminem and Dido
Drive- Incubus

This is pretty representative of what I listen to.

This'll probably change tomorrow, but off the top of my head (or in my favorites playlist on my iPod), and in no order, and limiting to "one" song per artist (the multiples are based off my mood):

Strawberry Fields Forever- The Beatles
Good Vibrations- The Beach Boys
Thickfreakness OR Set You Free- The Black Keys
No Distance Left to Run OR Battery in Your Leg- Blur (wow, so many "B" bands...)
Paperhouse- Can
1983...(A Merman I Should Turn to Be) OR Voodoo Child (Slight Return)- The Jimi Hendrix Experience
In the Aeroplane Over the Sea- Neutral Milk Hotel (an inspiring song for me)
Reckoner- Radiohead
Gimme Shelter- The Rolling Stones
I Summon You OR The Ghost of You Lingers OR My Mathematical Mind- Spoon
Search and Destroy- Iggy and the Stooges
White Light/White Heat OR The Black Angel's Death Song by The Velvet Underground

I could really listen to any of these songs forever (or close to it). There are some unconventional choices in there (The Ghost of You Lingers, The Black Angel's Death Song, Paperhouse), some obvious stuff, and some more obscure stuff... but it represents my tastes pretty well.

If I could have one more, it would be Instant Karma! by John Lennon, but it didn't quite make it because of the fade-out... it's kinda weak compared to the energy of the rest of the song... he shoulda just ended it while screaming the chorus. oh well.

I actually don't know if these are my favorites, they're just the top 12 I could think of.

"The Ecstasy of Gold"* - Metallica
"Flagpole Sitta" - Harvey Danger
"Plush" - Stone Temple Pilots
"Man in the Box" - Alice in Chains
"Wake Up" - Rage Against the Machine
"These Walls" - Dream Theater
"Sympathy for the Devil" - The Rolling Stones
"Where is My Mind" - The Pixies
"The End is the Beginning is the End" - Smashing Pumpkins
"A Day in the Life" - The Beatles
"This Time Tomorrow" - The Kinks
"What is Life" - George Harrison

*It doesn't have any lyrics, it's just a cover of part of Ennio Morricone's score for The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.
