What comic(s) are you getting that you know you should stop?

Comic buyers are 'habit-formers'. We all get books that were once good, and we hang onto, hoping they'll 'return to grace'. There's even some 'reinforcing' data around - comics like ASM or FF or Captain America have all had runs where they were awful, but rebounded to greatness (..and back.. and forth..). With comics that haven't been around for 40+ years, though (i.e. I liked issues 1-7, 8-11 were bad and 12-15 are absolutely awful), it sends a dangerous message: "Give us a reason to buy it once, and we'll buy it forever."

We only have ourselves to blame (in a sense) for Ultimates 3 and Ultimatum. We have to stop buying poop so that Joey Q and Loeb can't keep saying 'the numbers speak for themselves.'

Its easy for me to start this thread because that quote only a few months ago made me drop books like Ultimatum, Ultimate FF, Ultimate X-Men, Ultimate Spider-Man, New Avengers, Mighty Avengers, etc, and replace them with Umbrella Academy, Incognito, Invincible, Walking Dead, etc. I'll need a new purge someday, but until recently, my pull list was growing 'inefficiently'.

So - (honesty time :) I've revealed a recent list in bold ) What comic are you still getting, knowing that you probably shouldn't?

Ms. Marvel just died in hers so it's the perfect jumping off point, though I heard Machine Man's coming back.

I don't see why/how anyone can just waste their money away on comics they hardly like just for the sake of completism. With the money you could be saving, you buy a game system, put down a monthly payment on a car, go get some drinks, take a girl out on a nice date. So many things you could buy with the $3/comic your wasting.

And again, it has the added effect of inflating sales, lending credence to 'the numbers speak for themselves' arguments.

(anything less than $4.50 on a date, and my wife calls me cheap. On the plus side, with Marvel, I'm almost there!)

so that's justification for buying something that completely sucks?

even if it's 4.50 for one day; you stop buying a sucky comic every week you save 18 bucks a month. you stop buying two sucky comics a week, it doubles. in twelve months time that's money you could easily be saving aside to buy your wife something worthwhile like an anniversary gift. Annivesary sex just got a little more sexy, you know? :D

Besides, you could always get TPB and save an extra 5 bucks, give or take. I mean honestly where's the enjoyment of buying a comic you hate? Imagine watching porn just because...where's the satisfaction, where's the smile?

No - I was being facetious... I absolutely agree with you. To buy a crappy comic is not only a waste of your own money, but also sends the message to the publisher to keep making the crappy comic that particular brand of crappy.... neither of which suit us in the long run!

Listen buddy, I've been called alot of things, but I will not tolerate being called doodoo.

sorry, i misunderstood you.

Clarity is not my strong point :)

Actually, this site is partly responsible for me paring down my own pull list to something respectable... That thread where you 'post your pulls' made me realize that I just wasn't enjoying some of the titles I was buying.

Whew - this site is so therapeutic!

I stopped reading all the comics I found mediocre or bad a while ago and I haven't read the Ultimate Universe in years so at the moment, there's none I can really think of...

Last ultimate comic i bought was Ultimates 2 #13(of 12). Last comic I bought was DC Universe #0. Last time i bought tpb's were about a month ago but before that, it had been a little over a year, whenever ennis' punisher volume 7 came out; somewhere around that point.

I'm in much the same boat. I still pick up Doktor Sleepless, The Boys, and Umbrella Academy, but right now that's about it. But I've been hitting the comic shop more after I discovered Book Nook. They've got used CD's and books and all that, so usually I'll go rooting around the book and music sections about once a month and grab up a few comics then.

same here but i use torpedo comics, I was gonna start a thread on it, but my shift ended and i had to log out. It was started by system of a down drummer, John Dolmayan who helped either sell or buy an original issue of action comics #1 which as we all know was the first appearance of superman. It fetched about 500 grand. That was about a month back. anyway his website has what is called the monolith where you get books/issues for 99 cents. you also got the vault which has issues starting from 2.00 bucks and up and then they have cgc branded comics which you can bid on or buy i believe. They sell all kinds of stuff too from shirts to busts.

That's awesome. That's incredibly awesome.
