I have not read many terry Pratchett books. I've read some but not alot. But anyway my brother said Hogfather is one the best ones.

In the sky guide it says

David Jason gets in the festive spirit in this lavish adaptation of the novel by celebrated author terry pratchett

coming in dec to sky in the uk.

From what I've heard of the book is about this movie could be very cool. I know i'm going to check it out when its on.

Edit : list of cast is here http://imdb.com/title/tt0765458/

Is this going to be like the animation because that was horrible. I mean they have full range and Nobby Nobs looks downright normal!

Discworld should be left as novels. Or possibly plays. I could see that working.

I live in southwestern Pennslyvania. I don't even know what the Sky Guide is. :?

Yeah. I doubt this'll be nearly as cool as the books. I'm a pessimist that way.

Sky is basically the European Cable.

I have Sky, but I don't think this was advertised anywhere. Perhaps later on.

its not advertised as such it's in the free magazine. right at the end under "On Sky Next month" its on a tiny little box with Hogfather on.

I'm not a fan of Terry Pratchett. Its just a bunch of cliched characters. You can tell whats going to happen in each of his books, and it just gets boring.

You, sir, do not see the little magic in every book.

Now, off with you.
No. Its cliched characters doing little cliched things whilst making little cliched jokes.

Its boringly boring, and only fun for an 8 year old who doesnt really understand what a cliche is.

No.

I'm not a big reader but the ones i've read have been well done. They might not be as well done as lord of the rings books BUT they are still well done. They are not "cliched" as you said they are just fun.

I'm entitled to my own opinion. I say I believe these are cliched, its what I think. And I do think they are. Unless you can give me a decent argument why not, then don't bother talking to me about the subject.

yes you are allowed your opinion. I could get in to argument saying things like

- the plot is unique

- well-formed characters

-you just can't help but relate to the inhabitants of this world he has created

But I can't be bothered as I don't was a pointless argument I made this topic for the fans to know the film is coming on tv. Not to debate if it is good or not.

to sum up : bugger it

Dec 17th and 18th = both parts to hogfather

they keep advertising it on tv and it looks really good.

I disagree. I'd love to read a kind of Tales of the Discworld comic series, as long as it's handled the right way.

I mean, it could still be very entertaining, even if it's self-contained (and therefore not bogged down by continuity lapses). As long as it's supervised by a dedicated creative team (with or without Pratchett himself) who are fans of the series, it could turn out alright.

Personally, I'd want to see it with an art style similar to Phil Jimenez (New X-Men, Invisibles) for the wizardry/Rincewind-oriented stuff, or Mark Buckingham (Fables) for the Watch-related stories.

Heck, I'd like to see a Patrician story that's a send up of Brit political comedies like Yes, Minister, crossed with The West Wing. Or a 24 parody, with the Watch equivalent of Jack Bauer. Stuff that would be a little more ridiculous, if it were done in novel format.

Just watched the first part of Hogfather, and I must say it was brilliantly done. It had the right feel, christmassy but very creepy, the humour was the right style, and was just damn awesome!! Can't wait for part 2 tomorrow!
