OH YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!

I've got an unreasonable enthusiasm for this character, despite the fact that he's not particularly original, simply because he was such an important figure in the early 90s, which is when I started reading and collecting superhero comics.

I trust Kirkman to come up with a sufficiently interesting reinterpretation of the villain.

Re: Ultimate Solicitations for February, 2007.

Ultimate Spider-Man - We'll see. I'm still a bit miffed about what's going on in Clone Saga, but I am a touch curious about Spider-Woman, and Peter's love life is always interesting. Since Spider-Woman seems to be a new recurring character, I'm starting to wonder if she really *is* Jessica Jones. I'm also wondering if maybe she really isn't a clone, but someone related to Peter or Richard Parker. . .

Ultimate Fantastic Four - . . .I can see this being decent or really bad. Diablo? Seems like an odd choice and the time traveling needs to be used more sparingly. I like God War so far, but I dunno, maybe Carey has something cool planned for the otherwise rather bland Diablo. LOVE Brooks, so that's a plus.

Ultimate X-men - So, either Xavier or Cyke bites it. I'm actually fine with either. A dead Xavier could put an interesting spin on things, and things could be done with a dead Cyke in the future (Sinister, anyone?). I AM psyched about Shadow King, though. I'd *assume* that Xavier'll still be around with SK showing up (Probably being Xavier's top villain/rival outside of Magento), but an Ultimate take could make him a villain for Jean/Phoenix. *shrugs* Should be an interesting read, and it also seems like Kirkman has big plans for the title.

Ultimate Vision - I'm liking what I'm hearing. I'm really hoping for Ultimate MODOK (As odd as that sounds), and a GLK module still aiming for Earth could all add up to an intense story.

And still no Ultimates 3! What the hell.

Re: Ultimate Solicitations for February, 2007.

USM: peters dumping kitty, peter's dumping kitty, HOORAY!

UV: have to maintain my complete ultimate marvel collection

UXM: cyclops is the one that bites it

UFF: never heard of diablo before, what's his story?

Not necessarily. In fact, Bendis has said Kitty will be around for awhile. Of course, with Kitty possibly leaving the X-Mansion, its possible she goes to Peter's High School and becomes the jealous friend-type deal.

UXM: cyclops is the one that bites it

Eh, I dunno about that. Xavier is certainly possible. Hell, wouldn't it be a kicker if Wolverine somehow found a way to die to prevent Cable from comming back in time (Assuming of course that Cable *cringe* is Wolverine)?

UFF: never heard of diablo before, what's his story?

He's kind of like an early Dr. Doom. He studied alchemy and found a way to become immortal by selling his soul to the Devil (Or Mephisto, as he's known in 616). He's an ok character, I just hope they don't delve into the Mephisto thing. If they EVER introduce him (Which I hope they don't. . .), it needs to be through Dr. Strange.

Re: Ultimate Solicitations for February, 2007.

Let's see...

UXM- Things are picking up. I always thought that Shadow King was underused in 616, can't wait to see what Kirkman does with him.

UV- No interest in this.

UFF- I'll check it out, but Carey is starting to lose me.

USM- I don't know why but I just have a bad feeling I won't like what's going to happen. I hope I'm wrong.

Re: Ultimate Solicitations for February, 2007.

UFF - Brooks? Disgusting. Diablo? Double disgusting. That's a lot of d's.
USM - Is ruining comics.
UV - Boring.
UXM - The most interesting of the four.

Re: Ultimate Solicitations for February, 2007.

Mark Brooks on UFF...wow. That's a major disappointment.

Re: Ultimate Solicitations for February, 2007.

Wow, a lot of Brooks hate. . .am I the only one who likes his art? :?

Probably not, but I can't stand it.

Re: Ultimate Solicitations for February, 2007.

i like mark brooks he's awesome, he would have been my top choice for bagley's replacement on USM, i loved his work on the USM annual's and the backstory in UXM #75

Re: Ultimate Solicitations for February, 2007.

Was it Brooks who did the art for the first Ultimates Annual?

If so, I'm not looking forward to him on UFF. I suppose following Hitch is a difficult job for anyone - particularly in a book which he has completely defined. That being said, Brooks (if it was Brooks on the Ultimates Annual) was extra disappointing.

Jae Lee is, for example, a 'dark' artist who excels with a shadowy story. Hitch is a realistic artist who needs a realistic story (or vice-versa, really). Greg Land needs a 'larger than life' epic story, who's words you can 'stare at', like his excellent, but 'snap-shotty' art. Ferry is an acquired taste, but is great for a kinetic, other-worldly story. Yu needs a gritty tale. While I don't love each of these artists, they have been pretty well matched up to story and situation (except the Yu pages in Ult X4, IMO)

So what does Brooks need? His art looks like 'stills' from a cartoon. No movement is suggested, and its too clean. I find it very sterile. Nothing against the quality - its more the style, which is quite subjective, so everyone may disagree with me (and often do :) )

IMO, Brooks is not a good fit for this - I can see why he'd seem like a good artist for USM, though - a simpler, cleaner style suits the book's 'talky without saying much' feel (and counter-balances a page filled with word bubbles).

All just my opinion, but my gut feeling is that this isn't a good fit. I'll honestly be happily open to being wrong (I get used to it!)

Re: Ultimate Solicitations for February, 2007.

No, that was Mike Deodato, Jr. AND HE WAS AWESOME.

HA - I was wrong in a way I wasn't even anticipating!! :)

Re: Ultimate Solicitations for February, 2007.

Yeah, like I said, not his best work. He's done way better. I think its not bad (that is, the rest of the cover).

Re: Ultimate Solicitations for February, 2007.

Where's Ultimate Power? It's been off the solicitation list since issue 3 from December...

Rest looks like a lot of fun. I'm especially liking where Carey has been taking the UFF. USM has been a little dicey. UXM has been great. Looking forward to Ult. Vision.
