Okay, the weirdest thing about this whole issue was that I picked up my comics and the guy at the store told me "There's another Ultimate book out," knowing I like Ultimate books, and getting me briefly excited before he finished, "Ultimate Civil War: Spider-Ham."

So, I bought it anyway. And it was all right.

It had a few good jokes, some Marvel in-jokes that I was happy to get after oh-so-many issues of What The!? going over my head as a kid.

But all of a sudden in the middle it just becomes a collection of lame pin-ups and it sucks for a while. But it ends up okay, and I demand (yes, demand!) that the lats page be included in any Marvel Zombies timeline. No reason Spider-Ham couldn't have existed on that world along with every other hero!

The Ultimate tag was just a gimmick, pure and simple.
It has no relation to the UU that I could discern.
When Wolver-Ham and Iron-Ham appear they have the 616 costumes, these costumes dont even exist in the UU so wtf?
Adding the Ultimate Tag to it was dumb, oh, and I havent been following it but it didnt have anything to do with Civil War either.
It seems to me MJS got an idea for this comic, Joe Quesada liked it and decided to bam the Ultimate and Civil War tags on it to maximise its output.

Poor move JQ, poor move.

btw /rant

I had a counter rant to this, but then I decided I couldn't be bothered.

Id be interested in hearing it if you change your mind.

I was just wondering; did you pick this up just because it had an "Ultimate" shoved on the front? You should have known the Ultimate Universe had nothing to do with Civil War or Spider-Ham...

I'm sure this has happened to a lot of people.

Um, since Bv2 won't tell you I guess I will. . .

It was just a joke.

It was never intended to pass itself off as either an Ultimate book or a Civil War crossover. The title is just a gag.

I still like the idea of Spider-Ham being one of the heroes on Zombie Earth though.

Yep, pretty much just picked it up because it had ultimate brand shoved on the front.
I do know that UU doesnt have anything to do with Civil War and Ive never heard of Spider-Ham before.
Im new to comics in general and UU is a starting point for me.

You're welcome. Comics are great, I hope you pick up more than the Ultimate titles eventually, there are a lot of good ones, most of them even better than what's being put out in the Ultimate Universe these days.

Some of it was really funny, but I think there was a little too much of it aimed at comic professionals and people in the 'biz'. That's kinda how some (not much) of it felt to me, and that was a little... patronising I think.

But it was quite funny - I bought it for the "merchandising act" thing. That was brilliant!
