If anybody wants to see pretty much the best serious vampire movie ever, go out and rent Shadow of the Vampire, with John Malkovich and Willem Dafoe. You will not be disappointed.

I commend you on your tastes, but I wouldn't say it's the BEST vampire movie. It's just damn good. It's REALLY interesting to watch in tandem with Murnau's original Nosferatu and Werner Herzog's Nosferatu the Vampyre. For my money, one of the best vampire movies (and my personal favorite take on the character) is Bram Stoker's Dracula. Gary Oldman is a beast of an actor.

You know what, this topic deserves its own thread. I'm gonna start one.

And here it is. Let's discuss great vampire movies people.

My favourite vampire movie "From Dusk till Dawn"

I had never seen it or heard of it till one day it was on tv I watched it and thought great crime/gangster film. Then the vampires happened and i was like Holy crap did not see that coming.

There has been few good vampire films that is my favourite is this but here is my top 5

1st From Dusk till Dawn
2nd Queen of the damned (I know alot of people say it's bad but I love Lestat in it he's cool)
3rd Bram Stoker's Dracula
4th Dracula 2000
5th Lost boys

Favourite thing of vampires = buffy and angel tv shows

Hmmm......ok. All 3 films listed above stand as like the best of the best in vampire films. There's really no topping them.

So what I list is just a list of decent vampire films that people should check out.

  • Lost Boys - Duh....IT'S ****ING LOST BOYS!
  • John Carpenter's Vampires - Nothing too stand out about it---but James Woods was excellent in it.
  • Dracula 2000 - The film itself was pure bollocks.....but the suprise revalation at the end was pretty damn good IMO

I'm not really big on vampire films, though. So I'm sure there are others who could point out some really great ones. But so help me SCIENCE---if someone mentions Underworld, I will personally begin a quest to have you renamed "Lil Gamma Kis 420" and then horribly mocked into UC history and drive you from this site!

BLADE TRINITY

...jk. but the first one was pretty good. A little over the top, but entertaining.

[/LIST]

That's the only reason It's my top 5. Without the revelation the film would be crap. So yeah I 100% agree with you on this

Hrmm...

I'm glad Doom mentioned Lost Boys. Its easily on of the best.

Has anyone here seen Fright Night? A guy thinks his new next door neighbor is a vampire and enlists local late night TV host Roddy McDowall to help him fight it. Even though no one believes him. Its a lot of fun.

I've seen Fright Night......and it's sequel. Not the best....but still pretty fun.

Best Vampire movie EVER: The Last Man on Earth with Vincent Price, based on the greatest Vampire story ever: I Am Legend. Which is being remade with Will Smith (the one and only time in my life I have been excited for a Will Smith movie!). Omega Man, also based on the same tale, sucked and direvated too much from Matheson's original story.

And FYI: From Dusk til Dawn is not a vampire movie. It's a Movie with Vampires in it. There is a big semantics difference in the 2.

Fright Night is based off a short story by my favorite writing team of the 80's/90's - John Skipp & Craig Spector. If you have not read "The Light At the End" do so. Imagine, if you will, a group of D&D geeks that stumble upon an actual Vampire. Skipp & Spector's best works are "The Bridge" or "The Scream." They are out of print and in demand.

Honorable mentions:

Bram Stoker's Dracula, Lost Boys, Interview with the Vampire. Oh - duh - can't forget Shadow of the Vampire, either. That was great. I happen to have the limited edition comic adaption given out to people who saw a sneek peak. Like me.

Bloody Awful:

Queen of the Damned (made my stomach turn it derivated from the book's plot so much)

I can't count the Blade movies as they are really Superhero movies.

Yeah, I didn't mention any of teh sequals for a reason. Too campy.

oohh. Thats a good one. I had a few semantics problems with it but overall it was very good.

To me a film with a vampire in it = a vampire film unless its like one scene thats just a parody

SSJMole, you lose all your points by putting "Queen of the Damned" on that list.

Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles are wonderful, and that movie pisses all over the series.

  I know but I did add
(I know alot of people say it's bad but I love Lestat in it he's cool)
but alot of movies based on books pisses over the original (my problem with LOTR but lets not go there) I just love the Lestat in QOTD so much better or cooler IMO to Tom cruises version

That is no excuse... Sure Stuart Townsend played up the dark mysterious and sexy aspect, but Cruise was the far better actor, and stayed much closer to what Lestat was supposed to be in the first book.

My biggest problem with Interview with a Vampire was Antonio Banderas as Armand. Armand is supposed to be eternally 15 or 16... It adds so much to the character to have him be so old and so lost and yet so young.

The Vampire Lestat is by far the best book in the series... But I've read and loved them all... Even the delightfully heretical Memnoch the Devil, where Lestat literally drinks the blood of Christ.

Yeah I've read them all too. I like 99% of them (I found little bits boring) see the quy in QOTD imo played Lestat perfectly . Yes the film sucked but his performance makes me like it.

Where as he may not be the Lestat in most books he the Lestat that Louis described when told from his perspective and I saw it as the writer may of wanted Lestat one way but the way he seen by Louis who is closest to him would be the real him. that may not make sense to most but that's how I feel about it

I wont give you him playing lestat perfectly because he's a **** actor... He looked the part, that's about it, and he didnt even do that well since Lestat is supposed to be eerily blonde.

I don't really watch vampire movies the only one I've seen and like was Blade (THE FIRST ONE ONLY! I really hate the sequels) I really loved the feel and the style of that one. It was really well done and its a real shame the sequels lost that magic.

 You make me sick.

Bram Stoker's and Lost Boys were good though.

Interview with a Vampire

Salem's Lot
Underworld and Underworld: Revolution
Blade I and II
My Best Friend is a Vampire
John Carpenter's Vampires
Dracula: Dead and Loving It

Coming Soon:

I Am Legend

As was mentioned in the first post, I think Shadow of the Vampire is probably the best vampire movie ever(actually, I think it's one of the best movies ever period), but others worth mentioning are:

- Blade(first one ONLY)
- Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein
- Bram Stoker's Dracula
- 'Salem's Lot(mini-series)

I'm ashamed to say I haven't seen Lost Boys, but I guarantee you it's near the top of my "Movies I have to see" list.

Still, nothing can near the majesty that is Shadow of the Vampire.
