How do you organize your comics?

So, I just got back into comic collecting I guess about a year ago, and I hadn't read comics since I was a little kid. Now I have a bunch of issues floating around, and my current form of book keeping just has them in giant, unorganized stacks atop my closet shelves. But, I'm organizing things, and I need that space for other things.

So, how do you guys store your comics?

I have two long boxes for stuff that I want to keep in good condition. Otherwise they're all just in Diamond boxes. And those are piling up.

Diamond boxes? Whazzat?

I tried storing them in milk crates, but the stack tends to slide,, and crumple up the issues.

Just the boxes from Diamond Distribution, the company that ships comics to your LCS every week. Nothing special, just a cardboard box.

I keep mine in a long box, it's only half full.
I also have a question: are comics gotten in the mail damaged in any way? My brother gets Lego mag in the mail, and it seems fine, even though it is made out of flimsier material.

I don't actually keep or collect comics. I only collect a few trades. And those are organized alphabetically by book.

So I have 2 rows of Ultimate TPBs. Then on the next row I have all my Marvel MAX books followed by a few random minis.

I use the Marvel Select Ultimate Characters as pretty bookends.

hrm.... and what's a long box?

I got mine from a shop. Basically, it's a box, a little more than the heigth and width of a comic. I'm not sure how many can fit in it total, but min is a little more than half full. I also keep all my comics in plastic sleeves with cardboard backings.
All my comics are like this. Basically, I only seriously got into them last year, and I only buy those I like, i.e. Spider-Man, X-Men, every Ultimate title, except the minis and UFF, which I read in TPB form.

i put mine in clear bags and stack them on a book shelf split up in to series then in order e.g ultimate spider vol 1 then vol 2 ect.... but after usm i have ultimates vol 1 , uxm vol 1 then vol 2

i keep them on two of my three rows on my book shelf, i have all my Ultimate stuff in chronological order (thnx to DiB and Vintsukka's timeline's!) on the shelf first, with all my Civil War stuff behind it, followed by Annihilation, followed by all the unfinished non-Ultimate/CW/Annihilation books/arc's, followed by all my completed arc's kept in the order of which the arc finished (i know it sound's kinda confusing but this system works really well for me)

I recently ran out of room so i picked up one of those Long-box things, those things hold alot! It took up almost all of my completed non-Ultimate/CW/Annihilation books/arc's. (from early 2005's Toxin mini all the way too the recently ended Eternals)

The way I organize mine is to double-bag them. Saves me space and money. I keep them in large comic boxes, organized by series. I keep all limited series together in one section, and any one-shots or comics I just got for an arc (i.e. the Wild Kingdom crossover with Blank Panther) under Micellaneous.

I have a bunch of stacks of issues sitting across my desk. When one of the stacks starts to get too big, I separate it into smaller stacks, and put the issues in shoeboxes, which I put in my closet.

I also have a really big bookshelf with TPBs and Hardcovers on it.

I have all issues bagged and boarded (I actuallly started double-bagging after Ice said he did it - it does save a surprising amount of space). I have about 6 short boxes and 1 long box.

TPBs and HCs are kept in 2 bookshelves.

I've been double bagging for over a decade now because I just can't afford bags n' boards. For years most of the comic stores I go to charge about 20 cents to single bag n' board one comic (at the current exchange rate, in the 1990s that would have been about 50 cents)

Fortunately, the store I currently patronize gives bags n' boards free. So now I'm in the process of continuing to double bag n' board and using the extra unused ones on old comics that remain unbagged because I didn't value them enough to bother (but now want to for neatness sake).

Lets see...first I separate everything into "old" (anything before the ultimate line started) and "new". then I organize by title and the old goes into its own few diamond boxes, and the new in theirs. In total I have probably 8 long boxes worth.I've tried ordering them chronologically, but it was too much of a pain. Oh, and of course everything is bagged and boarded.

As with my books, my comics are carefully and meticulously arranged in stacks of varying height and tidyness spread throughout my household, carefully unprotected and all cares made not to organize in any consistent fashion. I don't collect, I buy to read.
